What names have we missed?

@readingreverie[name_f][/name_f] aw, this was so lovely to read! I love researching and find out about all the names you suggest!

[name_f][/name_f]

@persephonescrown[name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Liliwin[/name_m] is so cool! Laenan is intriguing [name_f][/name_f]- sorry to have to ask (and I will try to dig a bit deeper tomorrow) but does the book series say anything about the character’s name? is it used as a masc, fem, neutral name in the fictional world?

Ermonela (fem.) [name_f][/name_f]- I don’t know the etymology, but the name is of Albanian origin. Ermonela Jaho is a celebrated Albanian soprano.

Calathea, a genus of plants, coming from a Latin word for basket
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Not[/name_m] sure that it’s actually used as a name, but I thought it would lend itself to some sweet nicknames like [name_f]Callie[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f]

It’s okay no worries at all! It’s a masc name and he’s a wizard. That’s all I know myself (it was recommended by a friend). [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that’s okay!

@persephonescrown[name_f][/name_f] that’s great! I have a starting point now :slight_smile:[name_f][/name_f] thanks!

Button (u): [name_m]An[/name_m] unusual surname given as a first name to Button Gwinnett. He was the second person to sign the Declaration of [name_f]Independence[/name_f] and Button was his mother’s maiden name. These days, Button could work for both genders, although it is probably best if it’s given to pets and not human children.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Canada[/name_f] (m): A place name that is only in the Database for females, even though it is occasionally given to males. [name_f]Canada[/name_f] [name_m]Lee[/name_m] was an eminent twentieth century African-American actor and Civil Rights activist. He was born [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_m]Lionel[/name_m] [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] Canegata, but when his surname was mispronounced as [name_f]Canada[/name_f] [name_m]Lee[/name_m], he adopted that as his name.

[name_f][/name_f]

Greenleaf (m): [name_m]An[/name_m] [name_f]English[/name_f] nickname (and possible surname?), used as a first name for Greenleaf Whittier [name_m]Picard[/name_m], who was a pioneer of radio communications and invented, among other things, the crystal detector. He was named after his great-uncle, the poet [name_m]John[/name_m] Greenleaf Whittier.

[name_f][/name_f]

Whittier (m): [name_m]An[/name_m] [name_f]English[/name_f] surname that could very well work as a first name. Its meaning is unknown. A famous bearer is the aforementioned Greenleaf Whittier [name_m]Picard[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

Nunnally (m): Probably derived from the surname Nunnallys, Nunnally has an uncertain meaning. Nunnally [name_m]Johnson[/name_m] was a Hollywood screenwriter and director who won an [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] for his screenplay of [name_m]The[/name_m] Grapes of Wrath. Nunnally was his father’s middle name.

@GeographyDragon[name_f][/name_f] I love Whittier! I’m so surprised it’s not on NB. Between a lot of names associated with [name_m]California[/name_m] being popular (Sierra, [name_m]Francisco[/name_m], [name_m]California[/name_m], [name_f]Marin[/name_f], etc.) and similar names like [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m], it’s a great alternative!

Adding to this, it was used for a female character in Code Geass[name_f][/name_f], a Japanese animated series; so it may technically be considered unisex(?).

Cool! I’m not familiar with that series, but I believe it could. I actually thought it looked kind of feminine myself, but the bearer I found was male, so I listed it as just male.

[name_f][/name_f]

Thank you for saying something, as I enjoy learning all about the names I suggest and I would never have known Nunnally had been used for a female if you hadn’t!
