[name_m]Just[/name_m] looking for some opinions on these names. Nicknames in quotations. Some of the nns (like [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] nn [name_m]Thad[/name_m], etc) I think are unavoidable, and some (like [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] nn [name_f]Missy[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_f]Posey[/name_f]) would just be pet names, I’d still probably use their full names most of the time. If you don’t like the nns, they aren’t set in stone. I’m looking more for opinions on the actual name.
Girl:
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] “[name_f]Missy[/name_f]”
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] “[name_f]Cassie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f]”
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] “[name_f]Miri[/name_f], [name_f]Mim[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f]”
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] “[name_u]Percy[/name_u], Sephy, [name_f]Posey[/name_f]”
Boys:
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m] (I pronounce it kind of like ma-thy-us)
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m] “[name_u]Percy[/name_u]” (PJO anyone?)
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] “[name_m]Thad[/name_m]”
Also, I have one more question, what siblings would you use with [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]? I just have a hard time pairing it in a sibset.
Thanks for your help!
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - A strong name. Usable, but it would need a softer middle to balance it out
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] - Very pretty!
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - Not a personal fan, but it’s not a bad choice
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - Great classic name. Only concern would be popularity
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - To me, it’s a little dated but the nn [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] would be so cute for when she’s young
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] - I like it! Ages well and has some spunk
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] - Reminds me of [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], but better
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] it! Very handsome and fresh
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m] - It might be a little much as a first, but nn [name_u]Percy[/name_u] is great
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]-sounding name. Would also work well as a strong middle
Sibling for [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - I think [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] work best with it
Girl:
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] “[name_f]Missy[/name_f]”: Very cute, nickname would suit her when she’s little. I prefer [name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] “[name_f]Cassie[/name_f]”: [name_u]Love[/name_u]! [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] would work with any age!
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]: Not my style, I prefer [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f]”: Unexpected as a first! Definite favorite, other nicknames could be [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], or [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] “[name_f]Miri[/name_f], [name_f]Mim[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f]”: Again, not my style. I love [name_f]Mira[/name_f], though
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]: I love it pronounced “Nine-a” instead of “Neen-a”
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] “[name_u]Percy[/name_u], Sephy, [name_f]Posey[/name_f]”: Very cute twist of [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. I only like [name_u]Percy[/name_u] on a boy, but I love [name_f]Posey[/name_f]
Boys:
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]: Cute, nn [name_u]Mattie[/name_u]?
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m] “[name_u]Percy[/name_u]”: [name_u]Love[/name_u] love love! (And the books ain’t so bad, either! ;))
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] “[name_m]Thad[/name_m]”: Ehh, maybe for a middle
For [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], I’d pair [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f]
Good luck!
@bee49- with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], popularity is my concern. The supposed dated-ness of [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is my concern too, but I think among the Jaylas and Kaitlyns, [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] would be fresh. Thanks for all the positive comments!
@silvercandles-I actually know tons of [name_f]Athena[/name_f]'s (I’m Greek) and it sounds really weird in Greek (it is pronounced more like ah-THEEN-nah); but I haven’t met any Artemises. I pronounce [name_f]Nina[/name_f] Neen-uh, but Nine-uh is cool too. Thanks for all help!
Anyone else! Comments would be appreciated!
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - Hate [name_f]Missy[/name_f] (long story) but I love the name by itself. Have met Athenas bbut no [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. A strong, beautiful choice!
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] - This name has been going back and forth from my list. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] with it, but there are so many that she’d be able to choose from if she wanted when she was older
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - Nms, and doesn’t exactly fit with your others
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] - [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t seen this in the fn spot for a while. Maybe too long? It is popular, but nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] are less common
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - One of my grandmothers names (in case you were curious, sibset was [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], and [name_f]Etta[/name_f]/[name_f]Yetta[/name_f]). I think it’d be fresh with some of the names used today. If you’re not sure can I suggest [name_f]Moirah[/name_f] or [name_f]Mariska[/name_f].
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] - I watch too much Project Runway because all I can think of is [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_u]Garcia[/name_u] making fun of my clothes
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] - I like it for the same reason as [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m] - I’ve only heard it pronounced mah-[name_u]TAY[/name_u]-hus but I think it’s a great name
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m] - [name_f]My[/name_f] fave of your boys!
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] - I don’t like it as a first. Prefer [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
From your list, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] works with [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. I’d suggest for boys [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Issac[/name_m], [name_m]Ephrain[/name_m], [name_u]Ellison[/name_u], [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_m]Donovan[/name_m], and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. Girls names I like with [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] are [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Begonia[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], and [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
Looking at your list, mythology fan?
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]: a bit strong, but it has a statement
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] “[name_f]Cassie[/name_f]”: I’m a bit too bias to give my opinion on this one…
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]: Has an “Egyptian” feel, I like.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f]”: Classic, I like it. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is one of my favorite nicknames as well.
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] “[name_f]Miri[/name_f], [name_f]Mim[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f]”: Again, bit too bias.
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]: Very sweet name (I associate it with my adorable niece)
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] “[name_u]Percy[/name_u], Sephy, [name_f]Posey[/name_f]”: Bit too strong, but would fit for an official name on paper. Nicknames are cute.
Boys:
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m] (I pronounce it kind of like ma-thy-us) I’ve never actually met anyone with this name, so not too sure on its pronunciation.
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m] “[name_u]Percy[/name_u]” (PJO anyone?): YES, [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name. Would be my favorite if it weren’t for the name below it…
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] “[name_m]Thad[/name_m]”: YES. It has such a masculine tone to it.
As for sibling names for [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] and any of the mythology girl names are fine. [name_f]Nina[/name_f] as well.
@anniexchocolate- yeah, I’m a bit of a greek myth lover. But my family is Greek, so it gives me a bit of an excuse to actually be able to use the “out there” Greek names (my mom actually loves [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], and she hates most names).
Thanks for all your help berries! I’m going to add [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_m]Matthias[/name_m], and [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] for now. I may come back to the others later (they will stay on the maybe list). In the past I had [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_m]Perseus[/name_m], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] on my list before, so maybe they’ll all come back eventually. Thanks again!
