What names were you surprised to see in the top 1000?

[name_u]Cataleya[/name_u] and [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] took me off guard in the top 1000 in 2016. What names were you surprised to see on there?

[name_f]Charlize[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Dixie[/name_f], [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_f]Judith[/name_f], [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], [name_u]Dana[/name_u], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], [name_f]Brenda[/name_f], and [name_f]Martha[/name_f].

I expect [name_f]Charlize[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] only to be popular on here. The others seem very dated to me.

I thought [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] would be much higher.

Let’s see:
[name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] (persistently popular for decades)
[name_u]Royal[/name_u] (popular in the 1800s, making a comeback)

Royalty was pretty shocking. It made its debut on the list at #532!

Old names I didn’t think were “vintage” but rather frumpy
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]

@mimiottawa [name_u]Royal[/name_u]… man…

@tamparays8 They do seem dated.

@aliciadawn - most of your “um what” section is just Spanish or Arabic names. Those are actually pretty common in my town and NYC because a lot of immigrants live here!

For me, I was surprised to see [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. I didn’t think that trend spread that far outside of Nameberry.
