Today I was thinking about all the new names I’ve been exposed to from other Berries and was wondering what names have others learned about on the boards or site in general?
Here’s mine that I can think of so far I’ll update as I think of some
Boys:
[name]Arthur[/name] (never really gave much thought to it before)
[name]Fletcher[/name]
[name]Kieran[/name]
[name]Kellan[/name]
[name]Locke[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Stellan[/name]
I was introduced to two names on the forum that I have fallen so much in love with, they have made it onto my short list:
[name]Zoya[/name] --husband doesn’t care for it
[name]Milena[/name] – husband actually likes it!
My problem with [name]Milena[/name] is the sudden extreme popularity of the nickname [name]Mila[/name]. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Zoya[/name]–I consider it not quite in my top three, but it’s definitely my fourth top name!
Girls: [name]Mazarine[/name], [name]Madigan[/name], [name]Corisande[/name], [name]Snow[/name] and [name]Winter[/name]
Boys: [name]Halloran[/name] and [name]Wilder[/name]
[name]Wilder[/name] is more than likely the name I’ll use for a son. I would love to use [name]Winter[/name] for a girl, I adore it. But I live in Alaska and a girl named [name]Winter[/name] from Alaska is just a little too much imo.
Funny, I was just thinking about this too. I am sure there are a few for me but the one that specifically comes to mind is [name]Romilly[/name]. However I don’t think I’m spelling it right. I keep seeing it, I believe for a girl. Am curious where it comes from and if anyone has ever known anyone with the name. (Also how to spell it.) It sounds irish to me.
Answered my own question. After posting got curious to look up on my own and found this from the site:
“[name]Romilly[/name]”
By definition a male name springing from the [name]Roman[/name] twin [name]Romulus[/name], this attractive name was introduced to the English-speaking world by painter [name]Augustus[/name] [name]John[/name] who used it for his son. [name]Romilly[/name] [name]John[/name] became [name]Admiral[/name] of the [name]Fleet[/name] in [name]England[/name]. A French surname from the twelfth century on, it’s more recently been heard as a girls’ name; [name]Emma[/name] [name]Thompson[/name] used [name]Romilly[/name] as her daughter [name]Gaia[/name]'s middle name.
I was introduced to [name]Camden[/name] and [name]Jude[/name], I adore these names and [name]Camden[/name] is a nice alternative for [name]Cameron[/name]. For girls names, I’ve been introduced to so many new names! Here are a few I’ve discovered on here, or only now realising my love for them;
Without a doubt the Berries introduced me to the idea of [name]Weston[/name] as a mn. My daughter has my mum’s name as her mn and my son has my husbands grandfather as his mn. So #3, if a boy, will reflect my side of the family. However, I’m not at all keen on my dad name or my paternal grandfathers name! However, my maiden name is [name]West[/name]. And thankfully the Berries introduced me to name [name]Weston[/name] which I love. With this option, I can cover off all the men on my side of the family and everyone will be happy
Hmmm…I’ve had names that I knew of but definitely grew on me after seeing them on the forums a lot. Here are some I can think of right now.
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name](I used to really dislike this and [name]Eliza[/name] and now I really like them!)
[name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name]( I know its popular, but I’ve personally only met one little [name]Sofie[/name]/[name]Sofia[/name] and know of only one other. I never liked it before
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name](also was on the brink of liking this one and seeing it here on forums and sites pushed me over:) )
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
Again most of these are familiar names I’d heard before but never liked until nameberry!
Nameberry has introduced me to so many names. Off the top of my head:
Boys
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Walden[/name]
[name]Wilder[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Hawthorne[/name]
[name]Bastien[/name]
I also enjoy learning about Greek names, and Welsh and Irish ones as well.
I have a huge list, but here are some at the top of my head:
[name]Imogen[/name]-I’d only ever use [name]Imogen[/name] as a middle (I think it’s a little too British for the US, if that makes sense) but I still love it nonetheless.
[name]Louisa[/name]-I knew about the name, but I really fell in love with the name after being on NB.
[name]Adeline[/name]-I was familiar with [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name], but I have come to love [name]Adeline[/name].
[name]Olive[/name]-Like with [name]Louisa[/name]/[name]Adeline[/name], I knew the name about the name before, but I adore the name now, even though it’s still a love or hate name for most.
[name]Posey[/name]-[name]Just[/name] the name [name]Posey[/name], but also as a nickname for [name]Josephine[/name].
[name]Asher[/name]-I was familiar with [name]Ash[/name], but not [name]Asher[/name]. Now [name]Asher[/name] is on my list!
