When naming your kiddos what were the names that got away? Was there a different name that you really wanted but lost the baby name battle to a spouse or family member? Did you have a name picked out for both sexes? What would he/she have been if the alternative chromosome had appeared in the biological mash-up?
Our eldest [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Christian[/name_m] would have been [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] if he had been a girl.
Our middle [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]: I put [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] on the list and hubby fell in love with it. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] really loved [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. I ended up outvoted. I really wanted [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. If he had been a girl we were leaning towards [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
The most recent addition: We haven’t settled for sure on a first/middle combo. We’re leaning toward Godric [name_m]Nickleby[/name_m] or [name_m]Crispin[/name_m] [name_u]Ellery[/name_u]. If he had been a girl though, he would have definitely been [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
Our other top choice for our daughter’s name was [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and if she’d been a boy she would’ve been [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. The other names that were considered for our son were [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. There wasn’t really any discussion of girl names with him once we found out he was a boy.
If [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] had been a girl he would have been [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f].
We were considering [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as alternative names. And we almost named him [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] but family members made rude comments about it so we had to decide between [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (my favourite) and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] (a name I mentioned that DH loved). We couldn’t decide so we ended up using both!
My daughter would almost certainly have been [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] if she’d been a boy. [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] (a fabulous honour name for us!), most likely.
We were a little lost for girls’ names while expecting [name_u]Kit[/name_u], so I was quite relieved that he was a boy! Names in the running would have been [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] (but my mum hates it!), [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f].
Most of these are still on the list for a potential third, but I think [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] is probably out (sob) because I’d prefer not to repeat initial sounds, even if the actual initial is different.
