I used to really dislike [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] honestly I just used to hear Jew nipper which is weird especially as someone with Jewish heritage however now [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] has really grown on me. I actually really like it. I think it’s sweet and upbeat
Similarly I used to love [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] for a boy but now it’s not my thing at all. I still like [name_u]Mack[/name_u] sound but prefer [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] any day.
So I was wondering what names have you done a complete u turn on? Any reason as to why?
I used to love the name Violet, now I absolutely can’t stand it. All I hear is “violent.”
I also used to really love the names Oliver and Theodore, and I’m just not a fan anymore. Really not sure why. I do still like Theo and Teddy.
However, I never really liked the name Georgia, and this year it’s started to be one of my favorites. Same with the names Jeremiah, Bridget (though I prefer Brigid or Brighid), and Wallace, all of which I now really like.
I was utterly obsessed with the name Linda as a kid, and now I’m utterly not. Also used to love really quirky and misspelled names like Raelyn, Bailie, Massie. Now I much prettier classic, vintage, simple names like Rose, Peter, Henry, and Sarah!
me too! i had several characters named Raelyn, Jaelyn, etc when i was a kid. very much not my taste anymore
i used to really dislike Giovanni, until i realized that everyone was just mispronouncing it & the real pronunciation is much nicer lol. now, i love the look & sound!
i’ve always disliked uber popular names, but at the moment, i’m quite fond of [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] and Isabelle/Isabella. i also like old-lady/vintage names (Alma, [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], Sylvia) when i never cared for them before.
i’m sure there are names that i used to love that i wouldn’t like now, but i can’t think of any for the life of me! i do remember being 100% set on naming a daughter [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but now… definitely not as sure.
I used to swear up and down that my first born would be named [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and then a year or so ago I suddenly found [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] to be just an ok name, not disliking it but not feeling it was special anymore
I used to love [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] & [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. Then the boy names got too popular and ruined the spell and I just really went off the girl names- don’t like the sound of them any more.
On the other hand, I used to not like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and now I’m really starting to like it. Enough to put it on the contender list even though I know my mum and a couple of others in the family really don’t like it.
I don’t know why but I absolutely hated [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] when I first saw it - then I decided to name a character [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] and somehow i started to love it!
I used to like the name [name_u]Logan[/name_u] and now I find it very meh
I did not really care about Persephone at first, but someone had Thalia Persephone Kate in their signature (before the switch to Discourse), and the combo flows well, so it started to grow on me.
I used to love Laura, Maria, Channing, Tucker etc., but now I feel meh about them.
I used to dislike [name_u]Louise[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and now I think [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is really pretty and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] are real favourites.
I remember awhile back (~5 years ago?) one of my biggest naming struggles was that I had four favorite names - Dorothy, Florence, Theodore, and Felix - but if I used Dorothy I couldn’t use Theodore and the same with Florence and Felix. Now Theodore and Felix have become so popular I’m not sure I would use either in the first name spot. I still have Dorothy on my list, Florence is currently on the back burner as she’s lost a bit of sparkle but I still like the name.
Much before that I was into BNOG, elaborate spellings - Uriah (g), Marleigh, etc.
I used to really love names like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lacie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f], not so much anymore but i still think they’re lovely
I’ve recently found a love for [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] and [name_f]Giulietta[/name_f], which aren’t names i was fond of in the past but I do like now
I used to love long and frilly girl names like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], but lately I’ve been loving shorter and more spunky names like [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. I still love some longer names but currently short names are dominating the top of my list
When I was a child, I used to find [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] repulsive. As an adult, I love it, especially in the middle slot. [name_u]Reese[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is high on my list.
Others I used to dislike but have come to like or love include [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]. I am hot and cold on both [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f], but I think I will land on the positive side.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite names used to be [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]. I have cooled off on all of them. I do still have [name_u]Julian[/name_u] [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] as a combo on my list, but it keeps dropping lower. I also used to love [name_m]Abner[/name_m] and [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]. Now, I kinda hate both of those.
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - I didn’t see the magic or spunk before, but now I am obsessed. I think I connected it too much to [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] before, which was a little overused in my generation, but now my eyes have been opened to it
