[name]Harper[/name] is too girly now? can i use it for a boy?
I personally wouldn’t … but you don’t have to ask permission to use it. It’s your call!
I do think it’s girly now; the only reference I really have though is [name]Harper[/name] from “Wizards of [name]Waverly[/name] Place”.
Personally, I wouldn’t use it for a boy. I don’t like the idea of crossing boys over into girl name territory. I don’t really like it vice-versa either, but I feel that girls probably get less grief for opposite-sex or unisex names than boys do.
That being said, I know what it’s like to be in love with a name. If it has been a long-time favorite, weigh your options carefully and go for it!
While [name]Harper[/name] has been rising meteorically for girls, [name]Harper[/name] has also been rising for boys. I will likely be in the minority here, but I think [name]Harper[/name] is viable for a boy. The only way to keep a name from going all girl is to continue using it for boys.
I’ve actually met more boys named [name]Harper[/name] and no girls.
I love [name]Harper[/name] on a boy (and [name]Fifer[/name]) and let the girls have [name]Piper[/name].
I think [name]Harper[/name] works for a boy though I have heard it more and tend to prefer it a little more for a girl, but you have to pick what you love and it is a great name! It was a good friends last name growing up and HE was a boy so maybe I see it more masculine for this reason.
I love [name]Harper[/name]! I honestly love it for both genders. It does concern me that it’s almost top 50 for girls now, and I’m sure it’s headed straight for the top. [name]Harper[/name] does still rank for boys (in the 600 range, last I knew?), so that gives me more comfort than my beloved [name]Bailey[/name], but I’m to the point where I’m not sure I would use it for a boy. Although [name]Harper[/name] rose almost 100 spots for boys in the past year, I just checked, so why not? Maybe [name]Harper[/name] will be one of those names equally usable on both genders. I would honestly love to meet a boy named [name]Harper[/name]. I’d be much more impressed than if [name]Harper[/name] was a girl.
Besides, I’ve heard a lot of pop culture associations to boys named [name]Harper[/name] lately… I know it was used in NCIS this past season, and another TV show, I think, too, and a couple years ago it was in Detroit 1-8-7, which is where I first fell for it. Maybe that’ll help boost [name]Harper[/name]'s popularity for the boys!
Good luck!
I also love [name]Harper[/name] but think the girls have stolen it successfully, sadly… But that’s probably just because I know two little girl Harpers who wear it well… If you love it on a boy it would be totally reasonable and if I heard it tied to a boy I don’t think I’d be too surprised
The name itself could definitely be used on a boy, but since almost every [name]Harper[/name] is a girl, and when you hear the name you associate it with a girl, I don’t think it’s usable.
It is a unisex name, but for me, it’s more of a feminine name.
oh, and one more thing - a friend of mine just used it for her newborn boys middle name
