Have a son called “Kahlen [name]Michael[/name] [name]Wolf[/name]” already and trying to desperately find a name that we like that’s different and that goes well with kahlen.
Whenever I hear and say it aloud I automatically want to change it to [name]Stefan[/name], which I love. Would you consider [name]Stefan[/name] instead?
I think it will be mistaken for [name]Stefan[/name] frequently as well. You probably won’t like the formal form of Zephan ([name]Zephaniah[/name]?)
If you want something different, how about Zenith? It means “the highest point, the utmost, the best”. It’s unlikely to be misheard as anything else.
I would go the same route as you did with Kahlen-- given him a standard classic middle name to ground the whole name. (i.e. Zenith [name]James[/name]).
Other ‘out-there but real names’ Z names:
Zdravko (means “healthy in Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, etc).
[name]Zeno[/name] (a famous philosopher from ancient Greece)
Ziad/ [name]Ziyad[/name] (Arabic name meaning “greater, abundance”)
[name]Zoltan[/name] (Hungarian word meaning “the sultan””)
Zsolt (short form for [name]Zoltan[/name])
[name]Zinedine[/name] (after the footballer)
[name]Zoran[/name] (“dawn, daybreak” in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian)
Zoriah (“strong-willed, independent”)
Zuma (a beach here in Malibu)
Would prefer [name]Zephyr[/name]. That’s a name that gets a lot of love around these parts. It means a gentle breeze, but [name]Zephyr[/name] himself was the Greek god of the west wind.
Of the 2 names you’ve listed, I prefer [name]Zephyr[/name] (spelled the proper way). It’s very handsome and I love the mythology.
I don’t think Zephan is bad though. There’s another member on here with a son named Zephan and i think I remember her talking about how is name gets mispronounced and mistaken for other names often.
I know a Zephan, and he is gorgeous. You could go for [name]Zephaniah[/name] and shorten it to Zephan. I have a [name]Zebedee[/name] so I’m very pro-Z names!
Great-- glad we could help! Any thoughts on a middle name? I think with such a strong and distinctive last name, and a strong and unusual first, a standard classic boys’ name might be best. Any family names of interest?
