What do you think of this

Hello. I encountered a baby boy named Homie. I know it’s slang for friend, buddy etc.
But I also know there are many word baby names out there that gets accepted these days.

I guess it’s cute on a baby, but could it suit an adult?

I’m foreign and not so sure what I think of this. So I came here and wondered what you thought?

I imagine it’s more likely meant to be a shortened form of [name_m]Homer[/name_m] than a word name based on the slang term “homey”.

Honestly, I don’t really like it, but it’s certainly an unusual option in the “old man nicknames” category of hipster boy names (think [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], [name_m]Frank[/name_m], [name_m]Sid[/name_m], [name_m]Monty[/name_m], etc.) The similarity to the word makes it less appealing and usable to me, though.

Yes, I agree. I would assume it’s short for [name_m]Homer[/name_m], not that it’s being used as a word name.

Nope. Not only is it slang, it’s a little dated. It sounds like the parents were trying to be hip or cool but they’re way out of touch with what’s actually popular. I feel like “homie” is only used ironically at this point.

To be honest, I’d hesitate with [name_m]Homer[/name_m] too. It just seems like a hard name to pull off. Sorry!

I think it could be quite a cute nickname, but I definitely wouldn’t be a fan of it as a full name.
Personally I think almost all names ‘age’ just fine, so if a child can pull of ‘Homie’ then so can an adult. In this case, I’m not sure Homie would be a good move on a person of any age, and [name_m]Homer[/name_m] is sort of cool but all I can think of is The Simpsons which is not a great namesake!

If it’s a nickname to [name_m]Homer[/name_m], I think it’s kind of cute! Reminds me of [name_u]Howard[/name_u] “[name_m]Howie[/name_m].” If it’s a name by itself, I definitely don’t like it. Too hard to wear, but then again, [name_m]Homer[/name_m] would be quite hard to wear with the Simpsons connection anyway.
