I am curious if anybody else struggles finding names for a particular gender? Do girls or boys names come more naturally to you?
Personally, girl names come SOOO easily for me and my girls list is always one I adore (and rarely changes up), they come soo naturally. Boy names on the other hand dont come soo easily or naturally to me.
Anyways, what names are inspiring you right now for girls and boys?
I think it’s less that I struggle to find names but more that I struggle to commit to boys names. I have have more girl and neutral names that I love wholeheartedly but so many boys names just …fade…
Right now, I’d thinking about [name_f]Cordie[/name_f], [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m], [name_f]Saya[/name_f], [name_f]Elexia[/name_f], [name_m]Taliesin[/name_m], [name_m]Aneurin[/name_m], [name_f]Ro[/name_f], [name_m]Adair[/name_m], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Romy[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f], [name_f]Mab[/name_f], [name_f]Mabli[/name_f], [name_f]Winry[/name_f], [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f], [name_f]Cloelia[/name_f], [name_f]Jette[/name_f], [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], Severn - which is…a mix
For me it’s complicated. I generally get more excited about girl names / girl combos, but my girl names are also less stable. [name_f]My[/name_f] style changes a lot. For boy names, I know what I like and the list of names I like is short.
Totally makes sense!! [name_f]My[/name_f] lists have always been soo short like around 5 names. And I have always been jealous of those with at least a Top 10, but I just couldnt ever do it!
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] is soo sweet and handsome I really wish it worked with my last name!! [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is lovely!
Literally same–I find girl names soooo much easier. However, I’ve been inspired by a few boy names lately–here’s my new list for boys (which I have yet to put into combos):
[name_m]Claude[/name_m]
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
[name_f]Darcy[/name_f]
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]
[name_m]River[/name_m]
[name_m]Webster[/name_m]
[name_m]Bellamy[/name_m]
[name_m]Willoughby[/name_m]
[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m]
I totally agree with @Greyblue on the boy name list side of things. For some reason it’s harder to go from liking a boy name to happily being like ‘I can picture using this name for my child.’ Wish I knew why that was different between my two lists but it is, I suppose.
Recently I have been floating between more unusual/statement names like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Indigo[/name_f], [name_f]Parisa[/name_f], [name_m]Foster[/name_m], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], or [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] and more cottagecore combos that incorporate classic + nature names together, ex. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f].
I’m really hoping that when I find out what I’m having things will click a bit more and I’ll know what style to lean into for their name. But we’ll see!
DH and are struggling to agree on boys names even though I have plenty on my list. We’ve agreed on at least 2 girl names so if we have a boy we’re going to have to scour the entirety of name-dom lol
[name_f]My[/name_f] girls list is approximately 50 miles long. I switch up my top ten regularly. [name_f]My[/name_f] boys list is a little more discerning, about 10-15. I pretty much have them decided, each one is very sentimental for me and it would take a lot to make me change my mind about any of them.
Girls tend to be a lot easier for me and they switch around a lot, but boys are harder. I’m just more picky with boy names/combos! Luckily, that means that I have a list of boy names that I really do adore and will stay for muuuch longer than a girl name might.
I have always found compiling lists of useable boy names much more challenging. For every 10 girl names I love, I’ll find 2 or 3 boy names that are even list worthy. I think there are an overwhelming number of boy names that simply don’t sound appealing to my ear.
This is my third boy, so I’ve really exhausted my arsenal of names. It’s proving much tougher this time.
I’m feeling drawn to these lately:
[name_m]August[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
Usually I can fall in love with so many girl names but for boys it’s definitely more difficult.
At the moment I can’t stop thinking about these names:
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiorenza[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Romy[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
For me its more of my styles between boys and girls are so drastically different (at least I feel they are) that if I ever had to make a mixed sibset in real life they’re going to be horribly matched stylistically. [name_f]My[/name_f] girls are much more whimsical with a stone vintage gems in there (like [name_f]Apolline[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Araluen[/name_f], Arietty, [name_f]Silence[/name_f] etc) where as my boys I would describe as soft modern classic (like [name_m]Alder[/name_m], [name_m]Ira[/name_m], Louis/Lewis, [name_m]Wallace[/name_m], [name_m]August[/name_m], [name_m]Sawyer[/name_m] etc)
And I agree with others that my boy list is a lot more stable than my girls. [name_f]My[/name_f] style and favorites when it comes to boys hasn’t changed much, where as my girls rotate through a lot more often.
I find it much easier to find and be inspired by new girls names. Not only do I discover ones I’ve never heard of more frequently, but when I do I can see the beauty in them much more often. I love more unusual choices, and I can actually find them with girls. Boys, on the other hand, I feel like there’s a much smaller pool, and if I do come across a new name it’s rare that I like it. They often feel less accessible, and I struggle to imagine them in a way that appeals to me.
That being said, as a result I tend to be more all over the place with my girls. Crushes come and go all the time. My top names are pretty stable, but I often can’t decide on the order past the top 3. Whereas my boys are set and rarely change, and I absolutely adore them.
As a good example, the names I’m currently crushing on, thinking about, or considering for my list for girls right now are:
Pyrrha
Arnaea
Orphéa
Tethys
Nyla
Telesilla
And for boys? Elyan and Laith. And as much as I love Laith, it loses points for being in the top 1000 where I live. It’s been a while since I’ve come across a boys name I like the sound of.
I find more girls’ names that I love than I do boys’ names. With that said, I’m more for sure on what I want to name my future son/s than I do my future daughter/s
I think because there’s fewer boys’ names that I’m more set about them as I haven’t found anything as close to how much I love them
While with girls’ names I love them all so much and realistically I know I’m not going to have more than 2-4 kids max so I probably won’t get the chance to use them all. Making it harder to pick which few I’ll actually use
You are not alone with this!
Most Berries seem to find boy names harder, for various reasons. I actually made a poll about this a few months ago: Why are girl names easier?
Personal, I think it’s mostly because of the wider range of girl names. That means there is a) more to pick from and b) more acceptance for adventurous, out-there names.
I absolutely agree, girl names come so easy to me but boy names absolutely not. I have names in my notes on my phone and there is about 45 pages overall of first and middle names and probably 35 pages are girl names.
[name_f]Girl[/name_f] names that I like at the minute are:
