[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - honors my maternal grandmother, [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and my paternal aunt, [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] who was the matriarch of my Dad’s family after his parents passed and was a huge influence on his life. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is also my maternal aunt’s middle name, and my second middle! [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is too fusty for me, so I looked for more modern alternatives and found [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. I love the nickname [name_f]Meg[/name_f] as well (though I don’t know whether I would use it, because I have a second cousin called [name_f]Megan[/name_f]).
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] - honors my Mum whose middle name is [name_f]Ann[/name_f], and my paternal aunt [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] who took over as matriarch after [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] passed. She is still alive, and is so strong despite all she has had to deal with - she’s an inspiration.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is my name, and also honors my paternal grandmother whom I’m named after; her name was [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
I feel this combo is full of meaning and I love the names individually, but I’m not sure how well they flow together and if the combo is too long. I have two middle names and it’s never been too much of a problem, but it does make for a long name! So, what do you think?
I like it! I find the mix of [name_m]French[/name_m] and [name_m]German[/name_m] quite intriguing. Since these names hold some significance for you, don’t worry about flow or length so much. Family ties trump flow every time!
I think it’s a beautiful combination, and I also like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], if you feel that flows better?
I love the family ties! As @mischa said, family ties do trump flow. I think the name flows fairly well, though, and it’s very pretty for a little girl. I might switch [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but it’s not necessary.
Thanks guys! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like the name. Sounding it out a few times, I agree that [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] may flow a little better.
Bonus question - are there any other nicknames for [name_f]Margot[/name_f] besides [name_f]Meg[/name_f]? I know that it is short enough to work in full, but I do like nicknames, at least when they’re little. I like nicknames to be fairly intuitive, not too much of a stretch! x
@britkarma - my last name starts with R, so no problems there. Of course, I’m nowhere near having kids yet, and I may have a different surname by then (if I get married), so I’d have to meet that problem if/when it comes. As of now, I’m just playing around. Thanks for the comment though! x
I really like it. Like a previous poster said I might switch it to [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f]. In the novel Gone Girl they use Go as a nickname for [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. It was kind of confusing reading it because you didn’t know if he was saying “go” or talking about Go ([name_f]Margot[/name_f]); but, I don’t think it would have the same issues when spoken in everyday life.
It’s very pretty, but I personally would switch [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] because to me the S sounds run together. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is just as lovely though.
