What makes Piper trendy?

Am just a little confused by all the comments that [name]Piper[/name] is trendy? [name]Just[/name] wondering why people think that?!

As an aside: We now have our top 3 names. Siblings are [name]Kaia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], [name]William[/name] [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Kendell[/name]. What do you think?:
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Green[/name] ([name]Kaia[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Will[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name])
[name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] [name]Green[/name] ([name]Kaia[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Will[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name])
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Green[/name] ([name]Kaia[/name], [name]Luna[/name], [name]Will[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name])
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Green[/name]
[name]Luna[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Green[/name]

Thanks, [name]Dahlia[/name] x

[name]Piper[/name] was virtually unheard of until 1999, when it suddenly entered the top 1000 at #701. It’s been soaring up the charts ever since. It’s also a unisex surname name.

[name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] is my favorite.

The description here at nameberry says:
A bright, musical name that’s jumped five hundred places in about five years; popular with celebrities.

The quick rise in popularity and the use by celebrities could cause people to see the name as trendy. A name that rises that quickly may also fall away quickly in the future. This would cause people to be able to easily guess when a little girl named [name]Piper[/name] was born. To me, that makes it trendy. But trendy isn’t necessarily a bad thing, unless you’re going for something timeless or unusual.

[name]Piper[/name] is trendy because…

  1. It has had a meteoric rise in popularity
  2. It’s a celebrity name
  3. It’s a unisex name
  4. It’s an occupational name ending in “er”

I think [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] is the best sibling name for [name]Kaia[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], [name]William[/name] [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Kendell[/name]'s sister.

[name]Piper[/name] is trendy, but it is very cute and would be a great adult name and kid name. But, I think you should go with [name]Luna[/name]. Since [name]Kaia[/name] means “earth,” you would have an earth and a moon! [name]Just[/name] my opinion.

Also names that are used in tv shows about supernatural women are surprisingly good predictors of future name popularity
[name]Piper[/name], [name]Pru[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], and [name]Paige[/name] were witches on Charmed. The only one that hasn’t increased in popularity is [name]Prudence[/name].
[name]Pru[/name] was played by [name]Shannen[/name] [name]Doherty[/name] though so maybe that had something to do with it.

I know you are in the UK, so [name]Piper[/name] probably isn’t trendy there, (and [name]Harper[/name]…until now!), but in the US you can’t turn around without knocking over the hoards of little surnamed kids. [name]Piper[/name] isn’t horribly trendy in itself (I only know one, and she’s in her 30’s), but the whole group of -er surname names taken as a whole certainly is a trend.

Actually, I tend to view [name]Piper[/name] as modern rather than trendy. It’s a name that you didn’t hear too often until “Charmed” came along and it got a lot more common. It’s never reached the popularity heights of [name]Madison[/name] or [name]Mackenzie[/name] though, which to me is what defines a trendy name (something that comes out of no where and is all of a sudden in the top 10 for a decade, then kind of disappears).

Anyway, my favorites out of your combos are [name]Piper[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Luna[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name].

I’m definitely in agreement with phoebesmom, mischa and agirlinred. To me it’s the epitome of a trendy name: a surname on a girl, wasn’t really used as a name before the last decade or two, and shot up hugely in popularity during said decades. [name]Just[/name] like [name]Tiffany[/name], [name]Madison[/name], [name]Courtney[/name], and [name]Ashley[/name], it’s a surname that became very popular during a short period of time, and if you go by the previous four names, it’ll sound very dated in the near future. I mean, can you imagine a grandma named [name]Piper[/name]? I can’t, at all. But [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name], sure! I think both of those can fit any age, and I really like [name]Phoebe[/name] with your other kids’ names.

I agree with just about everyone else. It’s a surname, it’s unisex, it’s a celeb name, it’s very recently become heard of etc. And it ends in ‘er’.

Here in the UK I surprisingly [name]DO[/name] know a little [name]Piper[/name]. She’s 6 years old, from a lower class family and has a little sister named cringe [name]Scout[/name]. I do quite like [name]Piper[/name], though, I suppose. It’s far from my style, though and I know that I would never use it.

It is called Trendy only because it is not classic. It is not a nature name. It might be a word name though.

[name]Just[/name] a little bit of history on [name]Piper[/name]. It started with the actress [name]Piper[/name] [name]Laurie[/name], who had been in a number of plays, films, and TV shows and sort of dwindled in popularity. Since her name was a stage name, it never caught on. Then [name]Piper[/name] [name]Laurie[/name] made a comeback as the freaky mother in [name]Carrie[/name], and her popularity caught such that two things happened almost simultaneously: Charmed came out, with its [name]Piper[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] (hence the popularity of two very rare names) and [name]Gillian[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] of X-Files fame named her first daughter [name]Piper[/name]. [name]Piper[/name] has never been a last name per se; it’s used for bagpipe players in [name]Scotland[/name] and [name]Ireland[/name] so it’s a word name, rather than a surname. Because Charmed has a life of its own in reruns, the name (as with [name]Phoebe[/name]) continues to sound fresh to people who have never heard of either [name]Piper[/name] [name]Laurie[/name] or [name]Gillian[/name] [name]Anderson[/name].

I don’t associate [name]Piper[/name] with the lower classes, as I do with the TKAM names – [name]Harper[/name], [name]Atticus[/name], and (groan) [name]Scout[/name]. Maybe because playing bagpipes is a rare art?

If you like/love the name [name]Piper[/name], then you should use it. If you do not want to believe it is trendy that is your choice and you could argue that side. Your boys’ names sound traditional and your daughter’s name seems unique. [name]Piper[/name] would be a fine name as would [name]Phoebe[/name].
