I was wondering what sort of names most of you ladies use on the site, either in threads or in your signature…Are they names you know realistically you could use (bearing in mind your other half, family or any other limitations)… Or are they just names you love and would use in a perfect world where you could name your child anything you want? lol. I tend to put names I feel I could realistically use on future children, or have discussed with my partner and he is OK with them.
Well, we’ve pretty much agreed on [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] ([name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_u]James[/name_u] are strong family names we both love), and are only planning to have 2-3 children. If we had more than one girl, her middle name would almost certainly be [name_u]Arden[/name_u]; a second boy would probably be [name_m]Audun[/name_m] or [name_u]Walker[/name_u]. So the rest are names I really love and could totally see using in the spots left, but some he’s not very in to ([name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_m]Travis[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Wystan[/name_m]) and so are less realistic. But you never know! [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of time to convince him, and he’s pretty willing to go along with me on names if I feel very strongly ([name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]! I really want to convince him on [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]). I didn’t list my true guilty pleasures that even I wouldn’t want to really use, though ([name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]) even though he likes some of those, too - we both agree they’re just a bit too whimsical or out there to want to give to a real person, despite being fun to say and think about.
Mine are mostly names I would and could actually use, though there are a couple that have been vetoed or are unusable for various reasons. For example, DH doesn’t like [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] or [name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] has been taken by a family member, and [name_u]Asa[/name_u] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] have bad associations for DH (which I think could be overcome in time muahahaaa).
Some of my combos would get re-jigged/combined for a real baby - for example, my top boy’s name at the moment is actually [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]. But I wanted a combo with [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] as a fn in my signature because I love it and after I posted a thread asking for nn suggestions, someone suggested [name_m]Bear[/name_m] and I loved that too, so into the sig it went!
I have my top 5 which is really our top five names we’d use in real life. Then, my other combos are just names I love and have been coming up with for the last few months. Though I really want to convince him to use anika snow. But he told me I decided on my names and that’s that.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is a definite for a girl’s name (and that would be her first name…I go back and forth on the middle). Ditto for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. These are names the DH and I have discussed and agree on. After that, well. I’d say it’s a mix. Some of the names I love and he doesn’t, and some of them (like [name_m]Ivo[/name_m], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]) I love but probably wouldn’t use irl.
I would realistically use all of mine, with the exception of [name_f]Oceana[/name_f] [name_f]Glory[/name_f]. For now, it’s a crush and honor name I put together, originally [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. But I think I prefer the former. Still, it seems a bit ‘out there’, unlike my other potential names.
Interesting responses! I even have a few names that I didn’t even consider before ([name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]) but my OH likes them so I’m trying to come up with combos I’d actually use
I am single and 17, so no babies for the foreseeable future, but the firsts in my girls combos are definitely what I want to use, especially Jane. The middles might get switched around. The single names are ones I love, but probably wouldn’t use because I don’t love them with Jane.
For boys, I’m not entirely sure. The combos are the names I like best, but I’m afraid I’ll chicken out and just use Andrew or Stephen. The combos are more solid though. I’m more set on Ciaran David than I am on Jane Felicity. The only one that has been switched around recently is Jonah Malachy instead of Peter Malachy.
All the names in my signature are ones that my husband and I have both agreed on are are planning to use on future children. Although, out of them all, we do have different favourites!
I like the fact of continuing on family names, and honoring people who are close to me. Almost all of my middle names are family names. [name_m]Knox[/name_m], [name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_u]Laurence[/name_u], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_f]Helen[/name_f] ([name_f]Helena[/name_f]), [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] ([name_u]Jesse[/name_u]), and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] are all family names. I wouldn’t use a name though if I didn’t like the sound of it (for example, [name_m]Donald[/name_m] is [name_m]Dan[/name_m]'s dad… and I just don’t like the name).
As far as the other names, I usually pick names that I like the sound of and that have a cool meaning. I am not a big fan of nicknames, so if you notice, almost all of my first names don’t have nns (with the exception of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], because I like both [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u], and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] which would be shortened to [name_f]Flo[/name_f]), with longer, more traditional, middle names. I like a mix of eclectic and classic
All the names in my sig are names I’d use on real children.
In posts I’m a bit more fantastical and I suggest things I personally would never use, but everyone is at a different place and maybe they would use it.
But yea, my sig isn’t “perfect world” names, or it would be a lot longer!
They are names that I would use, but a lot of them I can’t use them because of language reasons
I tend to stick to names I know I could see myself and my husband using. I think it makes the naming process a lot easier if you just have the names you’re willing to use written down instead of a bunch of fanciful combos clouding your judgement! Although I will admit to having two guilty pleasure names in my signiture at the moment…
All of mine are ones I would actually use and my husband has agreed on. He’s not very picky and likes unique names. [name_u]Claude[/name_u] is a family name, my in-laws can’t stand it and I can’t help but feel like they’d be a little put out if we used it, but hubby and I adore it.
I put very unrealistic names in my signature, honestly. I won’t be having children for a long time, but I’m one of those teenagers obsessed with names. I do love many classic names, despite what my signature suggests, but I just prefer advertising the more unusual ones, if that makes any sense…
I’m not at the point of having children but a lot closer than I used to be, I am not married yet but in a very serious relationship and are about to move in with each other. My names are a lot more realistic than they used to be. However, I haven’t asked my BF about most of the names of my list so I have no idea if he would agree. So far he said he likes [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], [name_m]Matteo[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], & [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I think…we’re just not in the place to seriously discuss names yet. He is pretty open though, he knows how into names I am and has said in the past that he’d trust me to name them.
