[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all, just wondering what style of name you think [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] is? Trendy/modern, classic/old-fashioned, chameleon name that could be either? I am probably deciding between [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] for my baby and my older boys have more old-fashioned names (Clement, Ambrose) so I’m wanting something that fits well and isn’t off in terms of style, but [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] is a meaningful name for us and I’m strongly considering using it. Any thoughts about nicknames for [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
It’s classic but usable today. It doesn’t come across as dated or stuffy to me. I think I’d go with [name_m]Adrian[/name_m].
Maybe [name_m]Adi[/name_m] ( like the letter “a” then dee"), [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_f]Ani[/name_f], or even just A.
I agree with saying that [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] is both classic and modern, definitely a name that everybody would recognize but not to the point of it being overused.
With [name_m]Clement[/name_m] and [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] sounds lovely! Not sure [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] would automatically be shortened to a nickname, but maybe [name_m]Adri[/name_m], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_m]Rian[/name_m], or [name_m]Ade[/name_m] could work?
I love [name_m]Adrian[/name_m], both classic/timeless yet modern and stylish. I love its straightforwardness, and really gives me cool, a little sporty, charming vibes. [name_m]Clement[/name_m], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] (!) and [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] sound like a perfect set!
Classic leaning and international - I think it works with Clement.
Nicknames for Adrian: Ree, Rian, Ian, Rain
It does feel a little more modern to me, because of its popularity in the last 20 years & the trendy -an ending, but it’s objectively a classic choice! I guess it just feels more like a modern classic than a timeless classic to me, compared to [name_m]Augustin[/name_m]. I do like [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] more with your other children’s names, but [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] can still work well with them if it’s your favourite!
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m] is a chameleon name to me; I love it and think it sounds great with your other names. It reminds me of [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] [name_m]Brody[/name_m]. We have a friend named [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] who is [name_m]West[/name_m] [name_f]Indian[/name_f]. He uses the nickname [name_m]Adri[/name_m].
I think it’s classic, but a little more modern than [name_m]Clement[/name_m] and [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. It’s not a perfect style fit, but not a bad one either.
I would say [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] feels a bit of a modern classic? I know middle aged men to young boys with this name. It is definitely timeless. I think he fits fairly well with your boys although [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] feels like he fits better to me.
Either option is lovely, though, and if [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] has special significance, I can understand wanting to use him!
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m] is high on my boy’s list partly for it’s versatility. I wouldn’t say it’s a “classic”, I’d say it’s well-established but not dated, familiar but uncommon - similar to how I would describe [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. I think it works well with your son’s names.
Although, [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] does have more of that old fashioned vibe that I get from [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Clement[/name_m], but that isn’t to say [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] would seem out of place. [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] has that softness that I get from your sons’ names also, which I don’t get from [name_m]Adrian[/name_m].
Eitherway though, I don’t think you can go wrong. Two lovely choices that match in their own way!
[name_f]Edit[/name_f] to add - nickname Dri/Dree? [name_m]Ari[/name_m]?
I like [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] a lot! I agree with others that it feels very flexible and … not exactly timeless, but close to it.
I actually really like it with brothers [name_m]Clement[/name_m] and [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] because they have a feel tied together as saints’ names (or names of popes). Not sure if that’s what you’re going for (Augustin fits into too) but for that reason they feel cohesive.
I think of [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] as old-fashioned (in a very good way)! It fits beautifully with your other boys. In terms of nicknames, a lot of the ones that come to mind are somewhat feminine, which obviously isn’t a bad thing–Addy or [name_f]Ady[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] would be super cute! Looking at nickname potential, [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] has a lot more obvious options for nicknames (Auggie, [name_m]Gus[/name_m], etc.) but either name is beautiful with the siblings!
I think [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] matches his other siblings better! Although, if [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] has special significance to you then you should use it. It still sounds nice with your other boys names.
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m] nickname [name_m]Ian[/name_m] is what I would go with
Take or leave advice as get out of scope but I would try for a non-A name especially right after [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] (so neither name) and use [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] (or whichever of the two is more meaningful) as a middle name. [name_m]Or[/name_m] go for something like [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] for a first but not A:
[name_m]Hadrian[/name_m] (I love this!)
[name_m]Dorian[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] (handsome!)
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (Gabe is so swoony)
[name_m]Sullivan[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (one of my faves)
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m] (meanings connect them)
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m] is traditional but underused. I can’t attach it to a certain decade, generation or epoch. That makes the name timeless, I believe. [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] is elegant and charming.
Both [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] and [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] go well with your oldest sons’s names. [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] style and vibe is similar to Ambr0se and C|ement, but [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] works well too.
As a nickname, I like A, [name_m]Ade[/name_m], [name_f]Addy[/name_f], [name_m]Rian[/name_m] or Dri.
