What do you think of this name?

Hi berries!

I recently came across the name [name_f]Aster[/name_f] and I’m starting to really love it. It’s also a flower name, which appeals to me, and it feels feminine without being frilly or girly, which is my favorite. I also think it complements my other favorites ([name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]) well.

So, what are your thoughts? TIA!

I like flower names! [name_f]Aster[/name_f] is nice, though I think I prefer [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. [name_f]Aster[/name_f] could have the nn Asteroid! Which is very fun. I think it’s too out there for me.

I really like it! Another beautiful variation is [name_f]Astra[/name_f]

I don’t love it, personally. Partially due to a personal association with the name, but mainly because of the “As-” sound at the beginning. It’s the same reason I can’t get behind [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], as much as I like it in theory, or [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] either.

Maybe you would like [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], or [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] for non-frilly flower names.

Wow [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] are so frilly feeling to me.

That’s interesting! I always think of frilly names as being longer and more dramatic- like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]. For flower names, things like [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] feel frillier.

I like [name_f]Aster[/name_f]. I think it could be quite a unisex name actually if that doesn’t bother you.

Aster is my youngest’s middle name  It’s her birth flower but I love that it’s quite unusual too.

Aster is starry and spunky

Wouldn’t bother me at all! I definitely prefer it on a girl but it has the same charm as [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] or [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] for sure.

I associate frilly and girly with longer names also, though [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] does feel very frilly to me. That’s a bit of a trademark for [name_u]French[/name_u] names though I think, but I do like some ([name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]).

I actually love [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! I especially like [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. Has some of the same appeal as [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but is a little more substantial and I love that it means rainbow. :rainbow:

Totally respect that [name_f]Aster[/name_f] is not your style though. Names aren’t very unique if we all love the same ones

True that would be a fun outer space theme! A nice way to make a more unique name more approachable, though Asteroid is definitely too out there for me as well.

@rosepip @futuremama @shells15 @greensparkles @bellerose @Greyblue thank you all for the [name_f]Aster[/name_f] love! I think it’s quite starry and spunky too. I can also see how it’d make a stunning middle! [name_f]Astra[/name_f] is beautiful too.

I really like [name_f]Aster[/name_f]. I can see why some have reservations about the As- beginning but I think the names similarity to [name_f]Esther[/name_f]/ [name_f]Hester[/name_f] offset that a bit. Plus that’s really just low hanging fruit from a teasing standpoint and in my experience working with children those are that the kinds of jabs that don’t last or carry. Children are, for better or worse, more creative than that. Nevermind that more and more names just don’t seem to be a point of bullying among children any longer. There are other things they’re more likely to target.
