What Was Your “Almost” Name?

Inspired by @audreymb’s thread!

What was the name(s) you almost got? And for bonus, what was the name(s) your sibling(s) almost got?

For me - They were close to naming me [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f], and I’m pretty sure other front runners were [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. Without using [name_f]Ann[/name_f] I’m pretty sure my name would’ve been [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

For my brother - They were quite close to naming him either [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] or [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]. One of these would’ve been my name if I was a boy. They also really liked [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] for him.

I am [name_f]Taylor[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] but I was almost [name_f]Alexis[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
They also threw around the name [name_f]Allison[/name_f]

And if I was a boy I think I was going to be [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]

That’s so cool!!

[name_f]My[/name_f] parents briefly discussed [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Dalida[/name_f], [name_f]Salomi[/name_f], [name_f]Angeliki[/name_f] nn [name_f]Angelika[/name_f] & Nikoletta nn [name_f]Nikol[/name_f]! Although, they weren’t quite “almost names” because they had settled on my actual name pretty comfortably by the time I was actually baptized!

I won’t share our first names but I’ll tell you what they considered for us:

me: [name_f]Madison[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Reese[/name_f] (I would have liked to be a Reese!)
sister 1: Peyton/Payton and [name_f]Brooke[/name_f]
sister 2: [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]
brother: [name_m]Mark[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Truman[/name_m]

I love this question

If I’d been AMAB, I’d have been named [name_m]Asa[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m].

Some other girl names my parents liked for me were [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (my mom’s fave), [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (my dad’s fave), [name_f]Malou[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], and [name_f]Tatum[/name_f].

For any curious, my actual name is [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! I really love my name!

Oh, and my sister! Her name is [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

Her name if she’d been AMAB was [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m].

Other girl names our parents considered for her were [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Plum[/name_f], and [name_f]Greer[/name_f].

I was almoat [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. If I was AMAB I would have been [name_m]Blake[/name_m] which is now my younger brother’s name.

If I was a boy, I would’ve been [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] or [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], and if my brother was a girl his full name would’ve been [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Yolanda[/name_f], which I think is sweet :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I was almost Lillian Katherine, but instead I am Mollie Katherine, they also briefly considered Madeline, but that was a last minute thought. If I were AMAB I would have been Robert Kenneth. I certainly prefer my name over Madeline (and of course Robert), but I wouldn’t mind being a Lillian!

Was almost [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]! Parents also considered [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Ashley[/name_f], and [name_f]Morgan[/name_f] for firsts. I ended up being [name_f]Madison[/name_f] (and I have a younger cousin named [name_f]Ashley[/name_f] so that name ended up in the family anyway).

If I had been AMAB, they had picked [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].

I was almost Emma-Kate, [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], or [name_m]John[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] sibling was almost [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] or [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]!

Lots of classics!

I was for sure going to be [name_f]Megan[/name_f]. They loved it and already had an -an theme going. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom’s second pick would have been [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. I’m so glad they didn’t go with [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] because I know so many (including my sister-in-law! That would have been weird!)

If I had been a boy, my dad had fought hard to get [name_m]Brendan[/name_m] as the top pick. It means “smelly hair,” so I’m also glad I wasn’t a boy!

If my parents had any boys we would have had a [name_m]Milo[/name_m] in the family!
[name_f]My[/name_f] older sister was going to be [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a first but got it as a middle because my parents decided she was too small for it
Her name is [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
I was going to be [name_f]Livia[/name_f] but they ended up deciding it would be confused too much with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and made that my name instead.
And little sis was always going to be [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] mum wanted an [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] as well!

[name_f]My[/name_f] name was [name_f]Andrea[/name_f] Joy… until I was born-they changed their mind after seeing me. If I was a boy, they had [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] picked out

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister, if she was a boy, they had [name_m]Ryan[/name_m] [name_m]Chase[/name_m] chosen.

Alternative names that they discussed for my two brothers but didn’t use were: [name_f]Ashley[/name_f], [name_m]Todd[/name_m], [name_m]Philip[/name_m],

I was almost a Junpier [name_f]Louise[/name_f]! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom also liked [name_f]Erica[/name_f], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], and [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], but [name_f]Juniper[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] was the full combo pick as my dad vetoed all the other ones. Ultimately though, they decided that they wanted to have [name_f]Louise[/name_f] in the first spot and also really wanted to include [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], an honour name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s name was decided on really quickly, but if he was AFAB he would have been an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]!

[name_f]My[/name_f] almost name was [name_f]Megan[/name_f], which was popular in my age group, as opposed to my given name that is pretty rare among my peers (it’s popular among kids now, and it was popular 80-100 years ago)! [name_f]My[/name_f] grandma also tried to push my mom to name me my middle name instead, which is a smoosh name that I don’t like (and find embarrassing even as a middle name haha), so I am glad that didn’t work out as a first name.

[name_f]My[/name_f] parents really liked [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] for my brother until they realized it didn’t work with their last name.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (though if my mum had been naming me alone, [name_f]Renee[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], Eloise)

I was almost a Lysanne but she heard of another little girl with my name and really loved it so it became my name. She was gonna go for Sarah-Maude but because of pronunciation issues she dropped [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] from the name and only kept the latter, which became my name. Had I been AMAB my name would have been Jean-Philippe. I like [name_m]Philippe[/name_m], though I don’t know if it would have suited me, but I’m glad I was AFAB because I really love my name.

I was almost Zlata or Alevtina! My grandma wanted me to be Dunya and they threw around Eudokia and Dina.

My brother could be Dmitry or Matvey but my mum ended up naming him after our father, Alexei. The name Dimitri is a stumbling block in our family since my grandma was thinking it for my uncle but my grandpa hated it lol!
