I have posted several times lately as we are down to the wire and still undecided on a name. My original love was [name_f]Ava[/name_f] but I found the name [name_f]Avie[/name_f] while looking for something similar to it. While I love [name_f]Ava[/name_f] I don’t love her popularity so I thought [name_f]Avie[/name_f] was a cute twist on the name I love and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] which my husband loves. I would want it pronounced A-V…so what spellings would you recommend? Spellings I have seen include:
I think [name_f]Avie[/name_f] or [name_f]Avy[/name_f] get the pronunciation you want. With [name_u]Avi[/name_u] I think it could read as “[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-vee”
I would go with [name_f]Avie[/name_f]. It’s much more visually appealing and balanced to me than [name_f]Avy[/name_f]. Also I’ve always pronounced [name_u]Avi[/name_u] like it rhymes with mayfly, though I don’t know the correct pronunciation.
I think Avey makes a lot of sense for A-V, but so does [name_f]Avie[/name_f]. I think either one of those, at this point, I would read “AY-vee” automatically, even though, initially, I was reading [name_f]Avie[/name_f] as ah-vee.
My vote would be for [name_f]Avie[/name_f]. Like the pps, [name_u]Avi[/name_u] I would instinctively say [name_m]Ah[/name_m] vee. [name_f]Avy[/name_f] just doesn’t quite look right! I’m not sure why! [name_f]Avie[/name_f] I would think Ay vee when I saw it. It’s a cute name! All the best.
I think [name_f]Avie[/name_f] is the best spelling to get the pronunciation you prefer. Especially as it’s similarity to [name_f]Evie[/name_f] makes it recognisable. It is also the most aesthetically pleasing.
I think you should stick with [name_f]Avie[/name_f]. Since it rhymes with wavy, [name_m]Davy[/name_m] and [name_u]Navy[/name_u], you could spell it [name_f]Avy[/name_f], but [name_f]Avie[/name_f] is cuter and more balanced, visually. I would avoid [name_u]Avi[/name_u], which is a Hebrew boys’ name pronounced “ah vee.”
Thanks so much! I was trying to shorten it to 3 letters because we are planning on calling her by a double name and 3 letters works better for monogramming purposes! Lol! Silly I know. But I agree that [name_f]Avie[/name_f] looks better than [name_f]Avy[/name_f]…[name_u]Avi[/name_u] is definitely out the more I look at it.
[name_f]Avie[/name_f]. [name_f]Avy[/name_f] kinda feels awkward for me, although it’s so similar to [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] which I love. And [name_u]Avi[/name_u] feels incomplete.
