[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are stuck on two names for our daughter: [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. We would call he [name_f]Katie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] when she’s young.
Which do you like better? Anyone with these names have any pros or cons to these names we arent thinking of?
There might be downsides to any name, but I can’t think of anything obviously problematic. El- names are popular, so that may be a pro or a con for you.
I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] on it’s own is prettier, but [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is extremely overused and cutesy sounding so I maybe you could use a more uncommon nickname like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], Lisie, or [name_f]Lissy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] feels a little fresher and more unexpected than [name_f]Kate[/name_f] which I like! Although the previous posters already pointed out the huge popularity of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] could be a cute alternative!
I love [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]!
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] - [name_u]Super[/name_u] cute name! I would personally go for [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], as it suits my style better, but either is adorable .Love the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], one of my top names except I can’t use because of family.
If you don’t want such a popular nickname you could call her [name_f]Lici[/name_f], similar to [name_f]Lacey[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] - Don’t love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a stand-alone, personal preference, I like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] / [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] / [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f] better with nn [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a stand alone I also quite like.
If you want both [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Katie[/name_f], I would go with [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Katie[/name_f] when she’s young and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] when she’s older!
Both are lovely but I would choose [name_f]Kate[/name_f] because it feels like there are sooo many Ellies as it is used for several longer versions (Eliana, [name_f]Elara[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], Ella……). Another consideration is that once someone is known by their nickname as you intend to use while she is young, it will be very difficult to get people to drop the nickname and start calling her by her full name whereas transitioning from [name_f]Katie[/name_f] to [name_f]Kate[/name_f] when she is older seems natural.
