Is it prn Twi-luh?

Is it pronounced Tw-ILL-ah or Tw-EYE-lah? I would like the name better pronounced Tw-eye-lah. It sounds a little nicknamey to me, but with the trend going towards names like [name]Maisie[/name] that might not be a problem.

It is pronounce Tweye-luh with a long i sound.

I don’t really get the nick-namey feel from it since I can’t think of anything it would be short for. It is a shorter name, though.

I prefer short first names and looooong middle names.

I kinda like it, I’m not really into kinda of nicknamey names for names. Becuase I always find it hard to see the name age well. I’m more for the of the person who likes names with cute little nicknames. But if that’s your style & it would honor your grandmother, I would go for it.

all i think of is… twilight

It is pretty BUT my head went straight to Twilight. I bet a lot of people would wonder the same thing. Yikes!

Ok, so I voted “slightly dislike,” but then I read that you pronounce it tw-eye-la, and I actually really like it. My problem is the spelling - [name]Twilla[/name] looks like tw-ill-uh to me. I think if you use it, you should spell it [name]Twila[/name], which I think is the original spelling, will avoid pronunciation problems, and overall looks prettier. I don’t know how you feel about changing the spelling of your grandmother’s name, but I think since it’s basically the same name, it’s still definitely honoring her. Its very sweet and charming, and a name most people have heard but which is definitely still unique. Yes, it sounds like the word twilight, but I actually love that about it - the word twilight, I mean, not the movie, which will likely be forgotten before your child is old enough to even say her name so I certainly wouldn’t worry about that.

It sounds like a name that an obsessed twilight fan would name their child when they were trying to think of yooneeek names. Hate it.

I will probably never use this name, but I must defend it from the Twighlight and yooneek comments.

My grandmother has had this name since she was born and that’s just the way her mother decided to spell it. If I were to use it, I would feel completely fine spelling it the same way the namesake does.

Twilight is just a fad, family names are not. I feel that someone wanting to honor a family member is never in bad taste no matter what the current pop culture is. That being said, Twilight would not affect whether or not I were to use it.

Of course, I have taken no offense. I did want to know what the impressions you all got from it because I was curious and because I was hoping your opinions would make the name grow on me. It has a little, but not enough for me to ever use it.

Hopefully, someone else will still honor her in my family. I feel the name is worth using, just not by me. Sorry Grandma and [name]Max[/name].

I love it (although spelling [name]Twila[/name] might help people who would wonder ill-a or eye-la --I would spell it the way your grandmother does). I did not think of the Twilight fad at all. I think it’s lovely and feminine and, although short, does not sound like a nickname to me at all. I say go for it!
