What is your opinion on Sheldon?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the name [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s usable?

Too tied with The Big Bang [name_u]Theory[/name_u], imo.

It’s not one of my favorites but I do think it’s usable.

That was my first thought too.

I agree, but that’s one of my favourite shows so it’s extra tied to it for me. It’s not a favourite name of mine to begin with, though.

Big Bang [name_u]Theory[/name_u] and turtles are my only associations. I like both well enough, but neither is what I want tied to a name (and I say this as someone who LOVES the names [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]).

Yes, very tied to Big Bang [name_u]Theory[/name_u] for me too, even though I haven’t watched it. I do think it’s usable, though.

@leafsgirl44 another option for you?!

A bit tied to Big Bang [name_u]Theory[/name_u] for me, but maybe that’s because i don’t like the show. I don’t think it’s completely unusable though

I like it because I like little old man names a ton!

I do think that where I live (Northern [name_u]California[/name_u]) it would be a hard thing for a boy to be named [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u], between the name being nerdy and [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u] on Big Bang [name_u]Theory[/name_u].

Also the nns of [name_u]Shel[/name_u] and [name_u]Shelley[/name_u] are more often used for females so that could be an added burden.

What about [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]?

I’ve never heard of a [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u], other than the one from the Big Bang [name_u]Theory[/name_u].
It’s not unusable, but I can imagine the TV character being mentioned a lot.

I have never heard of [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u] other than the Big Bang theory so it might be a bit too tied to it.

Awe sheldon has a warm place in my heart, because of Big Bang. Please use it!

Too tied to the Big Bang theory and young [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u]

I do think of [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u] [name_u]Cooper[/name_u].

It’s NMS, but it’s certainly useable. I’m actually quite surprised that some people think it isn’t!

I may be biased because I know someone named [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u] decently well, a 7-year-old. No one has ever made any weird comments about The Big Bang [name_u]Theory[/name_u]. At the end of the day I think every name has some kind of association, some desirable, some not so much. One of my favorite names, [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], has been discouraged because of a certain murderess. Others feel negatively towards [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_m]Ted[/name_m], [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], etc, because of associations. All of these names are still in circulation without the blink of an eye!

Sorry, that was a bit of a long reply, maybe slightly off-topic to the thread’s initial question, but I thought it was relevant to the discussion.

Totally, thanks for your comment!

I absolutely love the name [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] too and asked a question about it, most people on here said they don’t see it in a negative way.

I don’t think [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u] from TBBT would be seen as a negative association but I was just wondering whether the association was the first thing people thought of.

It’s my uncle’s name, but the second thing I thought of was plankton from Spongebob, lol
