Maybe it’s just me, but I automatically go to Children of the Corn. I think if I ever gave my child that name I would be deathly afraid of them.
I think of the name I want to give my son! The meaning of [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] and it’s biblical associations are what comes to mind. I haven’t even heard of Children of the Corn before looking up the name.
It’s best if you stray away from Children of the Corn. It’s not a bad name I just associate it with that movie which is a shame because I actually like it.
I think of my most beloved childhood dog. He was an Akita and his name was [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]. He was by far one of the best dogs I’ve ever had and though I’m sure most people don’t want their child associated with a dog, for me the name brings happy memories. I would love to see someone use this name for their child. Plus the nickname [name_u]Kai[/name_u] is adorable.
I think of the charismatic younger brother from [name_f]Angela[/name_f]'s Ashes, although his name was spelt [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] and maybe had a different pronunciation?
To me it has a very exotic sound. Until recently I didn’t know it was a biblical name and would have guessed it was arabic.
I think Jewish. Not that that is bad of course! [name_m]Just[/name_m] the first thought I had, like when you hear of a woman named [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] you think Scandinavian.
Wait, [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] isn’t Scandinavian?
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is Scandinavian. And [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] is Hebrew, which is why I think ‘Jewish’ first thing. Not that you can’t use the name if you aren’t Jewish!
I just think it is a cool name.
I also think of Children of the Corn. I think if I did not have that association, and it is a very strong association, I would really like the name.
Well, I do think of the book of the Bible, definitely.
But then I think of the character in Save the Last Dance…a dorky dance movie I watched a bunch of times as a teenager. There was a guy named [name_m]Malakai[/name_m] who went by [name_u]Kai[/name_u]. He was a gang member.
Exactly! I hate when that happens. When you find a name you like, but it’s been kind of ruined for you because you associate it with something not so great.
little old man with a beard with a twinkle in his eye.
rather share my name with a noble Akita - gorgeous dogs! - than with a bad person like Hitler or [name_m]Manson[/name_m].
I am not a big horror fan so I’ve not made it through Children of the Corn, but I do think movie/TV/media name associations are less serious than actual human being associations. Like naming your child [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m] [name_m]Booth[/name_m] or Sirhan Sirhan.
OMG YES I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT THOUGHT OF THAT MOVIE LOL great minds think alike ”
I love that name and I definitely prefer the spelling [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] (not [name_m]Malachy[/name_m]). My associations are quite different though, no movies… I’m kind of into science and stuff, so I actually thought of the green mineral called Malachite.
I know two little boys named [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], so I think of them. Unless the name is something like Voldemort or [name_m]Frodo[/name_m], pop culture associations tend to wear off quickly when the name is applied to a real person.
It makes me think Biblical/Religious.
I think of pasts.
