Imagine there’s been some kind of (non zombie) apocalypse. But, there’s been time to rebuild. Plants have overtaken a lot of manmade structures. Now, there is a lot of gardening and people sharing their skills. A strong sense of community and survival, and depending on each other to get by. Maybe there’s no more electricity.
What do you think naming would be like in this fictional future? What styles of names would be popular?

i think honor names would be a big thing, but rather than honoring a person directly (grandma rosamund → baby rosie), people would honor their memories. maybe grandma rosamund loved chocolate chip cookies, and every time she made a batch she would send a few to every household in the family. maybe the bags she put the cookies in would always be tied with a violet ribbon. so, to honor grandma rosamund, the baby girl is called violet.
nature-y names definitely seem like they’d be popular, but longer, warmer ones (tesni, apricity, alpenglow)
i can definitely see cozy nicknames being a thing, maybe something along the lines of freddie or pippa.
cozy names in general, i think, would also be popular. names that are like the feeling of sitting inside, by a fire, with a hot drink as it’s storming outside. hazel, frederick, bernadette.
i feel like people would think a lot more about the meaning behind their children’s names. each kid might be given names that have deep meaning for their parents and for the person they hope the child will grow into.
i hope some of this helps!

I also think place names from the past would be popular. I’m thinking [name_u]America[/name_u] from the Selection, but also things like
City, travel, elegance, etc. those are terrible examples, but just the idea of things they miss that they don’t have anymore

Oh, cool! The answers you received are helpful too
I think without a global information network (and the ease of research and discovery of names that comes with it), people will be inspired by bits of culture that are passed to them from songs, stories, maybe books, religious names, historical figures or places. Naming styles might be more highly localized again. Otherwise, they may use names of people they’ve met or family members or friends. I think there might be a mix of bohemian names from nature, words, or values. However, I also think highly traditional names that have stood the test of time might also be popular.
I honestly think you could credibly go in a variety of directions. Starting new, very local communities where modern day culture and norms have been fractured can give you a lot of wiggle room.
Great question!
