What names you love, but are too unusual for you to actually use?

We have a girl thread like this, now we have a boys thread…

I would say for me such name is [name_u]Nebula[/name_u].

The starred ones are names I would consider if I lived in a country where they are used, but I think are too uncommon to use in the USA.

Iskandar
[name_m]Cymbeline[/name_m]

I’d probably still use these names anyway but they are a bit more unusual than my other name loves.

[name_u]Sabbath[/name_u]
[name_m]Diggory[/name_m]

Some of these aren’t too strange but for my family it would be like hearing a new language so they’re out of the question!

@Sorceress, probably most of the names on my UC (especially for boys) but I am refusing to give up on any of them yet and so won’t post them here

Wildflower as a fn- I love it so much and I’m so happy seeing it used, but I don’t know if I’d have the courage to myself!

Ambrose
[name_u]Oleander[/name_u]
[name_u]Florian[/name_u]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_u]Pippin[/name_u]

Too many! I might still consider some of these for middles, but definitely not firsts.

Mars, [name_m]Zuma[/name_m], [name_u]Banjo[/name_u] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] for boys and [name_u]Lux[/name_u], [name_f]Jedda[/name_f], [name_u]Prairie[/name_u], [name_f]Lua[/name_f] and [name_u]Tempest[/name_u] for girls. Two unusual ones high on my list for a boy that I would use are [name_m]Elio[/name_m] and [name_m]Miro[/name_m].

Seafarer!

There are lots. I am a very conservative (boring) named compared to many on Nameberry.

Atticus
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] (love the NN [name_u]Dash[/name_u])
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]

[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_u]Maddox[/name_u]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]

I actually know a female [name_m]Altair[/name_m]! Had never noticed it was a male name too

I like the idea of unusual names, but there are a few that people in my neck of the woods (midwest U.S.) would constantly pronounce wrong.

Basil-I like Ba as a ‘bag’, but people in the U.S. would say ‘[name_u]Bay[/name_u]-zuhl’.

Colm-my shining star favorite boy! It just doesn’t sound right unless said w/an Irish accent though. :sob:

Gustav
[name_m]Gaston[/name_m]
[name_m]Link[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_u]Pippin[/name_u]
[name_u]Kirby[/name_u]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
[name_m]Bastien[/name_m] (which for some reason in my head i pronounce [name_m]Bas[/name_m]-tee-en and not like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m])

Also agree with [name_u]Basil[/name_u] if pronounced Bah-zil and not [name_u]Bay[/name_u]-zil

Lowell. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning, but not always easy to say.
[name_m]Skyden[/name_m]. Pretty much fake.
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. It’s getting more popular, though, so who knows.
[name_u]Cove[/name_u]. I fear Covid may have ruined it.
[name_m]Junius[/name_m]. I think it might just be a bit too old, in a way that’s not coming back in.
[name_m]Cassander[/name_m]. Same as above.
[name_u]Poe[/name_u]. Perhaps as a middle name.
[name_m]Wystan[/name_m]. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] whimsical.

Perseus and [name_m]Osric[/name_m]… Would probably be looked at as though I’m a space alien if I were to use them here.
