Comments and suggestions would be very helpful. these are not for a baby, I am just a name fanatic.
Girls Names:
[name]Violet[/name] - I like this because it is unique, but people will still know how to pronounce it (Vye-Let)
[name]Ava[/name] - I really like this name and think it is so simple and sweet, but apparently so do 10 000 other moms. But I still like it.
[name]Naomi[/name] - I just like the sound and simplicity of this name. Also it is not that common and has some cute nicknames.
[name]Mya[/name] - This is pronounced My-Uh. I do not like the pronunciation Me-Uh, or the spelling [name]Mia[/name] because it is so common and can be pronounced either way.
Note* Since the name [name]Ava[/name] is so popular, I have been looking at alternatives and variations of this name. So far the ones I like are: Avelyn/[name]Avalyn[/name] (pronounced Ay-Vuh-[name]Lyn[/name])
Avalee/leigh/ly/ley/li/lie (there are so many possible spellings!)
Please tell me what you think! Thanks!!!
[name]Violet[/name] - Unfortunately, the popularity of this name is rising fast and might be staggering in just a few years. You might like [name]Violetta[/name] (vee-oh-leh-ta), [name]Vivian[/name], or especially [name]Iris[/name] as replacements.
[name]Ava[/name] - Very pretty, but soooo popular. You might also like [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adine[/name], [name]Azalea[/name], [name]Aster[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Ada[/name], [name]Alia[/name], or [name]Avis[/name].
[name]Naomi[/name] - Definitely my fav of your list. Beautiful!
[name]Mya[/name] - I like [name]Amaya[/name] nn [name]Maya[/name] better. That might also pose fewer pronounciation problems.
[name]Do[/name] you like:
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
I also made suggestions in my comments on the names.
Good luck!
[name]EDIT[/name]: I like [name]Avalon[/name] as a replacement for [name]Ava[/name]–just a warning: many other people do as well. The others ones seem a little tryndee and make up, reminiscent of [name]Aydin[/name] and [name]Kaylee[/name].
[name]Violet[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the name [name]Violet[/name]!
[name]Ava[/name] - Also love it!
[name]Naomi[/name] - It’s OK. It is unusual though, so that’s good.
[name]Mya[/name] - I like [name]Mya[/name] and [name]Mia[/name].
[name]Violet[/name] - love [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Ava[/name] - what about Aven?
[name]Naomi[/name] - my favorite of your list!!!
[name]Mya[/name] - not my favorite
Substitues for [name]Ava[/name]:
[name]Avalon[/name]
[name]Aspen[/name]
Arlow
[name]Aria[/name]
[name]Adella[/name]
do you like any of those? The other’s are cute too!
[name]Violet[/name] - Very pretty. [name]Violet[/name]'s a lovely name. (:
[name]Ava[/name] - I dislike [name]Ava[/name] because of it’s popularity, sadly. But, I love [name]Ada[/name]! (: And it’s so close to [name]Ava[/name], for those who favor it.
[name]Naomi[/name] - It is quite beautiful! (:
[name]Mya[/name] – Sorry, but I am not a fan.
Aven is my new favorite celeb baby name (and I do not watch Gossip Girl). It is SO pretty and different. [name]Ava[/name] is gorgeous but popular.
What about other 40;s movie stars? [name]Lana[/name]? [name]Grier[/name]?
[name]Naomi[/name] - classic and feminine. Never trendy.
JMO!
[name]Violet[/name] is lovely, but has never really been one of my faves.
I love [name]Ava[/name], as I am a huge [name]Ava[/name] [name]Gardner[/name] fan. Have you considered hyphenating [name]Ava[/name], since it’s so short, to give it character? (I.E. [name]Ava[/name]-[name]Belle[/name], [name]Ava[/name]-[name]Rose[/name], [name]Ava[/name]-[name]Michelle[/name])
[name]Naomi[/name] was my dad’s first pick for my sister, but my mom’s choice won out and she was named [name]Abigail[/name]. I prefer [name]Noemi[/name], but have no real beefs with this name.
[name]Mya[/name] is my favorite of your choices, and I really don’t forsee you having many problems with pronunciation, as [name]Mia[/name] is popular in it’s own right.
[name]Violet[/name] is very pretty! seems to be the least common of the flower names too…for now anyways (:
I love [name]Ava[/name]. [name]Avalon[/name] nn [name]Ava[/name] is lovely to steer from over-popularity. I also like [name]Aveline[/name] nn [name]Avie[/name].
[name]Violet[/name]- pretty, vintage choice but rising in popularity in recent years which may bother you.
[name]Ava[/name]- nice, but v popular
[name]Naomi[/name]- pleasant Biblical name
[name]Mya[/name]- lovely name but dislike this spelling. I think it is made up. The spellings I am familiar with are [name]Maya[/name] and [name]Maia[/name], both of which have been around for 1000s of years.
I came across this thread because I thought I invented the name [name]Avalyn[/name] (silly me!). I’m normally totally against made-up names, but I really like this. I don’t like [name]Evelyn[/name], but I love [name]Ava[/name], and [name]Avalyn[/name] sounds so sweet and country-ish to me. I don’t know that I like the way it looks, though. Avalie is cute, too… Reminds me of [name]Coralie[/name], which I love…
I’d say either of those [name]Ah[/name]-vuh-lyn. That’s because I’d automatically say [name]Ava[/name] as [name]Ah[/name]-vuh, not Ay-vuh. It doesn’t follow English pronunciation rules - but I still assume every other A name will. Particularly those two, which look close to [name]Avalon[/name].
“[name]Mya[/name] - This is pronounced My-Uh. I do not like the pronunciation Me-Uh, or the spelling [name]Mia[/name] because it is so common and can be pronounced either way.”
I’ve seen the spelling [name]Mya[/name] before; I wouldn’t call it made-up, at least not anymore. I’ve also only ever heard [name]Mia[/name] said with an E.
Incidentally, I’d also say [name]Mira[/name] as [name]Myra[/name], but apparently it’s [name]Meera[/name]. Same for [name]Mila[/name].
