We thought we had settled on [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and I do love the name, the only thing that is holding me back is that [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] (and its alternative spellings) is pretty popular in the States. I also know 2 people that I graduated from high school with that named their daughters [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Madelynn[/name_f] within the last few months and one of them is pretty…well, let’s just say she isn’t a high class woman. We started throwing around other names and we do both like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] but when I picture a second daughter named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] I picture a little rebel for some reason We also like [name_f]Aria[/name_f] but that is also gaining popularity in the States, not to mention DD1 is named [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] so I’m not sure about having 2 A names and 2 (sort of) musical references. What do you guys think?
I totally picture [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] as a little rebel too! I wonder if it’s the R and B make the brain think rebel?
I think of ruby red too, either ginger curls and freckles, or dark hair, red cheeks and red lips.
I have only ever met one [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] in real life. I mean no disrespect, but she was a fairly plain and quiet person, I have few memories of her so I usually don’t even think of her when I hear the name.
While [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]/[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] etc is popular right now, its still a very pretty name. And it looks like you chose the proper french spelling as well. So props to you
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is nice as well…but also quite popular. So if you are trying to avoid a popular name…I wouldnt go for that either. And I’ve never been fond of “[name_f]Aria[/name_f]” personally.
Thanks for the feedback! From the social security website it is within the top 100 (or [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is, btw I loathe that spelling!), while [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is slightly outside of the top 100. I think I would feel better about [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] if it weren’t for the fact that I know 2 people that have used that name and one of them is pretty much white trash (sorry for that description but it’s the only way I can describe her). It’s the combination of that and it being ranked 67 (I think, this is from memory) that sort of put me off
I imagine a girl called [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] as someone very outgoing, popular, fiery and maybe a bit rebellious- but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is definitely suitable as a little sister to [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]. If you still love [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] would be lovely.
As for [name_f]Aria[/name_f], imo it’s too similar to [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]- three syllables, starting and ending in the same letter, and the musical references that you mentioned.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] has more spunk than [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f](and its alternative spellings)–I picture her a more creative, precocious child than a [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]…[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] are adorable together
haha [name_f]My[/name_f] husband also thinks that [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] would be a perfect name for a red head…he’s hoping she will have red hair because then he thinks the name would be perfect! [name_u]Red[/name_u] heads run in my family pretty heavily but not his so we will see.
I think of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] as a spunky (in a good way) brunette. Pretty, kind, and fun. I love the name and that it is vintage but modern sounding too. I would put it on my list but I have a son named [name_u]Max[/name_u] and there is that cartoon with the theme song “[name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u]…”
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] has thick rich dark brown hair that curls slightly at the end. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] wears bright red lipstick and has an air of mystery about her. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] leaves a lot of enemies in her wake, but has a tight knit group of friends. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] cares a lot about her looks, but she does hold her education high as well. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is not magical, [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is firmly planted in reality.
On another note, don’t worry about popularity! It all depends on the region. I never met another [name_f]Cate[/name_f]/[name_f]Kate[/name_f] until this year and it’s supposed to be pretty popular. Though [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]/[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] are extremely popular where I am. A name can be #1 and your daughter/son might never meet someone else with that name. So don’t fret too much.
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] is pretty but I agree that it is too close to [name_f]Allegra[/name_f].
