Apparently this didn’t post, but long story short, I was just wondering what made you ladies (or dad’s, your partners) suspect you were pregnant? I’ve heard stories of morning sickness, “off” feelings, and so on, but I am curious to hear other accounts, too. I’m currently not sure if I am pregnant. I’m over a week late (and while I’ve been irregular in the past, I’ve never been this late) and my husband chalks it up to stress because I just got done with my finals for my first, stressful semester of nursing school. I’m not sure about that, since I’ve found various ways of managing stress to where I don’t often feel overwhelmed as much. I’ve had cramping that just feels similar to menstrual cramping, but not like any I’ve had before. There’s other things I’m experiencing that are pretty much textbook of both situations. I’m going to try to get a test tomorrow but I’m likely not pregnant. Going through this just made me wonder what it was like for others when they first got that inkling something might be up .
I was temping, so my first clue was that my temps were staying high! Tested the day before my period was due and it was positive. But that isn’t very helpful for you. I had food aversions start almost immediately, a few days after my period was due, and pretty bad nausea started up between weeks 5 & 6 (1-2 weeks after my period was due) if I remember correctly. And shortly after that the exhaustion kicked in. Those were my early symptoms, but I know everyone’s different so hopefully you get a few more answers to see!
Stress is definitely something that can make you late. If you get a negative on your next test I’d say you’re probably not pregnant, but it could be worth calling your doctor to double-check with a blood test.
Sore boobs.
Nausea caused by coffee followed by super tender boobs (which I never have normally with PMS).
My first inclination that I was pregnant with my first child was actually that I had NO pms symptoms. Usually I would have sore boobs or bloating or other things going on, telling me that aunt flo was on her way but nothing ever happened and I was late, and then tested. I also kind of knew I was pregnant. I don’t know how, because I am not a very intuitive person haha but I just had this feeling. And we weren’t even trying, it came as a surprise. (So compared to the other posters I guess I was a little different, since mine was a lack of boob soreness hah)
Second time around, I knew my body a little bit more and I sneezed and felt a painful pull in my lower abdomen. I just knew it was round ligament pain and I took a pregnancy test the next day and got a positive. I think everyone is different, but couldn’t hurt to take a test and see! Good luck!
PS - I’m an [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] too! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your name
With my first pregnancy, I was dead tired! Wanted to go to bed at like 7pm and sleep all night. Would fall asleep on the couch every night because I had zero energy.
Second pregnancy, it was my missed period. I was trying to get pregnant at that point, so I was on the lookout for it. About a week after that I was feeling aversions to food and sickness/loss of appetite.
Persistent twinges like period pain but no period, also loss of appetite and some bloating. A bit later I got food aversions to pretty much EVERYTHING, but never any cravings! All symtoms passed by early 2nd trimester though.
With my pregnancy I just had a “off” feeling, my body felt different. My breasts felt and looked fuller and when I got on an airplane (have flown frequently since I was six months old) my stomach just didn’t set well with it, which had never occurred before.
As others have stated, stress can cause you to be severely late. I’ve gone up to 33 days (when stressed) without a period, so it’s very possible that stress is the cause of your lack of period.
Oh, also I was extremely tired, would nap when I got home from work, something that I usually wouldn’t do.
I had PMS type symptoms plus feeling very tired and like I was coming down with the flu. Though that just made me assume I was getting my period. Then the dog started flipping out, shadowing me everywhere, and sitting outside the closed bathroom door yowling.
THAT made me assume I had cancer. Dogs can smell cancer! Apparently they can also smell pregnancy. I never in a billion years thought I could be pregnant, this was after eleven years of infertility.
Interestingly, the dog remained my shadow through the entire pregnancy. Then I had the baby (a month ago now) and the poor dog sniffs at me cautiously and then backs away. He does not know what to make of this yet.
With my son, my husband had me take a pregnancy test after I was so worn out from just making breakfast that I had to sit down and rest. I also had tender breasts.
With this pregnancy I was feeling lightheaded and had mild headaches. My period was a day or two late. I also had these crazy strong cravings for clementines…
Extreme exhaustion.
@tarynkay funny you should say that! Our dogs were exactly the same - they’d follow me around and sniff me constantly, really awkward!! They’ve ditched me again now though, fickle things.
The first time, it was the sore nipples and breast tenderness. The second time, I thought I’d eaten too much guacamole and chocolate cupcakes at a party and threw up, then was really tired. The third time, I’m pretty sure I just knew. The fourth time, exhaustion out of nowhere. The fifth time, I tested out a trigger shot w/ dollar store tests then started getting very faint positives again.
A little weight gain and peeing a lot. I found out at 14 weeks. Haha Missing a period wasnt a red flag for me because my menstrual cycle has always been extremely irregular. I could go months without one.
Thanks for all your replies, ladies! It seems like there are some common themes here lol. As it is, I’m not pregnant. My period was a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] present kinda sad about that but oh well. I hate how menstrual symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms are so similar so often.
We were trying to conceive for a couple of months, and I was convinced I was getting my period because I felt some minor cramping and my lower back was sore. I’m pretty regular, and these symptoms appeared two days before I expected my period, so I even went as far as having a splash of [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]'s in my coffee that weekend. [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f] rolled around, my period was nowhere to be seen, and I tested positive the next day. Figures!
I had sore boobs. We kind of knew that it was a possibility but this was our 5th try and since the last 4 were unsuccessful we weren’t overly optimistic.
I remember putting on my bra and going to work and calling my wife crying becuase my boobs hurt. I guess you could have also said that I was super emotional. I’m not a crier normally.
She suggested I take a test and we were shocked. We had a positive. One we hadn’t seen before.
I didn’t have many symptoms until after I got my positive blood test at 16dpo. I had sore BBs and was bloated but that’s normal PMS symptoms for me. What caught my attention was that my cats wouldn’t leave me alone for a week straight (and still now!). During the day they napped next to me and at night slept on my stomach which is not normal for them and I have heard that pets know before we do so I was hopeful. A few days after the BFP I started getting really sleepy, hungry every few hours, and apparently quick to temper! Not all people get symptoms though so the only thing to do to be sure is test. Good luck!
I had extreme bloating, which was unusual for me before AF. My BB’s were also not sore at all, and before AF they would always get tender, so I could pretty much tell something was up!
