What do you think?

My husband and I are pretty set on the name [name]Juniper[/name] if we have a girl. As for a middle name, we’re still tossing up ideas because I want something that honors my hawaiian heritage. My grandmother’s given name was Hina (Hee-Nah) and so it is a name that both honors my grandmother and the hawaiian background I am looking for. I also appreciate the mythology behind the name as brings more meaning to it for me. The goddess Hina is thought to be the mother of the god Maui, which is the island my dad was born on (he is now passed away). The reason I’m coming here is because I’m not sure if the two names flow well together. When I say it, I’m not completely sold on it. I usually get knowledgeable feedback from this community so I’m looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with Hawaiian names to give good suggestions that would both honor your grandmother and father. I don’t see a problem with the name you have chosen or its flow. Have you tried reversing the order of the first and middle names?

I love [name]Juniper[/name]! You could always use a double middle name if you want to put something between [name]Juniper[/name] and Hina that might help you feel like they flow better. Nameberry has a blog on Hawaiian names:

I think [name]Juniper[/name] Hina sounds great! What a great way to honor your heritage and your family!
