What do you think of the name [name_u]Marian[/name_u]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is too old fashioned/frumpy sounding? If I decided to use the name, it would be after Maid [name_u]Marian[/name_u] in [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood. I’ve loved the story of [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood ever since I was a little girl. Fun fact: [name_f]My[/name_f] parents first date was going to see “[name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood: [name_m]Prince[/name_m] of Thieves”. The title song “[name_f]Do[/name_f] it for You” by [name_m]Bryan[/name_m] [name_m]Adams[/name_m] was played at their wedding. That is also the song that my Daddy walked me down the aisle to four years ago
I don’t think it’s too old fashioned or grumpy at all! I also associate it with Maid [name_u]Marion[/name_u]
I don’t think it’s old fashioned at all either, I guess I would call it timeless. I think it’s quite lovely and has tons of charm.
I don’t think [name_u]Marian[/name_u] is overly old-fashioned - it doesn’t make me think of little, old ladies or anything. [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood was actually my first association when I read the title of your post. [name_u]Marian[/name_u] is a bit filly to me, very feminine and “pretty”. You clearly have a massive connection to the name, so I feel it would be super special for you to use it.
I think [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is cool! It doesn’t sound old fashioned to me and in my opinion could even be used for a boy. I love all the associations with your parents and you, it makes it have more of an importance as a name for you. Maid [name_u]Marion[/name_u]’s not a bad name sake either even though the only [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood stuff I’ve seen is [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood: Men in Tights and the Disney version. Overall I like it!
I like it too. I think [name_u]Marion[/name_u] Cotillard has made it seem stylish and elegant and I like the Maid [name_u]Marion[/name_u] connection for a little girl.
I prefer the [name_u]Marion[/name_u] spelling but I don’t think it’s too old-fashioned at all. It’s lovely and classic.
@leafygreens my favorite [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood is the 1930’s film starting [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. It’s AMAZING. Second would be Disney’s [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood and third is [name_m]Prince[/name_m] of Thieves. Men in Tights was not my cup of tea, but it did make me laugh a few times lol
I like both [name_u]Marian[/name_u] and [name_u]Marion[/name_u]! I’d love to see it used more.
Good luck
I like it but I definitely prefer the [name_u]Marion[/name_u] spelling
Marian is beautiful! I don’t think it’s too old fashioned at all, and your meaning behind it is so lovely. I think the [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood association is wonderful, as well.
I love it! I also love the sweet story that accompanies it because it will be fun to tell your daughter about. She will be able to understand the reason from her name at such a young age. I actually disagree with pp on spelling - the [name_u]Marian[/name_u] spelling seems more feminine to me.
Marian is lovely! And Maid [name_u]Marian[/name_u] is a beautiful character. Plus, all of the special feels associated w/your family & [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood. [name_u]Marian[/name_u] seems like the perfect choice.
I like [name_u]Marian[/name_u]. [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] feels more dated than [name_u]Marian[/name_u]/Marion.
Perhaps you would also like [name_f]Mariam[/name_f]/Miriam.
I agree. [name_u]Marian[/name_u] has never been quite popular enough to stick it to one particular era or decade, so it doesn’t really feel dated. If anything, it feels slightly vintage, but 100% wearable today. It would be the perfect uncommon-but-familiar choice. I think it’s charming! Plus, it seems like such a meaningful choice for you, and I always love that in names.
I definitely think it’s still useable! Not my cuppa tea, but I can definitely see it on a little girl.
I know a [name_u]Marian[/name_u]! She goes by [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], if you like that nn.
I prefer the [name_u]Marion[/name_u] spelling – feels more streamlined, wearable, timeless. Also reminds me of delicious marionberries!
Marian feels meaningful and lovely
Marian is a lovely name and I feel it absolutely can work! Plus it has the bonus of sweet nicknames such ‘[name_u]Marie[/name_u]’, ‘[name_f]Mara[/name_f]’ etc!
