What MN would you use for...

[name]Josephine[/name]?

I’ve been loving it lately (and the nn [name]Posey[/name]), but I can’t find something to pair it with. Everything I come up with seems too flashy/overpowers sweet [name]Josephine[/name] (like [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] or [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]) or it doesn’t have enough spunk to make [name]Josephine[/name] interesting ([name]Josephine[/name] [name]Elise[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Helena[/name]…). It seems like I pretty much prefer any MN I come up with as a MN for [name]Josephine[/name] as a FN ([name]Magda[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] over [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Magda[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] over [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] over [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Alice[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] over [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Clara[/name]… etc. You get the picture!).

I like the idea of a frillier MN (sort of like [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name]–[name]Isabelle[/name] feels a bit more laid back while [name]Aurora[/name] is more frills for me), but I don’t know how to get that without overpowering [name]Josephine[/name] in my mind, haha.

Any ideas, Berries? My highest candidate so far is [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]–I love that it means “God will enlarge wisdom”, and Sophia has personal significance to me, as well. I’d eventually add a family MN but I’m not sure which one yet…

And while you’re at it, wdyt of [name]Josephine[/name] itself? It’s been slowly growing on me and I absolutely love [name]Posey[/name], but I can’t decide if I love it more than some of my other favorites (like [name]Lydia[/name] and [name]Eleni[/name])…

Thanks!

ETA: I’m also considering [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Esme[/name], maybe. [name]Esme[/name] is a family name…

My best friend is [name]Adriana[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] and I think it’s SO gorgeous!

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Elisabetta[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Susanna[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Katerina[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Cassandra[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Alessandra[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Calliope[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Callista[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Linnea[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Annora[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Tabitha[/name]

Hmm well I know a [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name] and three Josies (just [name]Josie[/name], not short for anything) in my school so it feels kind of overused to me but I think this is a regional thing. The name itself isn’t bad. [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Esme[/name] is very cute.

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Aurelie[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Solita[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Mathilde[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] Floriane
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Arlette[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Florence[/name]
Josephine Olivia
Josephine Emily
Josephine Stella
Josephine Lenore
Josephine Scarlett

[name]EDIT[/name]: Wait a minute, [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Posey[/name] would be adorable! So different from [name]Josie[/name]! Good thinking!

DOUBLE EDIT: I second Josephine Sophia as well but I phear might be too phar much ‘ph’ in there. How about Josephine Sofia? It’s still an accepted variant, and it’d be the mn so she wouldn’t have to constantly spell it out. Even I just abbreviate my mn, lol.

[name]Josephine[/name] has always been one of my favorite feminizations. Plus it has cute nn’s  I hadn’t thought of [name]Posey[/name], but that would totally work and it’s adorable.

I think I had this same middle name trouble with [name]Ingrid[/name]. I think that was it, I’m pretty sure. Like, I just couldn’t make it fit with anything. [name]Josephine[/name] seems to be the same, it just depends on the name I guess

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Florence[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name] (kind of seems like a filler even though I love [name]Grace[/name])
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Hope[/name]

[name]Esme[/name] is good, and even better if it’s a personal thing for you

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is the combination on my list! The NN [name]Posey[/name] is adorable.
Some other MN suggestions:
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Diane[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Melody[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name]

Good luck!

Thanks, ladies! I’m happy that you all love [name]Posey[/name] as a nn for [name]Josephine[/name]–I’m always afraid people think I should use [name]Josie[/name] instead.

@amber - I lovelovelove [name]Aurelie[/name]! I’m just not sure about it after [name]Josephine[/name]–[name]Aurelie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] seems to work so much better to me, and I just love [name]Aurelie[/name] so much I wouldn’t want to hide it in the middle! I’m also not sure I should really use another [name]Ari[/name] name, since [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] are my top 2. haha. And I would use the nn [name]Ari[/name] for [name]Arianne[/name]. And it would easily be mispronounced, too…

@beebear - I love [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Iris[/name]! It’s going on the list, with [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]. :slight_smile:

I am falling in love with [name]Josephine[/name] as well and [name]Posey[/name] is adorable! What about [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] or [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Eleni[/name] so you don’t have to choose. I really really like [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Eleni[/name]! I think it can be really hard to pair [name]Josephine[/name] because it is the perfect MN! I have always had a soft spot for [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Alexis[/name] even though I am not a fan of [name]Alexis[/name] anywhere else. What about [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Camille[/name]? [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Cora[/name]? or [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Cadence[/name] (as a military connection for your family)? I really like [name]Josephine[/name] with a C MN.

I really like [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] is beautiful. I love the whole nn idea of [name]Posey[/name].

Other mn ideas:

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Ella[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Keziah[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Polly[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Rachel[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]

Would you consider [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]? I like the way it sounds

[name]Esme[/name] is just not a name to me and all the pop culture references are pretty unfortunate so it is totally unusable to me, sorry! I have never heard of [name]Esme[/name] being a family name, you must have some really interesting names to choose from then

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Waverly[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Bronwyn[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Hannah[/name] (really like this one)
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] (maybe a little F heavy but still so cute!)
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Adele[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Calla[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you like any of those?

Really there is no wrong middle name for [name]Josephine[/name]. But wih such a long name I Prefer a one syllable middle. My sisters name is [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Mae[/name] and I think it flows Perfectly

@thetxbelle - I do love [name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is so cute. I love it, and I absolutely love [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], but right now, my heart is with [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Posey[/name], so I would rather keep that the FN. BTW, how do you think [name]Esme/name would be received in [name]France[/name]? I’m just curious, since you always have something interesting to say on that front. I’ve heard that it comes from a French word meaning “esteemed” and was first used in [name]Scotland[/name] centuries ago (French influence from the Normans or something–I can’t remember all the details!). I was afraid [name]Esme/name (sorry, accents are too complicated on my computer!) would be one of those French “names” that stem from words not actual French names, and would therefore not be seen as quite so legitimate (think [name]Belle[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Jolie[/name], [name]Monet[/name], etc.) in a French person’s eyes.

@parkerbelle - you don’t think of [name]Esme[/name] as a name?! Why not? lol. It hasn’t been used a ton ever, really, but it has been in use for centuries and it has a lovely meaning. Yeah, Twilight’s not so great but I love the meaning and that it would honor my grandmother.

My first thought was [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]!

Personally [name]Esme[/name] just does not sound appealing at all, no matter if it is Es-may or Es-mee, just yuck but that is another story lol. It lacks a real name feel, I am sure some people feel that way about my names, like [name]Lane[/name] but it just feels so much like a NN or an expression but just not a name. It sounds like what people say when they sneeze, so its like a sneeze pretending to be a name though that is strictly opinion use if you love it. Twilight is not my cup of tea but that particular association is not so awful. There are other pop culture [name]Esme[/name]'s that I really cannot stand as well. I thought you meant that your family member’s name was actually [name]Esme[/name]! I don’t consider it honoring unless you use the exact name or a similar variation. When I hear about people using birth flowers and stones and name meanings to honor people I think it is insane I could never keep all that straight with everyone feeling equal and like their name was special enough to use but to each their own
