What to do when everyone else names your baby?

DH and I have always loved Ceci [name_f]Mae[/name_f] for our DD #3 but neither of us like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] as a full name (he doesn’t mind it but I just don’t like name that end in “yuh”) unfortunately the ENTIRE family is calling her “baby Ceci” and I can’t find a formal name for her that I like. I have started leaning towards our second choice name “[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] violet” which I also adore but not quite as much as Ceci [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. Seeing as we may only have one more child and it may not be a girl am I just being silly and should just go with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and get over it? I think I may have regret from not ever having my “Ceci” but I just don’t want to ever call her [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].

For reference- hubby refuses all other variants of [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] other than [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] which directly rhymes with our last name. I like [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] better but feel like it’s too mean to give her a “[name_f]Julia[/name_f] Gulia” name.

Oh and he won’t just name her “Ceci” she has to have a formal name. He prefers a full name where it’s not a stretch to get to the nickname

[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]? [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]? Or if you stretched it hard enough, most C names could be abbreviated to Ceci.

I know a few little girls called [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] who only have one G in their names ([name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gianna[/name_f], [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] and [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]…I’m a teacher, I know a lot of kids! lol!) I think any C name would work for the nn Ceci.

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]/[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]

There are a ton of options for Ceci names but I feel like you have probably looked at all of them. If none work and Ceci alone won’t do it, I would say maybe Ceci isn’t the perfect name for you after all. I know a lot of people do a “womb name” so I think it’s fine that your family is calling her one thing now and can change after she is born. Or if Ceci is that important to you, tell husband and make him agree to [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], or think of Cecilia as the compromise for the name you love.

Some more Ceci options just in case…

[name_f]Ciel[/name_f]
[name_f]Ceil[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Celestine[/name_f]
[name_f]Celine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cerys[/name_f]
[name_f]Carise[/name_f]

I agree that really almost any name that starts with a C can have the nn Ceci or you could find a name that has two C’s for instance
[name_f]Constance[/name_f]
[name_f]Clemence[/name_f]
[name_f]Cadence[/name_f]
[name_f]Candice[/name_f]

I think your best option is to just go with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] but the only other name I can think of was [name_f]Cybele[/name_f].

[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] and [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] begin with a C sound, so they could be an option. Also, [name_f]Selena[/name_f] and [name_f]Serena[/name_f]. Good luck!

What about [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]? I adore [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] & I think [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] aka Ceci [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would be such a beautiful name! Good luck naming your little one, go with your gut!

Like others said use a different name using a c sound. Like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_u]Macey[/name_u] or [name_u]Casey[/name_u] or [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] or something like that. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is nice

My suggestion is to go to the bar at the top of the page and click on “Names”, then “Search”, then in the area “Starts with” enter “Ci” and there are oodles of names that start with Ci. I think that any of those names would be suitable for the nickname Cici, which is so cute BTW. Also [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] would work well. Another suggestion is to give her a first and middle name that both begin with C and call her Cici. You love Cici so that is the one you should use and I hope you can find a full name for her that you love. Good luck!

You could do alliteration with two C names. Some examples: [name_f]Calista[/name_f] [name_f]Celestine[/name_f] “Ceci”, [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] “Ceci”, [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] "Ceci, [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Celestine[/name_f] “Ceci”, [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] "Ceci, [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] “Ceci”.

I would go the alliteration route.

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassie[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought: Sesi (seh-siy) means “sister” in Xitsonga (according to dictionaries and what I’ve been told. I don’t speak Xitsonga). I know children called Sesi, but the meaning also makes it a great “womb name” or nickname even even if you decide to go with a different name.
I think brother is ‘Buti’, if that’s a factor.
Xitsonga-speaking berries, please feel free to correct me if I have it wrong.

I knew a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] who went by Ceci. I know you like [name_f]Mae[/name_f], but the double C names often lend themselves to the nick name Ceci, so that might be the best compromise? If you can find a double C name combo you like!

I think the previous suggestion of [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is perfect!

I’m a little confused how to pronounce Ceci though-- are you saying SEH-see or SEE-see (CC)?

I’m not sure about Xitsonga, but I was in the [name_u]Peace[/name_u] Corps in Swaziland and in siSwati it’s [name_f]Sisi[/name_f] (like SEE-see) and Bhuti ([name_u]BOO[/name_u]-tee, like booty). But those are titles, not names, and it would be a bit weird to name a kid those titles. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s cultural appropriation and inappropriate to use these as names.

In MY OPINION, Ceci [name_f]Mae[/name_f] can stand on its own and I think I like it more than [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f].

[name_f]Araceli[/name_f] “Ceci” [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would be beautiful. [name_f]Araceli[/name_f] means “altar of the sky” and is pronounced ah-RAH-seh-lee, though it’s possible that some people put the stress on the third syllable, i.e. ah-rah-SEE-lee. [name_f]Araceli[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] are pretty together too.

I don’t like the spelling Ceci if we’re going for [name_f]Cece[/name_f] / Cici / CC. And I personally do not like Ceci or think is an appropriate full name for a human person. I think you’ve got a lot of good suggestions, but I think there are a lot of soft-c names we’re missing:

[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Celine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cerella[/name_f]
Cerina
[name_f]Ceres[/name_f]
Cerce, which is a bit out there, but still a very viable [name_f]Cece[/name_f] name (serk-see)
[name_f]Cimarron[/name_f]
[name_m]Cinna[/name_m]
[name_f]Cynthie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cindy[/name_f]
[name_f]Celie[/name_f] (see-lee)
[name_f]Cerise[/name_f] (seh-rees); french for “cherry”
[name_f]Ceres[/name_f] (SEER-eez)
[name_f]Cerrina[/name_f]

And non-C but still S sounds:
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_u]Sierra[/name_u]
[name_f]Serena[/name_f]
[name_f]Selena[/name_f]
[name_f]Sia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u]/[name_u]Sydney[/name_u]/[name_f]Sidonie[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Sistine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sima[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]

Others that work:
[name_f]Macy[/name_f]
[name_f]Marci[/name_f]
[name_f]Lacy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u]
[name_u]Quincy[/name_u]

My favorites besides Celeste would be anything in the last section. I think Cece (Ceci if you must) goes really well with those as a nickname.
