I’m not even close to have children of my own but I keep having the same dream about four little girls, quads aged around 3 years old. They’re my children in the dream and their names are; [name]Phaedra[/name], [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Pandora[/name] & [name]Paloma[/name]. [name]Pandora[/name] is my joint favourite girls name right now, and [name]Phaedra[/name] was on my list a while ago. I posted recently about [name]Pandora[/name] and it actually got quite positive reviews, which surprised me. So basically all I’d like is opinions on [name]Phaedra[/name], [name]Persephone[/name] and [name]Paloma[/name], what do you think of those?
[name]Phaedra[/name] is prounounced [name]Faye[/name]-druh, and I think Phae is pretty cute nickname.
Would [name]Persephone[/name] be pronounced wrong? I remember reading the myth of [name]Persephone[/name] and the Pomegranate seeds and reading the name as [name]Per[/name]-see-phone and not [name]Per[/name]-sef-oh-nee. Can you think of any nicknames for this one? I can only think of Sephy/Seffy but that’s already in use in the family.
As for [name]Paloma[/name], I love that is has the meaning of ‘[name]Dove[/name]’ and the potential nickname Lo/[name]Lola[/name], which I think is cute.
So you can tell me your order of preference, or which ones you love, like or strongly dislike. Please be as honest as you like, I can handle it!
I absolutely do not like [name]Phaedra[/name] or [name]Pandora[/name], sorry. [name]Phaedra[/name] reminds me of [name]Deirdre[/name] which for some reason always struck me as a ghetto name. Phae is cute though. [name]Pandora[/name], it’s just [name]Pandora[/name]'s box for me. All the possible nicknames are ugly, (Panda, Pandy, [name]Dora[/name], [name]Dory[/name]) However I do like [name]Persephone[/name], which has a romantic feel to it, with the mythology a pretty story for the name. And as for [name]Paloma[/name], I [name]LOVE[/name] IT. It’s so beautiful, unique, adorable, ages well, has a perfect meaning and I like the nickname [name]Lola[/name]. It. Is. Wonderful. Not too fond of the sound of [name]Paloma[/name], nor do I like that all the names have a hard P sound when [name]Phaedra[/name] doesn’t.
I like [name]Phaedra[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name] most, nn Phae and [name]Posy[/name]. [name]Perry[/name], [name]Percy[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] could all be nicknames for [name]Persephone[/name], but [name]Posy[/name] has more charm than all of them
For 4 P names, I would probably end up with greek set [name]Persephone[/name] ([name]Posy[/name]), Polymnia ([name]Polly[/name]), Penthesileia ([name]Penny[/name]) and Praxithea ([name]Pixie[/name]) or more quirky set Pennyroyal ([name]Penny[/name]), [name]Primrose[/name] (Prim), Pomeline ([name]Pim[/name]) and [name]Peridot[/name] ([name]Poe[/name])
[name]Pandora[/name] - my favorite. I love your [name]Pandora[/name] combo, but I really hope it doesn’t win out against [name]Arabella[/name], haha.
[name]Paloma[/name] - my second favorite. Too much exoticness for me but I do love it, its meaning, and the nn [name]Lola[/name]!
[name]Persephone[/name] - I like this in theory (especially for the nn Sephie), but it seems too unusable to me in reality.
[name]Phaedra[/name] - I have never seen the appeal in this, sorry. It just seems very harsh and ugly to me. I wish I could like it but I just can’t.
Would you actually use more than one name with the same first letter? I always remember you saying you didn’t wouldn’t add [name]Avery[/name] as a FN because you loved [name]Asher[/name] so much and so on earlier…
I’m trying to come round to that idea! I think it has a lot more to do with the style of the name too, so I couldn’t see [name]Asher[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] together because they seem very different in terms of style. Whereas, I think these 4 girls names fit together pretty well. I guess I kind of need to come round to the idea, I mean I have [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Esther[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Micah[/name], [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] all on my list so I do thin I do lean towards names beginning with particular letters!
[name]Pandora[/name] is definitely my favourite of the four and I actually don’t think people could put me off this one! [name]Paloma[/name] would probably be runner up and I’d love to find a place for it on my list. [name]Phaedra[/name] seems so fresh and spunky to me, but doesn’t fit as well as the previous two names. I think [name]Persephone[/name] is adorable but way too close to our little Seffy’s name so I wouldn’t use it.

If I had to choose one I would have a hard time between [name]Persephone[/name] and [name]Phaedra[/name], because both are rare and gorgeous, alluring and mysterious. I think I’d end up going with [name]Phaedra[/name], though, for her nickname.
I don’t think [name]Persephone[/name] would be read wrong for most people, I read it Purse-phone the first time I saw it but it’s becomming more widely known, and no well educated teacher would mess it up during roll call.
I honestly don’t like [name]Pandora[/name] because of the meaning. It sounds pretty enough, but that myth comes up a lot in the school room and I feel like it could lead to teasing.
Phae and [name]Lola[/name] are both cute nicknames! But [name]Phaedra[/name] is quite odd over all, there’s just something I don’t like about it. Maybe the spelling…
I really like [name]Phaedra[/name], but because of the [name]Jacqueline[/name] [name]Carey[/name] series (Kushiel’s [name]Dart[/name]/Chosen/Avatar/Scion/[name]Justice[/name]/[name]Mercy[/name]), I prefer the Phedre spelling. (Phedre was the heroine of the first three novels in the series, and a big part of the last three.)
I also really like [name]Pandora[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name]. I think all three are lovely names, and the one that stands out to me is [name]Paloma[/name], mainly because the other three are Greek and [name]Paloma[/name] is Spanish. I think Panda is a cute nn, as is [name]Dorie[/name]. For [name]Persephone[/name], I could see [name]Peri[/name], [name]Posey[/name], or [name]Sophie[/name] as nice nn.

[name]Phaedra[/name] - I actually met a little [name]Phaedra[/name] the other day, she was a real gem! I like it because it is rare and unique without being to weird.
[name]Pandora[/name] - We have a local company that makes our dance shoes with this name so I have a hard time picturing it on a child instead of the side of a building… I don’t have anything against the name, it is just my associations.
[name]Persephone[/name] - I like it, its NMS but not bad by any means.
