Names that will probably be over and dated in 10+ years that I like are:
ley trend:
[name]Tinsley[/name] (conversely I loathe [name]Kinzley[/name] and [name]Tenley[/name])
[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Paisley[/name]
Yaxley and [name]Kingsley[/name] for boys (this has more to do with my HP obsession)
[name]Aiden[/name] names:
[name]Aiden[/name]/[name]Aidan[/name]…yep that’s pretty much it
ton and -son trend:
[name]Afton[/name]…though I don’t see this as trendy, just happens to have the same ending.
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Carson[/name] (this belongs on a boy only [name]IMO[/name])
[name]Elton[/name]
[name]Crimson[/name] (see [name]Afton[/name])
[name]Boston[/name]
[name]Remington[/name]
[name]Lynn[/name] trend:
Let me just say, I despise this trend, but some legitimate names have the sound, so I will go with the root names.
[name]Kellen[/name] - boy only
[name]Aisling[/name]
[name]Dillon[/name]/[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]…not really part of the trend though
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] (see [name]Flynn[/name])
[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name] (see [name]Flynn[/name])
[name]Magdalen[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
I’ll probably be shunned for this, but I like both [name]Aidan[/name] and [name]Hayden[/name] (not [name]Jayden[/name], [name]Kaiden[/name], or any other derivatives though). I also like the way [name]Nevaeh[/name] sounds, even though its origin story is horribly trite.
I also really like [name]Aria[/name]/[name]Arya[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name], but sadly I think they are all beginning to fall firmly into the trendy camp, if they haven’t already.
It depends on our definition of trendy. I don’t think classic names that happen to be on trend are the same thing as trendy. So names I consider to be trendy but also like are:
[name]Aubree[/name] (even spelled that way!)
[name]Ava[/name]
[name]London[/name]
Boring Top 100 names I love
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Mia[/name]
[name]Lily[/name] (mostly because its a [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] name)
[name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name] (I don’t like [name]Charlie[/name] as a stand alone name for a girl though , and with butchered spelling on top of it as [name]Charley[/name] or [name]Charleigh[/name]. Eww)
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Brooke[/name]
[name]Isabelle[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Christian[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]
Trendy Names
[name]Aidan[/name] - I think its cute. I really don’t have an issue with this name. However, [name]Brayden[/name],[name]Jayden[/name], & [name]Kayden[/name] are a different story
[name]Grayson[/name] - Loved this name the first time I heard it. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Gray[/name] too.
[name]Mason[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name] nn [name]Beck[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Allison[/name]
[name]Ellie[/name] - as a nickname
[name]Makenna[/name] - This was my favorite name in middle school. Probably has to do with my little sister’s friend named [name]Makenna[/name] who looked like an angel. I still have a soft spot for this name even though its totally NMS anymore.
Maylie - Its the last name of a character in [name]Oliver[/name] Twist who I loved. I always liked this as a middle name for [name]Elizabeth[/name].
I have a soft spot for [name]Kayla[/name], [name]Hadley[/name], [name]Ashley[/name] and [name]Emerson[/name] for girls, and love [name]Hayden[/name] for a boy. I actually like [name]Mackenzie[/name] for a boy as well, although it’s probably too much of a girl’s name by now.
Looking through the previous posts - people listed quite a few names I wouldn’t consider trendy, such as [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name]. It’s interesting to see what other people’s definition of trendy is.
Oh, I’ve always loved [name]Jackson[/name] for a boy and [name]Addison[/name], [name]Kennedy[/name], and [name]Emma[/name] for a girl. But I will probably never use them.
I don’t know how we are defining trendy, but I’m going to include super popular classics in my list as well.
[name]Ava[/name] - I hate how much I love this name, but I can’t get over it’s lovely simplicity.
[name]Emma[/name] - No matter how popular it gets, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing this one. To make matter worse, [name]Emma[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is my favorite ‘[name]Emma[/name]’ combo.
[name]Tinsley[/name] - This name doesn’t fit my naming style at all, but I just love the idea of [name]Tinsley[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] for a [name]December[/name] baby for some reason.
[name]Piper[/name] - I hated this name for years, but then about four years ago I met the sweetest little girl with this name and I haven’t looked back since. This is actually one of three names that fall into the “trendy and less predictable nicknames I love” category. I like it as a nickname for [name]Penelope[/name].
[name]Harlow[/name] - This falls into the same category as [name]Piper[/name]; I love it as a nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name].
[name]Sadie[/name] - The final installment of the nickname saga, this one I would love to use as a nickname for [name]Susannah[/name].
Amélie - I don’t really see this name as trendy, but I recognize that it definitely comes up when parents are having the “we love [name]Emily[/name] but it’s so popular” discussion.
[name]Aisling[/name] - Again, I don’t see this name as trendy, but [name]Ashlyn[/name] certainly is and to most non-naming nerds it’s basically the same thing, so.
[name]Felicity[/name] - I love this name, but the alternative virtue name trend has become a big enough thing to take into account.
[name]Hudson[/name] - I love the raw, but stylish feel of this one.
[name]Harrison[/name] - Similar to how I feel about [name]Hudson[/name], but add the intelligence factor.
[name]Rowan[/name] - I loved this name way before it got trendy and actually planned to use it.
[name]Dawson[/name] - See [name]Rowan[/name].
[name]Fletcher[/name] - I plan to use this one, but it does fit into the trend standards right now.
[name]Beckett[/name] - See [name]Fletcher[/name].
[name]Wesley[/name] - I have loved this name since the day I started kindgarden and met a little [name]Wesley[/name]. This fits into the “softer” trend as well as falling into the [name]West[/name] and [name]Weston[/name] trend. I’d still use it.
On average, I tend to love trendy boy names for no real reason, I’m just drawn to them, whereas my girl names seem to be more concrete.
I love [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] (and [name]Hannah[/name], but I don’t think that one is necessarily trendy at the moment). They were some of the little girls in my first class when I started teaching preschool.
I like [name]Sophia[/name] because my brother once told me that if he ever got married and had kids, he wanted to name his daughter [name]Sophia[/name]. I have no idea how I managed to get him to engage in such a conversation with me. But, anyway, I have a soft spot for it because it’s my non-existent niece’s name. LOL!
I also love [name]Clementine[/name] (and [name]Apple[/name], but that’s completely the opposite of trendy, I think) just because I do.
I have loved [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Isla[/name], and [name]Gavin[/name] since way before they were trendy becuase they are my cousin’s names.
I also love [name]Aidan[/name], but hate all the other names derived from it. The first [name]Aidan[/name] I ever met was another of my first students.
[name]Piper[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] are mine. And [name]Ethan[/name], though I feel robbed of that one because it’s my dad’s name; my grandfather chose it 55 years before the trend, but now that I want to name my kids after my dad, it’s all trendy and trite. Rawr.
