What’s your thoughts on the name France for a boy?

I was going through my family tree and I came across my great grandmother’s name [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but I decided to drop the “s” and go with [name_u]France[/name_u]. And yes I understand that [name_u]France[/name_u] is the name of the country but untimely the name would be derived from my maternal great grandmother’s name. But I don’t know what do you think?

I love it! It’s a nice twist
I tend to love unique names and my baby’s name is also a city in some countries I don’t think that should stop us from choosing it

Another option is [name_u]Francis[/name_u]

Its very unique. I think it could work since youve got the similar [name_m]Lance[/name_m] and others. Feels very tied to the country for me.

Hmm interesting

For a boy, not. OK for a girl.

I think it’s useable, but I’d expect he’d get a lot of comments about the country or people asking him if he has [name_u]French[/name_u] heritage. I don’t think it’s a huge deal but it could get a little annoying after a while.

It’s certainly a unique name though.

I think it’s nice! It has a nice sound and to me feels pretty unisex. Another option is [name_m]Franz[/name_m] and [name_m]Frans[/name_m] which I pronounce almost identically

Nope.

I though the name [name_u]France[/name_u] would a unique twist on my great grandma’s name.

Hmmm I don’t like those spellings it just seems incomplete also it doesn’t really say that “this name was derived from Frances” to me

I think it has a nice sound! it reminds me of [name_m]Vance[/name_m], very tied to the country though, i prefer it as a nn for [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

I don’t like it. It would be like someone naming their child [name_f]Canada[/name_f] or Mexico.

France is already quite established as a girl’s name (rare now, but there were quite a few in older generations in France), what about the masculine equivalent Franz, the pronunciation is more or less the same

I think it’s alright! I second the opinion on [name_m]Franz[/name_m] being better, but [name_u]France[/name_u] isn’t bad. I also think [name_u]France[/name_u] is better than [name_u]Francis[/name_u].

I prefer [name_u]Fran[/name_u], [name_m]François[/name_m], [name_m]Frank[/name_m], or [name_u]Francis[/name_u]! The association with the country is too strong for me, personally. If it’s not for you, then I say go with the version you like.

Hmm ok i guess that could be a compromise but would still be pronounced the same way as the country

personally i like france! i’ve known boys named things like roman and it gives me that sort of vibe. maybe as a middle name if you’re nervous for the reaction? but i think if he ever gets questions he can simply say that it’s a tribute to a frances and nobody will have any problem. at least where i live in the united states, i doubt anyone would bat an eye!
