What images does the name Clyde conjure up?

[name_u]Clyde[/name_u] has been on and off the long list, initially more so as a middle but I’m trying to get my husband to consider it as a potential first since we keep coming back to square one for potential first names.

However, I’ve been sort of surprised that almost everything I’ve read in older forums here and on Reddit make references to it being a very western or cowboy name? I guess that’s due to [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] and [name_u]Clyde[/name_u]? Despite the [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] & [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] association, [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] has always felt more underused classic/grandpa to me than the “hick country cowboy” I’ve seen so many describe it as.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what some current impressions of [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] are. We are from Oklahoma, where I don’t see [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] being a name used by people I consider “hick country cowboys” :joy::woman_shrugging:

For me, [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] reminds me of rushing rivers, colder skies, pleasantly rainy days, but also city skylines, umbrellas??? no idea why it’s giving this

Uk perspective: older Scottish gentleman! I don’t have any other imagery I’m afraid, although I do like the name in theory for a younger person/baby. It’s soft and naturey.

Hah, I’m actually in the middle! It’s cowboy but in a gentlemanly, grandpa way? Like a cowboy from an older era, so cowboy vintage  I would be more inclined to match it with other grandpa names like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] than any of the modern cowboy names like [name_u]Wyatt[/name_u] and [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] if that makes sense!

It’s definitely cowboy for me, but I’d assume parents of a baby [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] these days are either hipster types or using a family name. I hesitate to describe anything as “hick”, but it fits more with other cowboy type names like [name_u]Wyatt[/name_u], [name_m]Stetson[/name_m], [name_m]Nash[/name_m], etc. to me rather than more vintage names like [name_u]Walter[/name_u], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], or [name_m]Rupert[/name_m].

I think of the [name_u]South[/name_u] [name_u]Park[/name_u] character

I love [name_u]Clyde[/name_u]! I have a character with that name so it’s hard for me to separate the character from his aesthetic, but overall it gives me very laid back, effortlessly cool vibes.

[name_u]Clyde[/name_u] does have some western flavor too it and seems a bit dated to me. Dust, tumbleweeds, and saloon shoot outs come to mind.

well, it makes me think of [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] and [name_u]Clyde[/name_u]

[name_f]My[/name_f] main associations are [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] & [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] and Clydesdale horses.

I also think of Clydesdale horses!

Funny, I didn’t think of [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] and [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] at first. I guess [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] in isolation doesn’t have the same connection. I like the name, I’m partial to old fashioned names due for a comeback.

It does feel southern though not cowboy to me… I think of a grandfather with a southern accent or I hear it in the voice of [name_u]Southern[/name_u] belle playing coy with her dance partner (“Oh [name_u]Clyde[/name_u], you rascal”). Not sure if that’s all that helpful!

i think of [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] & [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] so a cowboy/outlaw vibe to me. I also think of clydesdale horses so i guess that compounds with the cowboy even though those aren’t really ranch horses

It does make me think of cowboys a little, but also a very gentle “grandpa name”. It reminds me of Clydesdale horses too. When I first hear the name, I think of a grandpa reading a book in a little nook on a peaceful farm.

[name_u]Clyde[/name_u] gives me a rugged, mountainous, handsome feel. On a little boy, I would picture someone who loves being outside- splashing in puddles, climbing trees, swimming, playing hid and seek in the forest, building forts in the backyard, barefoot. A darling little boy who is a little shy, totally loving and never wants to hurt anyone’s feelings. Maybe with mussed hair and a bit on dirt on his face at all times. So cute.

[name_u]Clyde[/name_u] reminds me of my favorite sport which is NASCAR stock car racing 1 of my favorite current drivers which is Cup Series driver [name_u]Chase[/name_u] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] and his dad former NASCAR cup series driver [name_m]Bill[/name_m] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] their middle name is [name_u]Clyde[/name_u]
