What do you think? Twin names

We are expecting identical twins and have settled on names! I’m so excited! DS wasn’t named until after he was born, so it’s a relief to have them picked early this time

Big brother is [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], last name rhymes with Hood.

Girls:
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] ([name_u]Abby[/name_u]) [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] ([name_f]Emma[/name_f]) [name_f]Faith[/name_f]

Boys:
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] ([name_u]Alex[/name_u]) [name_m]Allen[/name_m] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] ([name_m]Eli[/name_m]) [name_m]Michael[/name_m].

If they are boys, I’d prefer to switch the middle names, but DH thinks [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] sounds too much like [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] island. Thoughts on that?

[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] I love.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is fine; just a little popular for me. I would actually switch the middle names of the girls around if you’re open to that: [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is also far more common as a middle than [name_f]Faith[/name_f]. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]: gorgeous!
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] I like, but I would worry that he might be mistaken for a girl with the swamping of Elles and Ellies at the moment (and with a fair proportion of Ellises actually being female, I believe).
WDYT of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] ([name_m]Eli[/name_m]) [name_m]Allen[/name_m]? (Then you won’t have the [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] Island problem either).
Best of luck!

I love your choices! [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is still very masculine to me, despite the above poster’s concerns. I do agree with your hubby on [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m], but [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] works well.

You do realise it’s almost impossible to tell if twins identical before they’re born?

Yep. Wondering this myself.

I really do like [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f], it’s very sweet and girly, however I’m not loving it paired with the super popular [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], which to me sounds quite tough.

While your boys names are not my style, they work together quite well, but I have to agree with your husband on the [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] thing.

I love the name [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], so I say leave it. [name_m]Michael[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] combo sounds more like a first and last combo,
rather than if you left it [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Michael[/name_m], which I really like. It’s different, but super cute. I don’t care for [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m],
it didn’t remind me so much of [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] Island until you wrote that, but I don’t like the flow as much as [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Michael[/name_m].

I really love all the combos you have, and I love your son’s name, [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
I think all the names would also pair up great with his as a sibset. Good luck to you!

Your names are lovely. Have your decided which boy and girl name to pair if they don’t turn out to be identical and you have ne of each?

They’re always identical in fantasy land.

[name_f]One[/name_f] of our twins is [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], so I’m a bit biased but it’s a great name. I think [name_f]Emily[/name_f] would match it a bit better than [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] though. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] also happens to be my son’s middle name, so again I’m biased there. I like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] better than [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] though. Is it coincidence you’ve picked A and E names for both combinations or is it significant in some way to have those initials?

Our doc told us they are mo/di twins at our first appointment, meaning identical. He said there is a small chance they are fraternal, but it definitely didn’t look like it. So no, it’s not just my “fantasy land”

I don’t appreciate being jumped on about knowing whether or not they are identical when that’s far from what this post is about.

If on the off chance the doctor was wrong and we end up with one of each, we will choose one of our girl names and one of our boy names.

Thanks to those who actually gave input on the names. I appreciate it!

Hmm… Hadn’t thought of that (me not thinking)? You have to realize a lot of berries have never been pregnant with twins and don’t know a lot about them. You will begin to know right away that there are a lot of misconceptions about twins. I was on a different forum (about books) where a reader wrote in to complain that having twins who look nothing alike was impossible. I replied explaining that fraternal twins existed.
As for telling fraternal twins tend to run in families. Also it may have to do with how close the fetuses are to each other. I wonder if you were basing this some sort of DNA testing. I am not sure what (mo/di) means, but if the doctor said it he probably understands what he is saying.
A lot of people (not you) prefer to live in fantasy land while pregnant. A couple I know told themselves the whole time the baby was definitely a boy (and refused an ultrasound in order to sustain this fantasy) and she gave birth to a girl (same pregnancy). I thought that was pretty dumb myself, but there are people out there like that.

As for your names, I like them although they are definitely popular and ordinary. Nothing wrong with that. I have known tons of Alexs and both [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] are top ten names. (#9 and # 7 in the USA). If that doesn’t bother you they’re nice names, I like that for twins they’re not too matchy. I went to school with twins named [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] and [name_u]Alexis[/name_u]. They were fraternal but still looked so much very few people could tell apart.
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m] on your identical twins!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] all of your name options for your twins, nicknames and all. They go very well with owen too!

Regarding the twin thing, yes, if you’ve been diagnosed with monochorionic twins, those are almost always identical. Diagnosis for that can come pretty early. So I don’t doubt OP’s story.

OP, just so you realize, we get A LOT of people trolling these boards with imaginary multiple pregnancies for fun, and it bothers us because we’re here to help people name actual children, not play games. There’s a whole separate board for that. So that’s why the finger-pointing started because we get this sort of thing a lot, and in most cases (without a monochorionic diagnosis), people don’t know whether their twins are identical. [name_m]Even[/name_m] after birth, sometimes. [name_m]Hence[/name_m] the virtual eye rolls at your statement.

Anyway. I agree with pp about a few things. Here’s my issues with/thoughts on your list so far.

1.) [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Faith[/name_f] are a little… common, for my taste. But [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are much more common than [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] and [name_f]Faith[/name_f], so I agree that if these are the middles, they should be swapped. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though the middles aren’t my particular taste and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is too popular for me, I think these two name combos are lovely for twin girls. They go very well together.

2.) [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] has some issues. Definitely agree that [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] is “[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] Island” to the ear, and I don’t like [name_m]Allen[/name_m] after [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], either. [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and [name_u]Alex[/name_u] sound too much alike, and the combo is a tongue-twister.

3.) I really like pp’s suggestion of [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], but I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (from your sig list) even more. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] is my pick for your boys. [name_f]Regal[/name_f], classic, yet contemporary.

4.) I just want to compliment you on your twin-naming skills. I really like that your combos aren’t matchy-matchy, yet they stay in the same family of styles. And you’ve picked some great classic names that also go well with your son’s.

Ha. No, definitely not a troll. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a mama seriously obsessing over what to name her kids. We couldn’t agree on a name for DS until an hour after he was born. The idea of naming two stresses me out!

Thanks for the input, ladies.

I think they are all lovely names, but the girls picks are very popular, if you are ok with that.

  • what about [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f], or [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Faith[/name_f] [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]?

with the boys; [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] are lovely. have you thought about [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] as a girls name? i know a 6 yr old lovely sassy gal named [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] it for a girl. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] will get ‘[name_u]Alex[/name_u]’ so do you like alex and ellis together? [name_u]Alex[/name_u] allen is a bit of a tongue twister. so is [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] allen. [name_m]Micheal[/name_m] is nice for the middle name of one of them.
