i just had a dream last night about having a son named [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]. And after I woke up and thought about it- I actually kind of like it. I also loved the origin and it’s meaning aswell. And I’ve always loved Greek mythology and I still do now
What do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s “too out there”? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it too? Would it be better as a first name or a middle name?
I really love [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]!! I would love to use it but my husband isn’t a huge fan of it.
I don’t think it’s too out there at all, but I do tend to lean to more out there names for my kids so my ‘out there’ meter may be off. And I think it works great as both a first and a middle name.
I think it’s a name that hipster parents who live in Seattle and think they’re cool would name their kid. Zephyrs only go to Montessori preschools.
It’s fine if you live in that sort of cultural milieu, where people name their kids [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]; but where I’m from, where [name_m]John[/name_m] is still a top 10 name and [name_m]George[/name_m] is more popular than [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m], it’d stand out.
Zeph or Zephy’s kinda cool, though, as a nickname. I knew one as a kid, short for [name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m].
I always thought [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] was Russian for some reason. I pronounce it Zeh-feer. I like it, imagine he may get called zef-er more often than not… That may also be an acceptable pronunciation?
With some people I know no one would think twice as it’s a solid name. With the other half my people it would warrant explanation.
It’s on my list of names I quite like but know I won’t use for a son but not because I don’t like them. It’s a pretty name, interesting and just isn’t usually used in most places. I say go for it if it’s your favourite.
I like it, though it might be weird if you live in [name_f]Florida[/name_f]. (I do think of Zephyrhills brand of water.)
Compared to a lot of the more “out there” names on this site, I find it pretty wearable as a fn. Much of that is do with it being only two syllables and not really all that far removed in sound from a lot of popular trendy names. Though it would definitely make a cool mn too.
I’ve been hung up on the name I called a daughter in a dream for several years now. It’s fun to pay attention to.
I love it, and would have suggested it to my wife if I thought for a second she’s go for it. [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] is also very cool, but tends more feminine I think.
I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a kid named [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], I’ve met lots of kids with unusual names recently.
I love Zephyr! It looks/feels very modern while being an old name with nature and mythological associations. It’s the total package.
And I definitely don’t think it’s too out there.
My son is two, and kids we know and play with have names like Fox, Axel, Nova, Beatrix, Freya and Alistair (his own name is Archimedes nn Archie). I also met a Zephrin on the playground back in October.
