@CattheBat13579 ’s thread on old name lists (Early name lists!) gave me an idea for a fun thought experiment - what would the names of your 3 children be if you had had them roughly two years apart and had used your favourite names/combos from around the year they were born?
For example, if I had had a child in 2019, 2021, and 2023…
2019: [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Otso[/name_m] or [name_f]Helmi[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Tove[/name_f]
2021: [name_m]Lukas[/name_m] [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] or [name_f]Erika[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
2023: [name_m]Artur[/name_m] [name_m]Onni[/name_m] or [name_f]Viveka[/name_f] [name_f]Minttu[/name_f]
(Feel free to come up with different age gaps/use different years - I picked these years for mine since they were the easiest for me to remember!)
I didn’t quite know which way to interpret the question so I did both!
my kids if I had named them in 2017, 2019, and 2021 ~
2017: [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] or [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] [name_m]Micah[/name_m]
2019: [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] or [name_m]Torin[/name_m] [name_m]Elliot[/name_m]
2021: [name_f]Fable[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Somerled[/name_m]
my kids if I named them using my lists from 2017, 2019, and 2021 (overlap names from my list today excluded) ~
2017: [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f] or [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] [name_m]Archer[/name_m]
2019: [name_m]Evren[/name_m] [name_f]Megara[/name_f] or [name_m]Kylian[/name_m] [name_m]Cove[/name_m]
2021: [name_f]Ember[/name_f] [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] or [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] [name_m]Valor[/name_m]
Shemariah [name_f]Renee[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphin[/name_f] [name_m]Dash[/name_m]
Sirenee [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_m]Otter[/name_m] [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Reade[/name_m] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_m]Elliot[/name_m] [name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_f]My[/name_f] name lists are pretty stable over time (and I’m probably a lot older than most of you!) so I’m doing it over 5 year increments:
1990: [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
1995: [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
2000: [name_m]Joel[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Sian[/name_f]
2005: [name_m]Joel[/name_m] [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Sian[/name_f]
2010*: [name_m]Joel[/name_m] 2 family middles and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] 2 family middles
2015**: [name_m]Linus[/name_m] 2 family middles and [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] 2 family middles
2020***: [name_m]Linus[/name_m] 2 family middles and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] 2 family middles
2025: haha, who knows!
the year I got married, so I knew if we had a son he would have DH’s family middle names (and a daughter would also have 2 middle names) - but I didn’t yet know what names he liked as we didn’t discuss it until I was pregnant (risky, I know!!)
** by 2015 we already had 2 kids, and my list had changed to reflect DH’s taste in names.
***by this time we had another 2 kids and are definitely not having any more, so any name lists are purely hypothetical
I knew the BtN top 10 names for each month thread would come in handy ! [name_f]My[/name_f] #1 firsts haven’t changed in a decade, so I’ll try and keep it interesting.
Also please appreciate that I had to look at signatures from when I was 16 so I’ve already made myself cringe on this fine (actually quite rainy) [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] morning
Time frames may be a little off but i know these were my top choices at one point
2015 (or earlier) - [name_m]Jude[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
2016 - [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] “Charley”
2018 - [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_f]Sage[/name_f] or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] “Daisy”
2020 - [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] “Kit” or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Francis[/name_m] “Daisy”
I also know that [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] [name_m]Foster[/name_m] or [name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] was my top name at one point for a boy, but can’t remember when
Yes, I know! I didn’t want to scare him off by asking about names too soon. And also didn’t want the fact that he might have awful taste in names make me want to break up with him (as it turns out, his taste in names is not too bad).
He did know I’m a namenerd, though - his first niece was born while we were dating, so of course I was all over what her name might be.
