Here’s mine! (:

First name: [name]Jessica[/name]
Middle name: [name]Lucy[/name]
Nicknames: [name]Jess[/name] (friends), [name]Jessie[/name] (family), [name]Lucy[/name] (dad)
What I thought of it when I was younger: Hated it! Was far too popular - [name]Jessica[/name] has been one of the Top 10 girl’s names in the UK since 1994! Lots of people in my classes at school were called [name]Jessica[/name]. I wanted a ‘cooler’ more out-there name when I was younger, but then again I suppose most children did!
What I think of it now: I actually really like my name! (: It’s simple, everyone knows how to spell & say it, and I think it’s quite pretty! I also like my middle name.
What I might have been called: My parents wanted to call me [name]Willow[/name], but then they saw a film about a dwarf soldier guy who was called [name]Willow[/name] & decided against it!!

Your turn!

First name: [name]Jessica[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Marie[/name]
Nickname(s): My nn’s been Sica since before I can remember. My mom didn’t like any of the “[name]Jess[/name]” nicknames and I don’t either.
What I thought of it when I was younger: Neutral-- then gradually grew to dislike it.
What I think of it now: Hate it! I’m legally changing it soon.
What I might have been called: Idk. I’ve asked my mom multiple times, but she could never give me an answer.

First name: [name]Angel[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Starr[/name]
Nickname(s): none. I dislike Nicknames as my name is short enough.
What I thought of it when I was younger: I liked it fine when I was young. I didn’t meet another [name]Angel[/name] until I was in high school and several more, all men, since moving to a bigger city. The only time I disliked it wasn’t really me disliking my name, it was the stupidity of people who couldn’t understand that it was my name. I once had a sub argue with me in front of the whole class that my name was [name]Angela[/name] and I just didn’t know it an myself and my mother were stupid because [name]Angel[/name] isn’t a real name. Besides that, I used to get called [name]Angela[/name] and [name]April[/name] constantly by some people who refused to believe my name was [name]Angel[/name]. That stopped when I moved to a bigger city :stuck_out_tongue:
What I think of it now: I think I have a very nice name. I’ve since learned the meaning. My mom was doing some bad things with her life when she got pregnant with me and stopped. She said she named me [name]Angel[/name] "partly cause you saved my life, and partly cause of the epidural :stuck_out_tongue: " i think it’s very pretty and unique now.
What I might have been called: My mom and the doctors thought I was going to be a boy until the moment I was born so I was going to be [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]. I do love that name! When I was younger I almost wished I’d been an [name]Alexandria[/name] or [name]Alexandra[/name].

Thanks guys! This is really interesting!

First name: [name]Gina[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Lauren[/name]
Nickname(s): My cousins call me Gean ([name]Jean[/name]) and friends call me G but I have had sooo many others over the years!
What I thought of it when I was younger: I hated it! I used to tell my mom I was going to change it when I got older. It wasn’t pretty to me at all. I wanted to be [name]Tiffany[/name], [name]Courtney[/name], [name]Jessica[/name] or [name]Brittany[/name].
What I think of it now: I am so happy I don’t have any of the above names (no offense to anyone who does). I just love being the only [name]Gina[/name] around. I’m proud of my parents for not giving me a popular name. I have a name that everyone has heard of and is easy to pronounce yet not many people seem to know any other Ginas. My dad was dead-set on [name]Gina[/name] for a girl and it means a lot to me to have a name he enjoys so much. Plus, I love the initial G! It makes me smile to buy stuff with the letter G on it.
What I might have been called: If I were a boy, I was going to be “[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]” or “TJ.” My mom said they didn’t consider any other girls’ names.

First name: [name]Agnes[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Ottilie[/name] (I’ve used this since I moved to [name]England[/name], at age 10)
Nickname(s): Nope, but people have given [name]Aggie[/name], [name]Ottie[/name] and [name]Lia[/name] a go occasionally.
What I thought of it when I was younger: Hated [name]Ottilie[/name], loved [name]Agnes[/name]. No one ever understood [name]Ottilie[/name], and english people pronounce [name]Agnes[/name] in a horrible way.)
What I think of it now: love both my names.
What I might have been called: [name]Frida[/name], [name]Elvira[/name] or [name]Regina[/name].

First name: [name]Diana[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Rose[/name]
Nickname(s): Some call me D or [name]Di[/name], I only really approve of this though if it’s a close friend, I hate when someone I just met decides to shorten my name.
What I thought of it when I was younger: I always liked my first name, I liked how it connected to the [name]Goddess[/name] of the [name]Moon[/name], but I hated my middle name since a lot of people had it and I’m not a real fan of roses…
What I think of it now: Still love my first name, and indifferent to my middle, I hardly use it.
What I might have been called: My mom wanted to name me [name]Diamond[/name] [name]Rose[/name], her two favorite things, my dad said no to diamond and offered [name]Diana[/name] as a compromise.

First name: [name]Jessica[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Leigh[/name]
Nickname(s): [name]Jessie[/name] (My family exclusively calls me [name]Jessie[/name]. My brother called me [name]Jessica[/name] a couple of times in our life, but it has always sounded weird coming from him. My husband only calls me [name]Jessie[/name], too) [name]Jess[/name] (sometimes by friends, though mostly [name]Jessica[/name] or [name]Jessie[/name]) Pooh (That’s right. Pooh. As in [name]Winnie[/name]-the. I have no idea where this came about, but I swear if my mom or dad says it one more time in public, I’m leaving the state)
What I thought of it when I was younger: I never really gave it much thought. It was just my name.
What I think of it now: It’s really growing on me. I hardly ever hear it on myself, and it’s not as popular now as it used to be.
What I might have been called: My mom was also considering [name]Erica[/name] (or [name]Eric[/name], if I had been a boy). But she heard [name]Jessica[/name] on the news and decided to go with it. She didn’t know it was the #1 name of my birth year.

First name: [name]Francine[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Anne[/name] [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
Nickname(s): None, I like to be called [name]Francine[/name]
What I thought of it when I was younger: I loved my name! My friends were jealous of my name and always told me they wished they had my name.
What I think of it now: I still love my name and it is very dear to me because it is such a tradition in my family.
What I might have been called: [name]Rose[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Francine[/name] (those were the 4 names my parents chose and just had to determine how they were arranged - I’m really glad they arranged them the way that they did! )

First name: [name]Nancy[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Pierrette[/name]
Nickname(s): Nans
What I thought of it when I was younger: I didn’t like [name]Nancy[/name]. Everyone used to call me [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Reagan[/name] or tell me my first name wasn’t french enough for a little french speaking kid.
What I think of it now: I love my name. It’s short and easy to pronounce in many different countries. In my twenties I’ve travelled to South [name]America[/name], Europe and [name]Africa[/name] and everywhere I’ve travelled people know my name and can pronounce it. In fact I have short & easy to pronounce bilingual names for my girls
What I might have been called: My dad had decided that I was to be called [name]Shelley[/name] but when I was born my mother decided I didn’t look like a [name]Shelley[/name]. My god-mother was enumerating a bunch of names for my mom and when she said [name]Nancy[/name] my mom said “yup, that’s her” Thanks Mom!

First name: [name]Alexandra[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Sophie[/name] M____
Nickname(s): [name]Alex[/name], [name]Lexie[/name]
What I thought of it when I was younger: I went through a phase when I asked my mom if she would legally change my name either to [name]Alexandrina[/name] or Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint [name]Ephraim[/name]'s Daughter Longstocking (It was my favorite book/series). I actually always liked most of my name especially my mn’s since I was baptized when I was 8 and got to choose (with much guidance and persuasion from my mother) what I wanted my mn’s to be.
What I think of it now: I like it a lot. My mom didn’t intend for all three of my names to be family names - she picked [name]Alexandra[/name] out of a book because it sounded good in all three languages she spoke fluently - but I really like that they all are. I’m always been the black sheep in the family - hobbies, interests, college degree, ect - and it makes me feel more connected.
What I might have been called: If I had been a boy I probably would have been [name]Sasha[/name]. (I was almost [name]Sasha[/name] as a girl too).

First name: [name]Allison[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Elisa[/name]
Nickname(s): [name]Sonny[/name] (best friend), Esen (like SN? Mom calls me this), reallyy do not like to be called [name]Ally[/name]
What I thought of it when I was younger: I thought it was boring and not girly enough
What I think of it now: [name]Love[/name] it! No one has it, no one has trouble saying it, it’s really grown on me
What I might have been called: I was almost called [name]Sabrina[/name] but my dad wanted my name to start with [name]Al[/name]- like him

First name: [name]Maia[/name]
Middle name: [name]Susanne[/name]
Nickname(s): None
What I thought of it when I was younger: I hated it. I used to beg my mom to change it. It was constantly mispronounced and spelled wrong. Combined with my very difficult to pronounce last name, it was horrible. I’ve also had quite a few people think my name is [name]Maria[/name], and one boy in my second grade class told everyone my name was actually [name]Emma[/name] because [name]Maia[/name] wasn’t a real name.
What I think of it now: I don’t want to change it, and I like that I’ve never met another [name]Maia[/name]. However, it is still constantly mispronounced which can get quite annoying.
What I might have been called: Nothing. My mom says she knew her first born daughter would be [name]Maia[/name] [name]Susanne[/name] from when she was 15.

First name: [name]Camela[/name]
Middle name: [name]Grace[/name]
Nickname: [name]Cami[/name] (what I introduce myself as)
What I thought of it when I was younger: I never really gave much thought to my name at all. Nobody else was called [name]Cami[/name], and nobody made fun of me. The only thing that ever bothered me was that people constantly misspelled it as [name]Cammie[/name] or [name]Cammy[/name].
What I think of it now: I like the name itself, and I think it fits me. I don’t want any other name. People just cannot pronounce [name]Camela[/name] right. It’s pronounced like [name]Pamela[/name], but with a C. [name]Every[/name] time I go to the doctor, they call [name]Camella[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Camellia[/name], or [name]Camilla[/name]. The other thing people do is hear the name [name]Cami[/name] wrong. I have to explain that, no, my name is not [name]Tammy[/name], and no, it’s not [name]Kimmy[/name] either. I do like my middle name though. I was named after my grandma, and I like having a family name.
What I might have been called: If I had been a boy I would have either been called [name]Douglas[/name] [name]Scott[/name] or [name]Logan[/name] [name]Scott[/name].

First Name: [name]Karen[/name]

Middle Name: [name]Rose[/name]

Nickname: [name]Ren[/name] (most of the time), [name]Renny[/name] or [name]Holly[/name] (after my RP character, at meets of my website a few of the Americans call me [name]Holly[/name] rather than [name]Ren[/name])

What I thought of it when I was younger: Seriously not a fan. People at school tried to call me Kaz which is revolting, especially when said in a dreadful Scouse accent "-- I started going by [name]Ren[/name] was I was sixteen. My family mostly call me [name]Karen[/name] but I’m [name]Ren[/name] to everyone else I know. I suppose I was glad that I wasn’t one of the many Katies’ and Sarahs’ in my year. Being the only [name]Karen[/name] was pretty nice; I think it was just outside the top 100 when I was born in 1986. I was also one of the only one’s whose middle name was [name]Rose[/name]. [name]One[/name] of the oddest things I’ve noticed about being a [name]Karen[/name] is people’s inability to spell it properly. It’s one of the simplest names on the planet, you spell it as you say it and it only has five letters, yet I’m always asked: ‘is that with a C?’ ‘with two r’s?’ "--

What I think of it now: I don’t mind it but I still prefer being called [name]Ren[/name]. I’ve always liked my middle name as it was my nanna’s but since researching my family tree and discovering that I was the fifth girl to be called [name]Rose[/name] it’s made me like it even more

What I might have been called: If my mum hadn’t already used her favourite name on the cat I would have been [name]Gemma[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and if she’d stood up to my grandma I would have been [name]Ceri[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (Welsh [name]Kerry[/name]). Since my grandma vetoed it my mum and dad came up with [name]Karen[/name] or [name]Dawn[/name]. Mum let my dad have the final pick. He went with [name]Karen[/name] for which I will always be eternally grateful. I loathe the name [name]Dawn[/name].

First name: [name]Margaret[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Cynthia[/name]
Nickname(s): [name]Meg[/name], [name]Meggie[/name], Mega-Muffin (Dad likes to call me that), [name]Margo[/name] (Only my husband calls me that in private, but I love it!), very occasionally [name]Maggie[/name]

What I thought of it when I was younger: I didn’t much care for it. I thought it was an old-lady name and wanted to be a [name]Stephanie[/name] instead. (Or at least [name]Cynthia[/name], which I thought was prettier.)

What I think of it now: I love it! I just hate it when people assume that my nickname [name]Meg[/name] is short for [name]Megan[/name]. (Grr!) That’s why I always introduce myself as [name]Margaret[/name]. If people ask if they can call me by a nickname, I let them, but that actually doesn’t happen a lot. Fine by me, because I now prefer the full [name]Margaret[/name] (said with all three syllables!) the most.

What I might have been called: Eh, I was always going to be named after my grandmothers, so my parents were pretty much set on [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Cynthia[/name] from the beginning. I guess they could have switched it around to [name]Cynthia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], or if they used the middle names, then I might have been [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]/[name]Mae[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] instead.

Oh, at one point, they did briefly consider [name]Monica[/name] because my grandmother [name]Margaret[/name]'s birth name was actually [name]Monika[/name] until she had it legally changed, but that was just a passing fancy.

First name: [name]Jessie[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]May[/name]
Nickname(s): [name]Jess[/name], [name]Betty[/name], [name]Bet[/name] from my parents and [name]Jessie[/name] K by the people at school (does that count as a nn though? It’s basically just my name but they think it sounds like [name]Jessie[/name] J the singer)
What I thought of it when I was younger: Alright but loads of people called me [name]Jessica[/name] :frowning:
What I think of it now: I quite like it actually! I’m one of only a few Jessies
What I might have been called: [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] if I was a boy

First Name: [name]Alyssa[/name]
Middle Name: [name]Dawn[/name]
[name]Nick[/name] Names: [name]Allie[/name], [name]Al[/name], Liss, Lissy, [name]Lissa[/name], Lissy-[name]Dawn[/name], mostly just called [name]Alyssa[/name] though
What I thought about it when I was younger: Being named after my aunt [name]Alice[/name] I wished I had been named [name]Alison[/name] because [name]Alison[/name] sounded much more old fashioned to 10 year old me. Since both of my brothers go almost exclusivly by their nn I wished I had an easy nn too when I was 5 so I went by [name]Allie[/name] in kindergarten, but then I went back to [name]Alyssa[/name], over all though I liked it ok, I just always wished I had a more Old Fashioned name.
What I think of it now: it’s ok, no particular feeling for or against it, although I would never think of changing it because it is totally “me” now. I get frustrated with people always mispronouncing or misspelling my name, but everyone misspells it differently so there would never be a “perfect” spelling. I like my middle name just fine too, but I’m glad it’s not my first, I really like the combo.
What I might have been called: my mom said she sorta considered [name]Alisa[/name] or Alyssum, if I had been a boy I would have been either [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] or [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]James[/name]. [name]Glad[/name] I wasn’t [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]James[/name], I know lots of boys my age named Something [name]James[/name].

First name: [name]Shelly[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Marie[/name]
Nickname(s): [name]Shell[/name] (rarely), Shelaylay (by some friends).
What I thought of it when I was younger: I loathed both names. Especially my middle name.
What I think of it now: I still loathe my name. Except even more now.
What I might have been called: They didn’t pick names until they knew I was a girl, so they didn’t pick any boy names. They were planning on naming me KC [name]Marie[/name], which I would have prefered. It fits me way more.

First name: [name]Angela[/name]
Middle name(s): [name]Rose[/name]
Nickname(s): [name]Angie[/name] (My Mom always called me [name]Annie[/name] Bananie which I loved)
What I thought of it when I was younger: I liked my name and I liked my nn too.
What I think of it now: I still like it. I do prefer that people call me [name]Angela[/name] now.
What I might have been called: If I were a boy I would have been [name]Michael[/name] [name]Bernard[/name] after my Grandfather. I know that because my little brother got the name when he was born!
