[name_m]Just[/name_m] as the title says, what do folks here think of the name [name_m]Yonah[/name_m]? We’re not settled on it, so brutal opinions welcome. It’s a fairly rare name but it would be after a friend of ours. Which gender do you think it leans toward, upon first hearing it? And have you met any children named [name_m]Yonah[/name_m]? Suggestions for middle names would be super as well! We generally favour gender neutral and nature-y names over all. Also, the friend in question called [name_m]Yonah[/name_m] is Jewish, and the name [name_m]Yonah[/name_m] has a Hebrew origin, but we’re not Jewish at all, would you take this as weird or concerning?
[name_m]Yonah[/name_m] is the name of a character in Children of [name_u]Eden[/name_u], so I’m fond of it. I think it would work on a girl or boy. I would probably assume that [name_m]Yonah[/name_m] might be Jewish or have Jewish heritage, but I wouldn’t be totally shocked if they didn’t.
I think [name_m]Yonah[/name_m] is really lovely, I think it is much more attractive to [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and gives me a very tranquil and thoughtful impression
I would assume you were Jewish if I were to hear it, but I don’t think that’s problematic, especially as you’re using it as an honour name
Its sounds feminine to me, simply because I used to have a friend who called me 'yona, short for [name_f]Iona[/name_f]. However, on paper I would guess it was Hebrew, and masculine. I does strike me as very Jewish, but I don’t know if I’d find it weird on somebody who wasn’t Jewish.
I really like it! At first hearing it I’d have assumed boys name but I think it would make a beautiful girls name too. And I don’t really think it matters now where a name originates from, if you like it use it, I don’t think people get offended any more and tbh it’s quite a nice gesture (not only for your friend but towards the names heritage too).
I see this quite an old post now, did you use the name? And if so what middle name did you choose?
Congratulations too x
