What would you think if you meet a boy named Aubrey or August?

I just wanted to know what other people would think.

[name_u]August[/name_u] - I think strong, masculine, handsome and I especially like the nn option of [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. The only [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] I know is a little girl so I don’t really have strong ideas on that name.

I think both are cool. [name_u]August[/name_u] is my favorite though

To me, both of these names have a feminine quality to them. I know they are boy’s names but for whatever reason I think girl every time I hear them and have to remind myself otherwise.

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is a feminine name for me, so I can’t truly imagine a boy named [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u].
[name_u]August[/name_u] is adorable! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though, I prefer [name_m]Augustin[/name_m]/o, [name_u]August[/name_u] is fine too.

[name_u]August[/name_u] - “wow those parents have great style!” I am really warming up to [name_u]August[/name_u] and the nn’s it has.

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] - “slightly feminine for a boy.” I only know 1 person with this name and it’s a girl, so I’m biased to this being a feminine name. However, I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f] so this may be a factor here.

I do prefer [name_u]August[/name_u] out of the two

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u]. It’s on my short list. I know several girls named [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] and [name_f]IMO[/name_f] it is very feminine.

i love the name august, sounds brave and noble.

For me [name_u]August[/name_u] is masculine and [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is feminine.

I love [name_u]August[/name_u] for a boy, and for the record where I live (Denmark) it’s purely masculine. I know two boys named [name_u]August[/name_u]

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] sounds feminine to me, mostly because I associate the name with [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] Plaza.

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] sounds feminine to me. [name_u]August[/name_u]…masculine.

I agree completely with previous post. The only reason I’m not considering [name_u]August[/name_u] more for my incoming arrivals is that I don’t like the nicknames (Auggie, [name_u]Gus[/name_u]).

I would be thrilled. I’m not a big fan of [name_u]August[/name_u], but I love [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] for a boy.

Both are gorgeous for a little boy!! I’d love to meet a little [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] or [name_u]August[/name_u]! [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] seems so masculine to me, because [name_m]Drake[/name_m], the Canadian rapper, is practically an icon among my age group, and he used to be an actor on [name_f]Canada[/name_f]'s most popular teen drama, Degrassi. His birth name is [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_m]Graham[/name_m], and he was credited as [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] until he started rapping. I think of him when I hear the name, so it’s very much a male name in my eyes.

I would be jealous haha!

I love [name_u]August[/name_u] and I like [name_u]Aubry[/name_u] with this spelling  It’s a boy name to me.

Honestly, I really like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] on a boy rather than a girl.
[name_u]August[/name_u] is a handsome name, but I personally feel I wouldn’t use it because it’s trending upward.

I can’t see why [name_u]August[/name_u] should be controversial. To me it’s like [name_u]Harper[/name_u] or [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] or [name_u]Noel[/name_u] - not a gendered name at all, despite maybe being skewed in some places. To my ears it’s an ideal unisex name, a really nice pairing of feminine (au) and masculine (gust) sounds. I think it sounds thoughtful, dignified and gentle.

I really like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] too, but since it’s straight-up a feminine variant of an existing masculine name (Alberich/Albericht) it may be harder to convince people it belongs on a boy. I mean, it’d be an excellent unisex name, but with gender politics being what they are it’s much more likely people will accept “boyish” names on girls than vice-versa :\

In any case I find both of those names are adorable for any gender! But I would worry that he’d cop more flack for “[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]”, from people who are jerks about that sort of thing.

I love [name_u]August[/name_u]. It is definitely a great boy name!
I am not a fan of [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] and it’s feminine to me.

I had [name_u]August[/name_u] on my list for a boy for a long time (full combo: [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]), but FI doesn’t care for it, so I took it off. I think [name_u]August[/name_u] sounds very sweet and the nicknames Auggie or [name_u]Gus[/name_u] are just too cute (in my opinion). I think of this name as being firmly for a boy, but the only [name_u]August[/name_u] I’ve met is a little girl named [name_u]August[/name_u]. It still didn’t sway my feelings towards the name and I would still name a boy [name_u]August[/name_u].

As for [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], I would say this is strictly a “girl’s” name now. Regardless of whether it started as a boy’s name or not, the fact is is that it is now dominated by girls. Being the number 20th name last year means that if I met a boy named [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], I would pity him. Maybe that sounds harsh and maybe my feelings are wrong, but that is my honest opinion. I wouldn’t want to have [name_u]Mason[/name_u] or [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] or [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] as my name because it is so strongly associated with boys. Plus, [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] is also so close to [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], that it really just feels too feminine to me.

I’d be thrilled to meet a little boy named [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]! It’s very classic and would be very fresh.

[name_u]August[/name_u] is a name I’d love, but I think if a baby born in the next year or so was named this I might think the parents trendily chose it after A Fault In Our Stars. And that kid might even be [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], I never read it. Either way I think it’s a very handsome and good name
