I’d love to hear your thoughts on what makes a name combination sound nice together (or not :D). I’m mainly thinking about first and last name flow, since that’s what you’ll use most often. Are there specific sounds that just automatically clash? Examples of names you’ve heard that flow nicely or particularly poorly? Thought this could be a fun discussion!
One thing that I know makes a difference to my ears with flow is syllables. A 3-2 syllable first and last name combination sounds better then 2-2. [name_f]Mara[/name_f] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m] vs [name_f]Marina[/name_f] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m]. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] just has a slightly better flow and lilt. This is not a big deal, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me if a name I loved was the same amount of syllables as my last name. It just sounds slightly nicer if the syllable count is different.
Also ending sounds. This is more of an issue for me. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] sounds far better then [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]. [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m] vs [name_f]Mara[/name_f] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m], in this case [name_f]Mara[/name_f] sounds better with the last name.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a few ideas that came to mind! I’d like to hear others thoughts on this too.
