What kind of name do you have?

My name is pretty unusual. I’ve only met one other [name_f]Keeli[/name_f] and she was a brand new baby, while I’m in my 20’s. My middle name is made up (MaKae) because my mom wanted to use [name_f]Kae[/name_f] after my nana’s mn, but [name_f]Keeli[/name_f] [name_f]Kae[/name_f] sounded silly to her. The only annoying thing is that my first name never gets spelled or pronounced right. I always get [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], [name_f]Kylie[/name_f], [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], etc.

I have a Biblical Hebrew name that was pretty uncommon when I was born (late 80s), but has since become more popular and is currently extremely popular in the US, and fairly popular in the UK although it peaked a while back and is now falling. My parents were somewhat trendsetters, I suppose. I guess this means I have a name that sounds ‘young’ for my age, although I haven’t really thought about it too much. From my perspective I do not have a common name, although technically I know that it is common among kids and teenagers - it’s just that I don’t really know many kids or teenagers at this stage in my life. It is not common among my own age group, or among people older than me. I have only met two other people with my name in my life. I do not consider that it will be dated on me because I was born before it got popular so I don’t fit the stereotypical age for the name. I think it will make me sound younger than I am! I think it probably will sound more stale on people born when it was booming.

My middle name is a classic, French but ultimately from a Germanic source, and with a long history of English usage. I like it a lot more than my first name. It was fairly common as a first name when I was born, and is on the downswing in the UK (although rising fast in the US).

Neither of my names are that international (a little bit, but not much), which I find a bit annoying since I did not decide to live in an English-speaking country. They are nice for the UK, though. I like how they sound together. I really like my middle name, and my first name is all right, I’m not too fond of it but the short version that I use is OK.

My name is [name_f]Evening[/name_f], so I guess you can say it’s a nature name, sort of. My mother thought [name_f]Eve[/name_f] felt incomplete. Also, she says that while expecting me she would sleep during the day and be awake during the evening and night, because I would keep kicking her so much that she couldn’t sleep. My middle name is pretty classic and old-lady-ish… [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. My mom’s favorite movie growing up was the [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] and it still is today.

I have an ethnic name that’s common among Jews but seems pretty exotic (in a good way) to pretty much everyone else - [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]. I think it’s consistently ranked around 2000-3000 in the US. I like it but never thought much of it until I was in high school or so and started running into lots of people who gushed over it. Now i appreciate it even more! I do think it suits me really well.

Rare. Sometimes I wished for a timeless classic, but now I think my name suits me.

I have a co-worker named [name_u]Keely[/name_u]. 30-something.

[name_u]Lucky[/name_u] you, [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is so beautiful!

I have a something else name, [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f] (pronounced same as [name_f]Tawny[/name_f])
I love it. Loved being the only one in my class and always get compliments! I was born in the late 80s but my name def does not say 80s.

I have a short, classic name. It’s very common as a middle name, but almost never used as a first (except in my country where it’s the most used first name for women ever, but it’s rarely used these days). My middle name is very common in my country and extremely rare elsewhere.

My name is [name_f]Carly[/name_f]. When I was growing up (born in the 80s) I was the only one in my school until my junior yr. in HS, then there was one younger than me. Now I’ve met a bunch! My sister is [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] so I’ve always liked having a more unique, but nit crazy out there name. The only thing is I wish I had a nickname, although my husband and some of my family call me “[name_f]Carly[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]” (first & middle)!

My first and middle name is [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] [name_u]Dale[/name_u]. I have always loved my name and I love its uniqueness. My parents wanted a western name since they were very active in Rodeo and came from ranching families. I never knew anyone else with my name until the 90’s (I was born in 1980). I have to admit, it was kind of annoying to see its popularity grow. My middle name is [name_u]Dale[/name_u], after my father.

[I chose my entire name. I’m transgender.]

First name - [name_u]Scout[/name_u]
A word name that also happened to be the TF2 class I play as. Plus, here in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], I wouldn’t have to worry about being called “girl scout” or anything.

Middle name - J
Yep. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a letter. Maybe represents my indecision, but I’m not sure.

Last name - [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
A name I liked and was considering as a first name.

My name is [name_f]Amy[/name_f]. I like to think of it as an 1800’s and classic literature name due to it’s popularity on the 1800’s and it’s use in the [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] novel [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women. ([name_m]Little[/name_m] Women also happens to be my favorite book so yay mom that worked out great)

My middle name [name_f]Megan[/name_f] I think of as a trendy name. It was very popular in the 1990’s when I was born. It was then see as an update on [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and has died down now. I like the name, but I’m very gald it’s my middle name and not my first as I know [name_m]WAY[/name_m] TOO MANY named [name_f]Megan[/name_f]/[name_f]Meghan[/name_f].

My name is [name_f]Edith[/name_f], which is very old-fashioned. My middle name’s [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], a classic that I feel balances out the clunkiness of my first.

I’ve always loved the uniqueness and vintage feel of my name, but it’s hard to pronounce in the non-English speaking country I come from, so I’ve had trouble all my life trying to get people to spell and say my name right.

Now that I’m in the US, I’ve had people comment on how pretty my name is, and that it was refreshing to meet an [name_f]Edith[/name_f] my age (I’m in college).

I changed mine because the name I grew up with drew too much teasing, and I also didn’t like that it was gender-neutral. In fact, it used to be more common for boys than girls, and now that it’s out of style for girls, it’s coming back for boys. I wanted a name that would leave no doubt I’m female.

I named myself [name_f]Raya[/name_f] Lanelle, different versions of the middle names of my maternal grandparents, which were [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] and [name_f]Elaine[/name_f].

The biggest regret I have now is that even people I’ve known for years want to call me [name_u]RAY[/name_u]-ah, no matter how many times I tell them I pronouce it [name_m]RYE[/name_m]-ah. I tell them things like, “[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] without the Ma.” “[name_u]Ryan[/name_u] without the N.” “Like [name_f]Maya[/name_f], but with an R.” “Rhymes with [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], not with [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m].” But they still forget. When they call and leave a voice mail, they’ve just seconds ago heard my husband’s voice on the greeting saying, “This is [name_m]Mike[/name_m] and [name_m]RYE[/name_m]-ah. Leave a message, and we’ll call you back,” and darned if they don’t say, “This call is for [name_u]RAY[/name_u]-ah…”

Grrr. Well, that’s my rant.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is the name I go by online as it’s my pen name, but my real name will definitely be timestamped to the year I was born. It’s trendy, unisex, but thankfully not misspelled :stuck_out_tongue:

my name’s [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], which is quite common where i live. there is another [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] in my class, but she goes by [name_f]Beatris[/name_f] or [name_u]Tris[/name_u]. i used to dislike my name when i was younger because everywhere i went, i met another [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. another annoying thing is that it’s never spelt right - i was recently sorting through my medical documents and the only time i saw my name spelt right was on the first certificate (on the day of my birth, filled out by my mom). i often get Beatricea, Biatricea, Beatricia, Biatricia, which is why doctors or teachers prefer to call me [name_f]Betty[/name_f] (which i hate, sometimes i even get Beti, which is the usual spelling in my country) or [name_f]Irina[/name_f] (my middle name). i know my parents wanted to name me either Denisa, [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] or Margaritte, so i guess i did get the best option in the end.

My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], so, very trendy and date stamped in the 80’s - 90’s (even though it does have usage back at least a hundred years - as a boy’s name). Although I’ve never met a whole lot of other [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s my age, maybe because I was born near the end of it’s reign. However, I’ve met a million [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]'s.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]- very classic and quite hard to date, I think. Could be a Victorian aristocrat, could be a newborn!

My name is [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f], while it’s now started to drop popularity for it’s original name of [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] now. I say I hate because of how popular it is, I’m classes with a billion other [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]'s. I really quite like it though, it fits me.

(The only thing I really hate is how people think they can call me [name_f]Soph[/name_f]. [name_f]Soph[/name_f] bugs me so much, my mum called me [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] because it couldn’t be shortened, so please don’t try)
