What the heck is my style?

I know everyone is sick of me making threads about my girls list but I think I’ve finally figured out my issue - I have no idea which style to go with. Whilst my boys list is very rustic preppy (preppy names that are more modern but not names you would be shocked to hear on an old man or an adult) whereas my girls list ranges anywhere from modern preppy choices like Scottie and Ripley to vintage nicknames like Betty and Connie. What style do you think my list is and what style do you think would work best for me? And if there’s not one style is there anyway to marry them all together?

You don’t need to give your style a name. Pick a name you like and go with it! [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t worry about what “theme” it fits.

I know I don’t necessarily need one I think it would be a lot easier to narrow down if I could find one.

Any other advice is appreciated and welcomed.

I think I kind of get what you mean. Not only does my boy style and girl style not really match, but a lot of the girl names I like don’t seem to fit together, either. Looking at your list, I saw of lot my likes in there. I know that if I ever had kids, I would want to give my daughters longer, girly names. With the sound of my first and middle name, I was sometimes mistaken for a boy, and my sister had it even worse, so I’d want to make sure it was obvious. That’s where my favorites like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] and whatnot come in. But when I’m not worrying about naming another person? I still like long, girly names, but also ones like [name_u]Harbor[/name_u], [name_u]Brighton[/name_u], [name_u]Tannis[/name_u], [name_f]Coral[/name_f], [name_u]Layne[/name_u]/Laine, [name_u]Beck[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_u]Doone[/name_u], [name_u]Adair[/name_u], [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], [name_u]Frost[/name_u], [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]. They pretty much just clash. I did do a couple things, though- I like [name_f]Lia[/name_f] a lot by itself, but it was a bit short, so that’s where [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] comes in. [name_f]Lia[/name_f] would be a nickname. [name_f]Coralia[/name_f] is just [name_f]Lia[/name_f] and [name_f]Coral[/name_f] put together. Added ‘line’ to ‘[name_f]Opal[/name_f]’, which I like, even though I know it’s a bit much, haha. [name_u]Laine[/name_u], I put on my boys list. I wouldn’t mind making a lot of the shorter ones into middle names. As long as the first names are all vaguely alike, I think middles can be anything, and even then, that’s just a preference of mine. Of course, I agree with kani_bee, but I also know that it can be frustrating, especially when looking for fresh names. Where to start? Everywhere, I guess! Both our lists are pretty eclectic, but a couple words that come to mind while looking at yours is ‘wholesome’ and ‘organic’. Not quite in a nature way, but still in a ‘down-to-earth’ sort of way, it’s hard for me to explain. Sorry, wish I could be more help!

The overarching theme I see in your combos is that you like to combine two different styles together. Like a modern place name with a classic name ([name_f]Alaska[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]).

Maybe it would help you if you separate your masterlist into categories (either modern vs. classic or you could do literary, biblical, place names, feminine, no-nonsense, nickname names). I don’t think you necessarily need to stick to one category–combining styles sometimes brings out the best in both names. Like for instance a nameberry member had a baby girl named [name_f]Betty[/name_f] Nightingale. It’s stunning and unexpected!

I don’t love the name [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] but the more I think about it the more I like the combo [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. It’s unexpected and kind of fun. [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is a good example of you combining two styles well! I would embrace your quirky, diverse taste!

I think that your girl names do have the preppy, rustic taste that the boys have. You just have some variety thrown in. Also, funny thing is that my name is [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] and I two of my sister’s names are on your list too ([name_f]Ansley[/name_f] & [name_u]Saylor[/name_u]). We have a [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Camden[/name_u] [name_m]Luke[/name_m] & [name_u]Saylor[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Thank you guys so much for your help! You have lots of good points and it’s given me quite a bit of insight.

Any more help is welcomed and appreciated.

I agree with one of the pp that your girls’ list is similar in a sense to your boys’ list in that it’s rustic and a little bit vintage. Also to me it has a distinct [name_u]North[/name_u] American feel since you’ve got your dash of virtue names, place names -ie/y/ey names and the occasional name that sounds like it could be derived from a European ancestor who was first to arrive to the States, and I have actually no clue where you’re from and I’m not at all American myself. Your boys list is indeed more preppy but also has its fair share of quite vintage and indeed rustic names, but there is the occasional combo where my first guess would be: British, if this makes any sense at all?

So I do definitely see some consistent themes in your lists.

Thank you! I’m glad you think there’s some themes!
