I know we’re fortunate to have several names that we both love, and could see ourselves using for our future daughter, but we just cannot seem to settle on which is the absolute best! We’re ttc, but no baby on the way just yet - I just can’t seem to keep from obsessing over the name. Is it best to try to pick just one name, or maybe we could just wait till we see our baby and see which of the three names feels right? I’m such a planner though, and just keep trying to pin it down to just one name. But about the time I decide which one I like best, I change my mind. So I would love some outside, unbiased, opinions of our top choices! We probably won’t share the names we’re considering with our friends and family, so I’d [name]LOVE[/name] to get some feedback on our little list! Oh, and the middle name will be [name]Diane[/name].
~[name]Eliza[/name]
~[name]Emmeline[/name]
~[name]Coralie[/name]
I love the way [name]Coralie[/name] [name]Diane[/name] flows. [name]Eliza[/name] seems like it might sound better with [name]Diana[/name] than [name]Diane[/name]. [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Diane[/name] is quite nice too. I think of the ones you’re considering, I like [name]Coralie[/name] the best!
All are nice, but [name]Eliza[/name] is definitely my favorite; it’s the most strong and interesting of the three names (and flows best with [name]Diane[/name]). [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Coralie[/name] are both a little too cute and precious, and [name]Emmeline[/name] will have pronunciation issues (does it end in “line” or “leen?”).
My favorite is [name]Eliza[/name], although I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Diane[/name] sounds better, with the nn [name]Eliza[/name]. [name]Coralie[/name] is ok, I do love the potential nn of [name]Cora[/name]! I don’t like [name]Emmeline[/name] at all. [name]Just[/name] seems trendy with all the other “em” names.
I think [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Diane[/name] flows best, plus [name]Eliza[/name] is my favourite of the three anyway, so for me its a no brainer! [name]Emmeline[/name] is nice too but so similar to all those [name]Emma[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Emilia[/name] & [name]Emme[/name]'s! [name]Eliza[/name] feels more distinct. Classic and literary but very sassy too. I love it!
I think they all go well with the mn and they’re all [name]Lovely[/name]. But, even if you think one flows better than the other, keep in mind that we’re focusing on the middle name, but in reality the rest of the world will be focusing on the first name’s flow with the last name. Or, all three together. So, if you truly love all three (and I can see why you would), I’d try to find the one that fits best with your last name.
And, if all three still sound good and you’re not in a hurry to get anything personalized before the arrival, I know a lot of people who picked out two or three names they loved and then waited to actually meet the baby in person. They all said that they knew Immediately which was the “right” one. I’ve even known people who thought they picked out the final name, but then when they met the baby, ended up switching it to another one that was at the top of the list!
As far as being a “planner”, I know what you mean. But, having 3 to choose from in the end after you see her, is a plan! I just wouldn’t let all of the names out there TOO much with close friends and family, that’s when it becomes easy for someone to hear the name and fall in love with it too. And if they know you’ve got more than one to choose from, they may not think twice about using one of your choices. If you’re really serious about all of the choices, it might really bum you out if someone close to you snagged it before you were able to use it. Or, not…depends on who it is and your personality (and if you’ve got pregnancy hormones surging through you at the time!). And, if you’re a little more bold than I am, you could make it clear to the child-bearing ones closest to you that the names aren’t up for grabs and you would be upset if someone used it. [name]Just[/name] something to keep in mind.
I would nix one for now and bring the others with you for when you meet her. This gives you a chance of being a little more certain on the name while not narrowing it down to a name that does not suit her.
I personally don’t think [name]Coralie[/name] flows well with [name]Diane[/name]. [name]Emmeline[/name] is beautiful, so that’s my first pick! [name]Hope[/name] this helps!
In my opinion, [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Diane[/name] sounds the prettiest and flows the best. I really love the combination. If you’re having trouble choosing, you could do as you said and wait until you have your daughter, and then see which she looks like. Or, you could both try writing them in order of preference, and see if there are any similarities…maybe you’ll both have the same favourite? I know though, it is SO HARD to choose a favourite among a list of favourites!! At least you have plenty of time.
Awww, thanks everyone for all the great feedback!! I love hearing that most of you like all the names - sets my mind at ease that we probably can’t really go terribly wrong with whichever one we pick in the end. To me all 3 sound great with the middle name [name]Diane[/name], and I think they all also sound fine with our last name, Maylerr, so that isn’t the main issue for us. I finely made a pros and cons list for these names this morning and that kind of helped a little, but they all had at least a couple pros and a couple cons. lol.
I love how girly and pretty [name]Coralie[/name] sounds, and love the nn options - [name]Coral[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]! I’ve liked this since I was about 15, and I still love it, so I have some degree of confidence that I won’t get tired of this name. Only slight drawback to me is that someone on nb mentioned it rymes with orally, and now I worry that other people will immediately see that. ???
[name]Eliza[/name] is a fairly new addition to our list. I came across it here on nb one evening, and when I mentioned it to my hubby, he really liked it! Since then it has really grown on me, and is competing for 1st place in my mind with [name]Coralie[/name]. To me [name]Eliza[/name] doesn’t have quite the same girly, pretty, feel to it, but it is sweet, vintage and spunky, which I do like. I’m not quite as fond of the nn’s for it though. I also worry a little about my friends thinking it’s “old” sounding or frumpy or something. What do you think? I know everyone says that if my husband and I like it, that’s all that really matters… But I want my friends and family to think it’s a pretty name too. But I do know I can’t please everybody.
[name]Emmeline[/name] is also pretty and girly, and I like that. It will probably have more pronunciation and spelling issues than the other two though. My hubby likes the [name]Emma[/name]- [name]Lynn[/name] or [name]Emma[/name]-[name]Line[/name] pronunciation, and I definitely prefer [name]Emma[/name]-[name]Line[/name]. I do worry that she would be lost in the crowd of [name]Emmas[/name], [name]Emmys[/name], Emilys. Also I just noticed the other day that if she gets called [name]Emma[/name], it doesn’t sound very good with our last name, Maylerr - too much mmmm.
[name]Love[/name] hearing from all of you - it helps me to work through it all in my mind! So thank you all for your comments!! And we have plenty of time, so a decision doesn’t need to be made right away anyway. I just can’t quite stewing over it, and looking on nb to see if the perfect name is maybe still out there somewhere!
[name]Eliza[/name] - Dislike [name]Eliza[/name] (have a niece named this) I find it very hard sounding, and almost feels nasal. WOuld much prefer [name]Ilysa[/name]
~[name]Emmeline[/name] - very cute. Has great possibility for nicknames
~[name]Coralie[/name] - Quite like coralie, which is weird, because I can’t stand [name]Cora[/name]/[name]Coral[/name] (people seem to forget that coral is sea life skeletons, nice thing to name your child after)
