What is your name style?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, what kind of name style do you tend to lean towards?

On my list, I have boho-ish names like [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] and [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m], but then total classics like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Does anyone else find themselves completely stuck in the middle of themes/styles? What is your current style? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you expect it to change?

Id say mine is more vintage, classic, feminine for girls. I don’t know what my boy style would be but it’s definitely different to my girls. I love nature names too.

Boy names - [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] (To name a few!)

Girls - [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (To name a few!)

I’m never sure exactly how to describe my style, but I generally prefer melodic, vowel-heavy, “ethereal” names for girls. (There are some exceptions to this due to personal meaning.) I’m drawn mostly to girl names that end in “-a” possibly because growing up I always wished my name did. I also tend to like longer names (3 or 4 syllables) as firsts and/or middles for girls.

For boys my style is a bit different (obviously, ha). I tend to like softer sounding traditional boy names ([name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]) as well as nature-inspired names ([name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]). I also tend to prefer boy names that end in “-n” for some reason, but I guess that’s unsurprising since it’s such a trend these days.

I don’t think my style will change. I’m 25 right now and have always liked these styles of names so I’m pretty convinced I’ll be using them if/when I have children :).

In general I have a preference for unconventional nature and/or word names.

Romantic, international, & magical sounding I think. Clearly feminine & clearly masculine. My style hasn’t really changed over the years just evolved. I could see my taste evolving more but not drastically changing. I actually keep coming back to names I had on my list years ago.

I’m into biblical names and vintage, classic names.
I don’t see that changing, and that’s how my kids are named.

I’d say overall my taste leans toward traditional biblical/saint and ancient historical.

I tend to prefer dated names from the 1970s and 1980s but, I also love trendy, unisex names like [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] too. I guess there’s some crossover with dated choices like [name_u]Courtney[/name_u] and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] being so similar to [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] that they work well together, but others like [name_f]Heather[/name_f] or [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] are way off.

I have a few different styles, I think
For girls, I love soft-sounding, unusual names ( like [name_f]Annelie[/name_f], [name_f]Madelief[/name_f], [name_f]Alessia[/name_f] etc)
Recently I have started to really like ww1 era names like [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] etc

For boys I love Northern European and specifically Nordic names (like [name_m]Eirik[/name_m], [name_m]Lukas[/name_m], [name_m]Soren[/name_m] etc)

I don’t think I could even name my style.

Girls I tend to like very feminine but strong names, usually connected to mythology or ‘greatness’ in history, and they’re usually, but not always, pretty uncommon (at least where I am), [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] (pronounced EE-fa), [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] are my favourites at the moment.

Boys - I don’t think I even have a style. [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is my favourite name but my partner has completely ruled it out, apart from that I like [name_m]Eli[/name_m] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. Boys names are so much harder for me!

I would say a mix of eclectic/unusual, whimsical, vintage, and literary overall. But my girls veer towards mythology, and the boys towards international names.

I would say my style is very traditional. I have three rules for baby naming. 1. The name has to be in use for at least 100 years. 2. The name must be clearly feminine or masculine. 3. It should have one spelling and you should know how to pronounce it by reading it.

I much prefer androgynous names for girls: [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], [name_u]Landry[/name_u], [name_m]Berkley[/name_m], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
I like strong, masculine names for boys: [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_u]Paxton[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m]

[name_m]Uber[/name_m] traditional/vintage. My daughter’s name is about as exotic as I will ever be willing to go and that is only because my husband loved it so much. I would be 100% satisfied with a little brood named [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_m]Miles[/name_m].

My style is best described as all over the place! I like a mix of European names ([name_m]Mateo[/name_m], [name_f]Anoushka[/name_f], etc.), (new-age) word names ([name_u]Cloud[/name_u], [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], [name_f]Solstice[/name_f] etc.), mythological names ([name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], Finvarra, etc.) and British names, which Nameberry sometimes refers to as “Telegraph” names ([name_f]Jessamy[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] etc.), as well as some quite ordinary names like [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. My style is rather influenced by my surroundings, as I know someone with pretty much all of the first names on my list. Ultimately, my style is probably best summed up as eccentric, upper class British which basically serves as a catch-all term for how batty my style is!

I love unusual international choices (preferably with an obscure mythical tie) for both genders-- both of my children have this in common and I’d probably continue along those lines if I ever had more babies… I also love unusual nature and word names (bohemian vibes), usually in the middle spot, though both of my kidlings have family names in the middle

I guess the one thing that all of my favorites have in common is that they seem “bright” – I’m not sure if that makes sense? Haha! Like if my favorite names were colors none of them would be lavender, pale blue, or grey… They’d be bold, vibrant, vivacious colors with a very confident feel.

My favourite boy names are soft. Like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. I like them with a bit of spunk but still soft (like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u]). The fact they could be mistaken for a girl does not phase me (see [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] especially) because I still find them masculine.

But yet the girl names I love are a stylistic mess. I love names ending in the -oh sound ([name_u]Shiloh[/name_u], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]), bohemian/hippy names ([name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]) and then mythological names ([name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f]). The majority of my favourites are not in the top 100, but I do love a lot of top 10 names ([name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is one of my favourite names). And then I love old fashioned names like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I try and keep my names as British-feeling as possible so I have names like [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Cerys[/name_f], [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] which feel very British to me.

Judged by my signature, my style has been described as classic with a slight fantastical twist. I’m still not sure how accurate that is, but I haven’t come up with a more accurate descriptor.

Magical, romantic, and yet natural sounding and easy to say. Almost all of my favorite names, both girls and boys, have connections to fantasy, mythology or literature. However, they are relatively short and easy to say.
For boys, it’s names like [name_m]Adrian[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Damon[/name_m] and [name_m]Sirius[/name_m].
For girls I love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_u]Hero[/name_u], and [name_u]Waverly[/name_u], to name a few.
When I look at my first and middle combos, there tends to be a balance: one of the names is more “magical” the other is more grounded.
Ex: [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_u]Hero[/name_u] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_m]Damon[/name_m] [name_m]Sirius[/name_m]…
I feel that when paired together, it creates a magical, romantic vibe, which is my style!

That’s though to answer, one thing is I like very distinctly masculine or distinctly feminine names. I like long names for both girls and boys. Most of the ones I like are a bit pretentious.
Girls- I like a lot of Southern feel names. As well as names with a lot of history

Boys- Irish/English surnames, along with some historic.
