What name should I use: longtime favourite or new love?

I’m pregnant with my first, a girl, but I don’t know what name to use. My long time favourite has been [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (I think since I was around 6 or so) and I still love it and feel like it suits her, but I’ve also been really loving another name throughout this pregnancy -[name_f]Celia[/name_f]- and I feel like it suits her just as much. Her dad is no help because he also loves both names. I think I’ll regret not using either one, but I don’t know which I’ll regret more. Any thoughts or experience with this?

If I were you, I would use your long time favorite, [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. You know your love for it has lasted over time and is not likely to fade. Plus, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. So pretty!

Personally, I would go with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]?
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Celia[/name_f] would be a possibility too, but it rhymes a bit.

I’d go with the long time favorite, since you know it has staying power.

That’s what I was thinking too, but every time I “decide” that something pulls me back to [name_f]Celia[/name_f]. I’ve been debating using it for a middle, but I kind of want to save it in case I ever have another girl.

Is middle name set? [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Celia[/name_f] would solve the issue…

I was kind of planning on using my middle name for her -[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]- but it isn’t set in stone.

Unpopular but if you can’t decide between I’d rule them both out. If one of them was the name you wouldn’t need us - you’d have already decided and would be on etsy looking at monogrammed blankets. You can always come back to them if you have more kids.

Suggestions -

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]

I’d go with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. I can’t look at the name [name_f]Celia[/name_f] without reading Celiac.

Go with the longtime favorite. You know you’ll still love it down the road.

Since [name_f]Celia[/name_f] came to you during this pregnancy maybe it’s the name meant for this baby? At least that’s one way to look at it. I will say that I searched through many names and ended up going with my long time favorite even though I find it a bit too popular. I don’t regret it.
[name_f]Imagine[/name_f] that this is your one chance to name a girl because the rest of your children are boys. Which one would you hate to lose if there was no “saving” it?
You could also take both names to the hospital and just go with your gut when you see her.

Longtime fav! But it may be helpful not to decide until you see her.

Tough choice! [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] was our longtime fave and we ended up going with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] when it just sounded right for her one day. You could wait until she gets here!

My golden rule is to always, always stick with long time love. We may always fall for new ones, but names that stick for some many years? Those are really something.

I second the suggestion of [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Celia[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] — it sounds better with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] than [name_f]Celia[/name_f] (too many Ls) and it’s such a happy-making name: you can’t not warm to a [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]!

I also prefer [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] to [name_f]Celia[/name_f], personally find [name_f]Celia[/name_f] too quiet and high-minded.

I think you should use [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] now. You know you love it, and if you still love [name_f]Celia[/name_f] if/when you have another, you can use it then.

The long time favorite, for sure. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is an adorable name! So much better than [name_f]Celia[/name_f]…

I like the suggestion of using [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] now, since you’ve loved it for so long, and [name_f]Celia[/name_f] for a future child if you still love it then. If you’re hesitant about losing the opportunity (what if this is the only girl?) I would name her [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I think it flows really well and you get to use all of the names.

Thank you all! I think I’ll probably just decide once she’s here.

It’s a tough decision! I definitely agree to wait until you meet your baby girl and decide then.
I was so set on a particular name (that I’ve loved for years) for my second baby. At 37 weeks, I just felt we needed to look at other names. We found another name and when she was born, just knew this name was hers. I don’t regret my decision at all. Thinking about the original name we picked, my daughter just does not fit it at all!
