I’ve got a little bit of a discussion question for today!
What would you consider typical [name_u]Berry[/name_u] taste? What styles or names do people on the website often gravitate towards? I know there’s plenty of different styles on the site, but what seems to be the common ground?
Some elements I notice:
-Vintage revival names
-Names with connections to nature, mythology, and literature (especially in the middle name spot for braver picks!)
-Western European names
-Names with long histories of use
-Names that have nicknames
I think vintage names are definitely big on NB, but only to a point. People rave about [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] & [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], but call [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] & [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] dated.
[name_u]Nature[/name_u] names! A lot of [name_u]Wren[/name_u] & [name_f]Fern[/name_f], and I’ve seen [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] popping up a lot lately.
Flourishing/intricate/unusual middles like [name_f]Wilderose[/name_f], [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], and Courage.
I think it’s a little mix of everything! I definitely see a lot of vintage revival and long history names so I think those would be the tops, with nature, mythological and literature being present but mostly in middles.
i’d definitely say traditional seeming names that are outside the top 1000 are popular here, along with longer, more sophisticated names like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] etc
I’d say most people gravitate towards [name_f]English[/name_f]/Anglo-American names - [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] comes up a lot, but rarely do I see anyone talk about [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f], for example.
Most people prefer traditional names - except for those that are considered dated, or too popular.
I feel there’s a good mix of everything!
I’m always used to seeing vintage-esque names, more mythical and fantasy inspired names, nature names is a collection I’m always seeing a lot of, I see a lot of posts regarding bohemian style names, and also just traditional “top 100” names.
Such a fun topic!
I think “typical” also comes down to the age of the user. Over the years I’ve noticed that the younger the berrie, the more adventurous the style (this also goes for positive feedback regarding adventurous names). There are always exceptions, but in general, once people name real babies (or get closer to it), they tend to go with safer choices. These tend to be vintage, often literary names that tend to have a British/European vibe. Also, short nickname-y names, less so [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_m]Eddie[/name_m], but [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Liv[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_u]Jem[/name_u], etc.
Greek names have always been very fashionable on NB, [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f],… and I think most berries have had one of those on their list at one point (or will in the future).
I think vintage names are big here
Sweet spot names (unique, but not weird) are popular among all groups of mothers, it all boils down where are the limits of unique and weird I don’t think it’s only nameberry’s thing
Western names are obviously big here, with emphasis on British-[name_u]French[/name_u] style many of us here like due to how classy they sound, plus they sound more vintage than dusty, like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] over [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], I also think American only names aren’t big here because many of them aren’t that vintage. Only exception is nicknames names - Short, but cute names are big in many EU countries, and so are in [name_u]Britain[/name_u], but here you can’t find that.
I also think everybody here loves [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and it’s variant [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]. It’s one name I can’t find on any other site as much as here.
