What to do with my name lists?

Hey everyone!

I was hoping you could help me make sense of my name lists.

I’ve always felt ambivalent about having children - I sincerely don’t feel strongly about it one way or another at this stage of my life. If I do wind up having children, it’ll be 10-20 years from now, and as a lesbian, there’s a slim-to-none possibility for a surprise baby to interrupt those plans. So, I have trouble envisioning children as a tangible reality in my life, and I’m not sure how many kids I’d be interested in having if I did have them because of that. While I love thinking about baby names, I’ve found my uncertain feelings about having babies make it really hard to come up with more than one name!

When I envision my future, I generally picture a single daughter, and I have my first daughter’s name picked out, as well as my first son’s. These are more or less set in stone as they are all names which honor important people in my life, but beyond those, what do you think of the names on my lists, and what combinations would you make with those names? I intend to use two middle names for every child. Also – if you have suggestions you think would suit my style, feel free to offer them! I’d love to have some more inspirations.

(First daughter) [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
(First son) [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] / [name_m]David[/name_m]-[name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]

    • Thoughts on the hyphen for [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]? I would likely call him “[name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]” as a double first name regardless.

(Second daughter?) [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] [name_u]Dawn[/name_u] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
(Second son?) [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] ? ?

– [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is a possibility, but I also like [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] as a first name and can’t decide!

Other names I like for girls: [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_u]Allison[/name_u], [name_u]Brynn[/name_u], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

Other names I like for boys: [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Colin[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_m]Trevor[/name_m], [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]

I totally understand your feeling – for the longest time I wasn’t sure if I was going to have kids, but I have loved names for so long. I also just pictured having one daughter so always was trying to lock down that one perfect name.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is gorgeous! [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] gets my vote for first boy, it’s so pretty and the perfect match for [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].

For [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u], I think I would leave off the hyphen. Although I’m not sure if other people would know to call him [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] unless there is a hyphen?

Some combos:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_u]Riley[/name_u] [name_m]Declan[/name_m]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I totally get you. I’m not super into the idea of having children, yet I’m obsessed w/picking out names & agonize over whether or not my favorites fit together. Maybe I’ll use them for pets some day.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is very sweet. And [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is handsome. I love [name_m]David[/name_m] too, because it’s my late father’s name. I couldn’t use it though, because my brother in law & nephew are also [name_m]David[/name_m] and they have the same last name as my husband & I. Anyway, I digress. [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] as a double name is fine, but I would skip the hyphen. I just think that they look weird in any name. It’s not a letter, so I don’t understand why they’re in names sometimes.

[name_f]Alexa[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]-[name_f]Alexa[/name_f] & [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] are not my style, although [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] is lovely. I think [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] in this day in age is pretty associated w/the robot speaker too. I think that I’d personally would be more into [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] (prefer the former) nn [name_f]Alexa[/name_f]. That’s just my opinion.

[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]-Ooh, this is handsome. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is very cool. Sporty yet sort of soft too.

Other girls:

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]-So pretty. It’s sweet, kind & smart. It’s getting popular, but that may not bother you.

[name_u]Allison[/name_u]-This is not my favorite. It just seems a bit dated.

[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]-I don’t know about this. It’s kind of one of those names that seems too masculine for a girl but too feminine for a boy.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]-This is nice. I don’t love it, but it’s a good solid name. It’s super over done though.

[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]-I don’t care for this. It just reminds me of a cheerleader in the 90s.

[name_f]Cora[/name_f]-This is sweet. It has a sort of prairie feel to it. Which I like.

[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]-See [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f]-I really want to like this one, but just can’t get into it. It is different & has a nice imagery.

[name_f]Lily[/name_f]-Aw, I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It’s very lovable. It has such a pretty imagery & kind feel, but also a little bit of spunk.

[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]-Ooh, this is pretty & different. A bit exotic, but also short & sweet.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f]-Kind of fun. I’m kind of over it. I think just because I see it a lot on this site, but not really that much in real life.

[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]-This is a name that I should like, but can’t get into.

[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]-This is okay. I really like [name_u]Noel[/name_u] for a boy, but not into this one.

[name_f]Nora[/name_f]-Very lovely. Short, sweet, vintage & smart sounding.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]-This is cute. It has a very cheery feel.

[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]-This is nice. Sort of sassy, but I like it.

[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]-This is a good solid classic. I love the nns [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] & [name_f]Sally[/name_f] mainly.

[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]-I can’t get into this one. Not sure why.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f]-Very pretty. Getting popular.

Other boys:

[name_m]Archer[/name_m]-I like this. It’s sort of masculine like a guy who shoots a bow & arrow, but also a little nerdy. And [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is adorable.

[name_m]Asher[/name_m]-I like this too. Sort of an artsier version of [name_m]Archer[/name_m].

[name_m]Colin[/name_m]-This is handsome. I like it. Not super exciting.

[name_m]Declan[/name_m]-I have a nephew named this, & it’s really cute on him. He’s smart, funny, sporty & sassy. The name sort of says those things to me.

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]-I like this a lot. Very handsome. Kind of nerdy & smart, but also just sounds like a cool successful guy.

[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]-This is sweet. Very angelic really.

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]-I don’t love this one for some reason. It just reminds me of jester I think, because it sounds goofy. I know that’s ridiculous.

[name_m]Julian[/name_m]-I love this one. It’s on the top of my list. So smart, kind & handsome.

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]-This is nice. The nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m] is charming too.

[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]-This is okay. It doesn’t sparkle, but it’s a good name. I don’t care for [name_u]Nick[/name_u].

[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]-I love this. It’s handsome, rugged & sporty .

[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]-So glad to see this on a boy list. Very handsome.

[name_u]Riley[/name_u]-Same as above, but I wouldn’t use it since it’s so darn popular for girls.

[name_u]Robin[/name_u]-This is also unisex, but being that it’s not really popular for either it’d be fine on a boy. I kind of like it. It sounds gentle yet adventurous.

[name_u]Sage[/name_u]-This is not my style. Kind of used for girls a lot too.

[name_m]Trevor[/name_m]-This is fine. I don’t love it, but it’s not bad. You don’t hear it a ton.

[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]-I don’t know about this one. I feel like pronunciation is an issue.

[name_m]William[/name_m]-Good solid classic. I love [name_u]Billy[/name_u], & it would stand out from the sea of [name_m]Wills[/name_m].

[name_m]Zachary[/name_m]-Same as above. Great nns too in [name_m]Zac[/name_m], [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] or [name_u]Zooey[/name_u].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

“[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]-I don’t know about this. It’s kind of one of those names that seems too masculine for a girl but too feminine for a boy.”

(OP here) Okay, this cracks me up. I’m non-binary and this is my own name, which I chose for exactly this reason! I’m elated to hear I was successful in that regard even if that makes it less usable passing down to a potential child. Thanks for such thorough feedback on all the names!
