What is nameberry trying to sell you?

Nothing literally, of course-- but what ads popp up when you’re on the site?

Today nameberry is selling me urinary catheters. Evidently I can have 200 delivered to my door for a low monthly fee.

Last week it was essure, the permanent sterilization technique. I took that rather personally.

Haha I believe it’s based partly on your browsing history, right? I have an Expedia ad, which makes sense because I travel frequently and that’s a good portion of the sites I go to. I’ve also gotten a few car ads, which I’m not sure about- I’m not looking to buy one!

[name]Cocoa[/name] flavanols!

I get a lot of Zulily ads…even though I’ve never been on that website.

most of mine are for ancestry.com, which makes a lot of sense because I’ve been spending a lot of time there lately.

I’ve also gotten zulily ads and never been there lol

at the moment I have a flower ad and I get car ads. Im 14 what do I need a rental car for???

I’ve been getting a lot from the Honest Company and travel sites lately. The later makes sense but considering I’m not pregnant or TTC and haven’t been found a lot of research outside of naming sites I find it rather amusing - also it’s totally freaking out my SO which is just funny. Hihihihihihihi.

Adoption. Lots of adoption.

Nameberry is trying to sell me babies.

I’ve got banner ads on the homepage, both of which are for banks; Specifically giving me interest rates to consolidate my debts!

My only debt is my student loan, which is interest free anyway. Stupid internet.

I use Firefox with AdBlock, so there aren’t any ads.

On my work computer though, they try to sell me books and films and CD’s I’ve been looking at from the store where I usually buy them, and there’s an anti-wrinkle miracle grandma with a 2$ trick or something.

(I’ll most likely never have a wrinkle problem though. My great-grandmother whom I look exactly like never had any, I also have very pale skin that burns easily from the sun (I got 2nd degree burns in Norway!) and I react to all the chemicals in sunscreen, so I do my best not to spend too much time exposed to sunshine. [name]Sunshine[/name] is one of the things that can make you wrinkly. I’ve only recently managed to look like I’m wrinkling my forehead.)

Oh my goodness, this is hilarious and terrifying. Obviously I’m on Nameberry all the time and of course like the rest of you, I get lots of ads that betray my browsing history.

Like most sites our size, the ads on our site are delivered via several ad networks – we don’t pick and choose though we have blocked some offensive advertisers that have popped up when we see them – and what you see individually is partly determined by cookies you’ve unknowingly picked up as you browse around online. Many of the ads like Zulilly are content-appropriate but many are just you-appropriate (at least theoretically, very theoretically. [name]Blade[/name], I never see ads for catheters…).

It’s definitely based on my browsing history…

[name]Baby[/name] formula, baby clothes, mama & baby products, cars, travel, real estate, shoes and shaman services.

There’s currently a banner for zulily and one for [name]Rhapsody[/name]. I’m not sure where the [name]Rhapsody[/name] one comes from but I do frequent zulily!

Wait I got that one today too. And an ad for advancing my education. I’m currently in grad school and I’ve never had debt.
I wonder if they are trying to tell me my MFA will be useless. hmmmm…

I have a Chrysler ad and a Chromebook ad. Neither based on anything I do on line.

Cars and Coach. There’s usually some kind of children’s clothing ad too

Today a weight loss programme, shapewear underwear and a clothing site.

Now the clothing site I have visited once, but never the others. Apparently NB thinks I’m fat. :frowning:

male catheters and mouth ulcer ointment.

Right now it’s
1 go daddy domain
1 online international money exchange services
1 zulily

Right now:

  1. Catfood (I don’t even have a cat)
    2.Catheters

I frequently get Zulily ones although I don’t mind those because the little dresses are sooooo cute.
