[name]Gianna[/name] - A very Italian name. [name]Gia[/name] is a nickname. Not my fave.
[name]Lillian[/name] - Soft and feminine, but I also think of that [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Vernon[/name] catalog that comes in the mail. I prefer [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Shelby[/name] - Makes me think of hermit crabs. LOL! It sounds dated to me. I don’t like it.
[name]Olivia[/name] - I think of the female cop on [name]Law[/name] and Order: SVU and the pig from the [name]Olivia[/name] picture books. It’s an okay name, but fairly common.
[name]Lillian[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] are such beautiful classics! [name]Shelby[/name] is cute, but seems a bit dated. I am not a fan of [name]Gianna[/name].
[name]Gianna[/name] - very Italian, would personally only use if I (or my SO) had Italian heritage.
[name]Lillian[/name] - classic, a bit old-lady, but that probably means that it is coming back around into being popular
[name]Shelby[/name] - tomboyish name
[name]Olivia[/name] - nice, but very popular these days
[name]Gianna[/name] - as other berries have mentioned [name]Gianna[/name] is beautiful, but very Italian sounding.
[name]Lillian[/name] - Beautiful, it’s very stunning and has vintage charm!
[name]Shelby[/name] - Cute, I think of an outgoing, friendly girl
[name]Olivia[/name] - Gorgeous, but definitely very popular today, so you need to decide if popularity is important to you or not
In order of my favorites:
[name]Gianna[/name]-[name]LOVE[/name], but it is quite Italian (but i’d yse it anyway-it’s so beautiful)
[name]Lillian[/name]-pretty and vintage and spunky
[name]Shelby[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] are tied for last. I don’t much care for either. [name]Olivia[/name], while pretty, is very popular. [name]Shelby[/name] is just not my style.
[name]Gianna[/name]–Italian
[name]Lillian[/name]–sweet
[name]Shelby[/name]–southern
[name]Olivia[/name]–sassy popular girl
I think [name]Shelby[/name] would be a pretty middle name!
Thanks for the honest feedback! I am pleasantly surprised that [name]Lillian[/name] is getting such favorable comments. I love the name but was unsure how others would respond. I’m also a little shocked that everyone lists [name]Gianna[/name] as purely Italian and possibly unusable. My husband already made me cross [name]Leilani[/name] (one of my top picks) off the list because it was too Hawaiian. I just want a beautiful name for my baby girl!
[name]Gianna[/name] - Not one I would use, but it’s very nice.
[name]Lillian[/name] - I think of [name]Lil[/name] from Rugrats, as that is her full name. However, it’s very nice. And I love the name [name]Lilly[/name].
[name]Shelby[/name] - That’s my dog’s name. x) I think it’s nice though!
[name]Olivia[/name] - Not bad, but not my style.
[name]Gianna[/name] - First thought - Italian name; that said it is a lovely name! I have heard it pronounced [name]Gee[/name]-ah-na and Jah-na
[name]Lillian[/name] - First thought -Great way to get to [name]Lily[/name] Not old lady to me at all.
[name]Shelby[/name] - First thought - car! The only [name]Shelby[/name] I have ever known was a boy.
[name]Olivia[/name] - First thought - Beautiful, lovely- can you tell I adore this name?
[name]Lillian[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] are my favorites followed by [name]Gianna[/name]. Still can’t see [name]Shelby[/name] on a girl.
[name]Gianna[/name] - meh. Sorry. I adore [name]Giovanna[/name], but I just can’t manage to get behind [name]Gianna[/name]. It’s an Italian diminutive, and unfortunately, it comes across as tacky Italian, like [name]Jersey[/name] Shore. It feels fairly trendy to me, as well. I adore the old-fashioned Italian [name]Giovanna[/name] for a full name, though, and I think [name]Gianna[/name] could be a nice nn, or even go straight to [name]Gia[/name].
[name]Lillian[/name] - adore! It’s classic, it’s beautiful, it’s feminine, it’s not so overly frilly that a tomboy couldn’t handle it. It’s perfect! I love meeting Lillians.
[name]Shelby[/name] - meh, quite dated to me, personally. Next thought is to laugh, because I’ve been catching up on [name]Hart[/name] of [name]Dixie[/name] lately, and there’s a very weird, eclectic [name]Shelby[/name] on the show.
[name]Olivia[/name] - first thought? Grin like an idiot, lol. I adore [name]Olivia[/name]! It’s on my personal top three. I adore the connections to peace and [name]Shakespeare[/name], and I love the nns [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Liv[/name]/[name]Livy[/name]. It’s so sweet and yet it ages so well–it feels like a modern classic to me, even though a lot of people say they’re tired of hearing it. I would be tickled pink to have a little [name]Olivia[/name] one day. Then again, Twelfth [name]Night[/name] is my favorite Shakespearean play, and probably one of my top 5 literary works ever, so it doesn’t surprise me that I love it so much.
[name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Lillian[/name] are my favorites!
[name]Gianna[/name] - Cute for certain people. This names screams Italian to me.
[name]Lillian[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name, so sweet sounding, even if it’s pretty popular.
[name]Shelby[/name] - For a personal reason, I strongly dislike this name. I can’t judge it without thinking of that reason, so I have no true opinion of it.
[name]Olivia[/name] - Is a very cute name, and has a lot of nicknames. [name]Via[/name], [name]Liv[/name], [name]Olive[/name], etc.
[name]Gianna[/name] - is cute but also sounds pretty Italian. Which I think is fine if you have an Italian background, but if you don’t it might seem strange to family and friends…
[name]Lillian[/name] - Classic.
[name]Shelby[/name] - sounds very 90s to me.
[name]Olivia[/name] - its cute, but also trendy right now.
[name]Gianna[/name]- Beautiful. Italian, yes, but it doesn’t have to be used only by people with Italian heritage.
[name]Lillian[/name]- Very pretty and sweet. [name]Lily[/name] is pretty popular at the moment though.
[name]Shelby[/name]- This is probably my favorite from your list because it’s pretty, but not heavily used at the moment.
[name]Olivia[/name]- Such a beautiful name, but it’s so overused right now, I’d probably steer clear. Unless you can’t love anything else.
[name]Gianna[/name] - I love it love the nn [name]Gia[/name] or [name]GiGi[/name].
[name]Lilian[/name] - it’s sweet I went to school with a [name]Lilian[/name] who had a twin [name]Eleanor[/name]. I personally prefer [name]Liliana[/name]/[name]Lilianna[/name]. Nn [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Shelby[/name] - I love this name is so cute. Nn [name]Shelly[/name] or [name]Shell[/name].
[name]Olivia[/name] - I’m sorry but I hate this name with a passion. The amount of times I hear it where I live it gives me the shivers when I hear it now.
[name]Gianna[/name] - I don’t really like it. [name]Even[/name] though it seems very Italian I wouldn’t find it odd if someone used it without having any Italian heritage.
[name]Lillian[/name] - Pretty, and ages well. I like [name]Lillian[/name] so much better than [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Shelby[/name] - A little dated, but nice. It has a pleasant sound.
[name]Olivia[/name] - Vintage and pretty, but very popular, if that bothers you. I think of the Fringe character (who is kind of awesome, so that’s not a bad thing).
[name]Lillian[/name] - Love [name]Lillian[/name] so much! So classic and pretty, feel like it’s wearable on anyone.
[name]Olivia[/name] - Another pretty classic, though really popular at the moment. Love the nickname [name]Liv[/name]!
[name]Shelby[/name] - Very spunky, tomboyish name. It’s not really my style, but I do actually like it, don’t think it’s dated at all.
[name]Gianna[/name] - Sounds quite princessy to me, but I like the nickname [name]Gia[/name]… If you love it, go for it though, don’t think you need to be Italian to use it! It’s got familiar sounds and it’s easy to pronounce, people don’t need to be French to use [name]Amelie[/name] or Greek to use [name]Athena[/name] right??
